if it could be explained that information i need and where i can get it from in XP, i also need to log in then i access it from xp.

Apr 22, 2010I have installed Fedora 11 and Fedora 8 on two differnt machines and I am doing an rdesktop to connect to a Windows 2003 server. The connectiviy is pretty fast when I try and connect the same from fedora 8 machine but it very slow when I try and connect it from fedora 11 system. I have tried using TS client but even then it is pretty slow. I have also tried using an Nvidia 8400 graphic card and Nvidia 9600 on Fedora11 OS.
I have also tried using Fedora12 OS as well. Is there any thing specific I can check on Fedora11? Or do I need to do some thing on my windows 2003 machine?

The command line options or any on-line documentation I was able to find, omits this entirely. Using the Windows Remote Desktop Client (RDP6) you can configure Terminal Services Gateway connections from the Advanced Tab. I suspect that rdesktop, gnome-rdp, tsclient et el can't do this yet as they support up to RDP5. Currently I am using a WinXP VM to accomplish this, but would like to do this natively on my Linux box.

from Qemu manager, if network card is using User Networking, it's a NAT and I can see that Guest Ubuntu has an ip address 10.0.2.15 and is able to access the internet. However, as Guest ubuntu is running server so I want to do use Tap networking and I assue with Tap, the Guest ubuntu will get an ip address which is in the same subnet as host machine by dhcp. so from Qemu Manager 7.0, I changed Network card to be:
NE2000PCI
Vlan Number =0
VLAN Type: Tap Networking
Mac address: tap0's mac address from host
TAP Network Adpator: Tap0
Note that tap0 was created by openvpn. and then fired Ubuntu guest, ifconfig shows no ip address on eth0 (which has the same mac address as Tap0) so the guest Ubuntu has no ip address and can't access public.

Jan 12, 2009I have an IBM Bladecenter HS21 with 3 blade servers. All 3 blade servers were initially installed with RedHat Linux 4. I then installed ixMOS on one of the blade servers, and Mandriva Linux was also installed (over RedHat) automatically along with ixMOS.
Now, I have some network problems. The other 2 servers with RedHat can ping each other, but it appears that the server with ixMOS/Mandriva Linux is isolated, that is, I can't ping the other 2 servers from it, and I can't ping it from the other 2 servers.
Does anyone have any ideas on what is wrong and how I can solve this problem? One more thing, my installation of Mandriva Linux has no GUI, so I have to do everything using the command line interface.

Jul 11, 2011I am trying to get a Linux (Slackware 13.37) working in a Windows networking environment. The IT support for this organisation does not extend to Linux support, so I'm limited in what help I can get for this.
I'm trying to get to the point where I can get to the internet to download what I need on this Linux machine.
The situation is this (*fictitious addresses used) -My Linux machine uses a fixed IP address (10.100.150.21)
My Windows machine uses a DHCP assigned IP address (10.100.150.213)Both Linux and Windows machine are configured to access the gateway server (10.100.150.1)So, I can ping the Linux machine from the Windows machine and vice-versa.I can ping the gateway machine from the Windows machine.I can browse Windows Shares on the network via SMB from the Linux machine.I CANNOT ping the gateway machine from the Linux machine with the Destination Host Unreachable message being the error message.
For actual internet access I need to access a proxy server but since the Linux machine can't even ping the gateway server, it fails to ping the proxy.Now, I have been told the gateway is a HW based router and for Windows machine they use some software for authentication to connect to the network. This software isn't available for Linux, so that's why I've been told to use a fixed IP address.My experience of networking is pretty basic and most of the Linux setup is done via running Slackware's setup program.

Windows:
LAN IP: 192.168.10.4
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.10.1
Linux:
eth0:0 IP: 192.168.10.1
eth0:1 IP: 192.168.10.3
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
route add -host 192.168.10.4 gw 192.168.10.1
I can ping the Linux server from my Windows, but cannot do so from Linux to Windows.

Dec 18, 2010I am testing with Suse Linux Enterprise Server 10 in a VMWare environment. I've installed two SLES10 servers, named sles1 and sles2. I can't get the two servers to communicate, even a simple ping won't work. The "Network Adapter" in VMWare is set to "bridged", a setting which has worked fine when installing WinXP in VMWare and connecting to the Internet. I have configured the Network Settings as follows:
SLES1:
-Statically assigned IP Address
-IP-address: 192.168.0.20
-Subnet: 255.255.255.0 (/24)
-Hostname: sles1
Hostname/DNS tab:
-Hostname: sles1
-Domain Name: local
-Name server: blank
Routing tab:
-Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1 (= my router connected to the Internet)
SLES2: same as sles1, with IP 192.168.0.22 and Hostname sles2
With these network settings, the two servers seem totally unable to communciate.
-When I ping sles2 from sles1, I always get the error message: connect: Network is unreachable
-Whatever way I ping, either ping sles2, ping sles2.local, ping 192.168.0.22, whatever, the error message is always the same.
-Even if I ping sles1 from sles1 (= "pinging myself"), I get the same error message.
-Only if I ping localhost, I get a proper ping result.

Dec 16, 2010In my office i have a network of 172.16.31.0 and a squid proxy server running, all other systems have windows XP and one system has centos. On centos system i have three lan cards and i want to test some things on it. So i assigned another IP on it of range 192.168.7.0/24 and same range on another windows system. And all the systems connected through a same network switch.
Unable to ping between Centos and Windows system. If i ping from one centos to windows system with the series of 172.16.31.0 then it replies very well but same thing is not happening in other 192.168.7.0/24 IP series.

Dec 3, 2010My Windows machine can ping Ubuntu by name, but Ubuntu can only ping the Windows machine by using it's IP address. This was working fine in both directions until I purged Samba. After purging Samba, I couldn't ping in either direction unless I used the IP address. I did some reading and found that Samba provides NetBIOS functionality that allows the machines to resolve host names without a DNS. Since I'm not running a local DNS, I decided to reinstall Samba. Unfortunately, I've not been able to restore it to full working condition. I don't want to use hosts files as all the IP addresses are assigned automatically by DHCP. I want to be able to access the Windows machine by name.

Ubuntu :: Switching From Windows Server 2003 To 11.04
Jun 1, 2011I am switching from Windows Server 2003 to Ubuntu 11.04.
These are two different machines, the Windows Server has 2 2TB Hard drives in it, that are setup as a RAID 1. The data on the drives is irreplaceable. I've scoured the internet for about two weeks, trying to find the best solution. It seems like everyone else had a slightly different setup, or the was no solution.
The Ubuntu Server has a 40GB SSD in it. I just installed a 2TB Hard drive (same make and model of the two in the Windows Server) and made the filesystem for it ext3.
First thing I did was just throw the 2 2TB Hard Drives in the new server, and tried to set them up as a software RAID. After it prompt me to erase the drives, I strayed away from that idea.
My end goal is having Ubuntu machine completely replace the Windows machine, so I'll need to setup Samba (which I'm sure I can figure that part out).
How can I get all the data off the 2TB Hard Drives that are using NTFS onto a RAID in the Ubuntu machine with an ext3 filesystem?
General :: Can't Connect To Windows Server 2003 R2
Feb 28, 20119.10 Ubuntu (Karmic) I could never connect from home using rdesktop, grdp, krdc, etc to the Windows Server 2003 R2 at the office: "Connection reset by peer" or the client simply remains "connecting to...", depending on the client used. Some days I work from home as if I'm sitting in front of my PC at the office.
So I used to boot in Win XP to run mstsc. But the XP partition doesn't boot anymore, no way to fix it, so I need to try the Ubuntu rdp clients.
I even installed a Win XP in a VM (VirtualBox), but now mstsc doesn't connect, it ends due to timeout (as if the Windos Server "knows" I'm not a windows family client)

With high probability host 10.128.128.1 is a firewall or some router with packet filtering mechanism; but I don't understand how it can be possible to implement this kind of solution, with what kind of software or hardware? I also tried a nmap scan to my Windows machine but it returns me scan results from another host(the firewall or the router I suppose):

Fedora Installation :: Dual Boot 8 And Windows 2003?
Sep 10, 2009I am attending college and I am starting my first Linux class tomorrow. I am going to be learning Fedora 8 (why they don't upgrade, is beyond me) anyways, I also have a third Server 2003 class. We have our own hard drives that we put in the school computers. (80gb) But here is the problem, I know normally your suppose to install Windows first and then Fedora second and you do not have a dual boot problem.
However my Server 2003 class was suppose to be on Monday (which was labor day) so I didn't have school. I am going to be installing Fedora tomorrow first thing, then on this next Monday I will be installing Server 2003 on the same hard drive, but Windows will be going on second. So my question is, how would I fix the bootloader so I can still dual boot Fedora and Windows without having to reinstall Fedora again?
