I have set up a 5.5 installation on a Virtual box VM. The Virtualbox (not for the VM) network preferences have DHCP Server disabled and IPV address and the network mask I believe are valid for my home network. My VM is up and running and it has gotten an IP address from my home router and everything seems fine. From any machine in my house I can ssh into my centos installation. I went ahead and started up the httpd service and the website is up. IOW, I can see it from my centos box - when I navigate to http://localhost However, I cannot see it from any other machine on the net. The IP address of the centos bos is 192.168.0.141. From the centos I can do a ttp://192.168.0.141 and see the Apache 2 test Page. I can see that from anywhere else. Although I can ssh to that machine.

I am running Jaunty 9.0.4. I have go through a proxy to get out to the net. It was working. Sometime yesterday it was unable to resolve the proxy server. Can't even ping it. Other computers can. I even switch cables to no avail. What could block the proxy server? I can't even ping google.com Was it something I installed through add/remove software? Has anyone seen something like this before and even better has a solution or can offer a way to troubleshoot this? I can ping myself and the default gateway server.

I set up an apache webserver on a redhat enterprise server 6 last week. It works fine on the localhost. However, the webpage can't be accessed from the other computer. I didn't modify anything related to 'allow, deny' in httpd.conf. The only thing I've done is I added a rule in iptables to approve the access from a computer with a specific IP address. Since I am quite new to iptables, I don't know if there is anything wrong with my setting.
Even I stop iptables, the problem is still there. I don't know if my setting of iptables is correct. Or, there is anything else that I should do?

I'm trying to set up a server for an NPO who connects to the Internet through an internal proxy (Websense). I can't access the Internet unless through the proxy.
Since it's a server I did not install a GUI so I'm wondering how to connect the new server to said proxy server. I have the IP address, port number and username-password for the proxy server. The new server has a static IP address and is ready too go!

I'm trying to setup a Centos 5.6 Squid Proxy Server with Content Filtering & Antivirus Scanning Incoming HTTP Traffic from the Internet
I then proceeded to setup an configure the Proxy Server, i was able to test and confirm that Squid and Dansguardian Content Filter is working, however i dont know if Clamav is scanning HTTP traffic before it hits the client/server. Is there a way i can check if the Antivirus scanning is working.. is there some log file or real world test i can i can do to confirm that Clamav is scanning incoming traffic or even blocking potential viruses ??
Anyone who has squid proxy server with Clamav configured and its working can share there settings/setup with me and how they tested it ??

I am setting up a CentOS box as a NAT firewall that needs to also send mail. It needs to send this mail using an outside provider's SMTP. The provider requires SMTP over SSL. None of the machines inside the NAT will ever send mail except via the provider's SMTP nor will they ever receive mail except to local clients via the provider's IMAP servers.
So for the example the machine is TESTMACHINE. There is one internet facing ethernet port connected to a DSL modem via pppoe.
The SMTP it needs to send mail via is mail.host.net which requires SMTP over SSL (port 465) and username/password authentication.
The sendmail documentation is quite confusing on how to get this simple setup operating, so an example showing the appropriate changes to sendmail.mc and other require config files.

what I am trying to do is use an external transparent proxy for only one of the hosts on my internal network. For example, for an internal host of 192.168.1.8, I want to send all internet requests for ANY port to a proxy server out in the internet at 238.34.232.7 / port: 8080. All other hosts would use the internet without using any proxy server. Is IPTables the way to set this up or is there an easier option?

I can ping a host on my LAN successfully, but I cannot ping [URL]... for example. I have disabled the firewall and set http_proxy and can browse the internet with "Use system proxy settings" checked in Firefox. I am unable to update with yum either, but I am not sure if this is a side effect or not. I have run a trace on my ip address as I am browsing the internet and I can see the sites I am visiting on our web appliance. However, if I try to ping or update no requests are hitting the proxy so I don't think that is the issue.

I have searched for this quite a bit but my lack of knowledge of IPTables makes me doubt whether I have found a solution or not. I have very light experience with IPTables as well.So I thought I'd ask here.Basically, what I am trying to do is use an external transparent proxy for only one of the hosts on my internal network. For example, for an internal host of 192.168.1.8, I want to send all internet requests for ANY port to a proxy server out in the internet at 238.34.232.7 / port: 8080. I've completed the installation of a CentOS server.Running the setup utility as root, ive set up a static IP and installed apache. Now this works ok. I can type in the servers IP address from my browser/putty/winSCP and access the server within the intranet. The problem is that i would also like to access the server using its hostname, e.g. http://centos or whatever Currently i cannot do it. I've searched the forums, edited the /etc/sysconfig/network and /etc/hosts to no avail no matter what i do i cannot access it. i've disabled some services so im not sure if this is the fault.

I can't seem to get the X server to allow access from clients on other hosts. (I know, not exactly a network problem, but. I made the change in /usr/share/gdm/defaults.conf to be : DisallowTCP=false
and this worked on another CentOS system, but it hasn't fixed it on this one. What other things could prevent other clients from connecting to the X server? From the local host, I get :
Warning: Tried to connect to session manager, Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed although the client DOES actually create the window and work! So, maybe this message is a clue.
From the remote host, I get : Error: Can't open display: 10.10.1.20:0.0 Which is not terribly informative. Is there a log somewhere which details why a connect request was denied? The files in /var/log/gdm are not very informative.

I've installed centos 5 on an old computer with success and it works great.I can access the web server hosted on the centos server from any computer on the wireless and wired local network. I can also use ssh (putty) and nx client from any computer on the local network (wired and wireless) to access the centos server. On the wireless router I've configured a port forwarding to the wireless network interface on the centos server. I can access the centos server from the outside (internet) through this port forwarding both through http and ssh or nx client.MY problem is that I can't access the centos server from the internet through the wired network interface. Any attempt to view a web page or login with ssh or the nx client will timeout.
