I'm using Ubuntu 9.04...How do i setup a broadband connection that DOES NOT require a username and password i tried pppoeconf but it wont let me proceed without entering something in the username and password fields. on XP i jus plug in my Ethernet cable and it works but it doest on ubuntu.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have set up an ubuntu server running PPTP Server for VPN connections. I can successfully connect from a laptop within the LAN, but taking that same machine to an internet connection and trying to connect back in does not work. The only difference is that when I connect from within the network, I am obviously using the server's LAN (non-routable) address, and when I am connecting from outside the network (from Verizon Business DSL ), I am using the Comcast connection's static IP address.
I have a static IP address on a Comcast Business Class internet connection. Router is set to forward pptp and GRE ports.
Works:
VPN Server <- Laptop
iPhone -> Internet -> Router -> VPN Server
Does not work:
Laptop -> Internet -> Router -> VPN Server
Here is the weird thing. I have an iPhone that connects flawlessly every time through it's AT&T data connection. The laptop however, gets to "verifying username and password", and then returns error 619. It seems that there is an issue only when going through the router using the PPTP client built into MS windows.
I tried installing lubuntu 'over' ubuntu, but am now locked out. Basically, the login screen loads, I've tried entering my username and password, but it doesn't work. I'm not really sure of my username as Ubuntu would automatically fill it in for me. But lubuntu isn't auto-loading my username, so I've been trying to enter all types of variations. I am 100% of my password though
I tried getting help at lubuntu's chat, but that's been kind of hard since there aren't that many people responding. The lubuntu people had me go into recovery mode (2.6.38-8 recovery) and so that would go smoothly. But when the screen of the options of resume, clean, dpkg, failsafex, etc, I cannot move the selector down. So basically, the orange selector is stuck at resume. Whenever I press the down key, the computer runs some lines, and I cannot go back to the list of options. The list is still visible, but can't select any of the options.
If I press the 'end' button, that executes something (probably the last option in the list), and I shut down the pc when it did that. The other arrow keys do nothing. The tab button manages to move the selector from the list to 'Ok' and 'Cancel.' But I cannot move the selector down.. TL;DR: I need to either get into recovery mode, or find a way to get my exact username lubuntu thinks it is.

The workgroup set in samba is FILE-SHARING, so I login with the following: FILE-SHARINGmyuser password and that's when I get the unknown username or bad password thing.
I had a look to /etc/samba/smb/conf security = user is uncommented the shared folder appears at the end of the config file In despair, I've also created an identical user on win 7 and the linux box. I've been into the security Local Policies of windows 7 set NTLM to LM and NTLM (instead of NTLMv2) Here's my smb.conf in case it's needed.

I have a strange problem with my mobile broadband connection. I hope I am not the only one (so it will be fixed), but since I haven't found any others having the same problem yet, I am not so confident.I started using mobile broadband, via a HUAWEI E1762 HSPA USB stick since Jaunty. I've had the same problem in jaunty as I do now in Karmic. Although in Karmic, i've had additional problems (that problem i've found listed as a known bug).The problem is that when I get my mobile broadband to connect, it is sometimes, somehow, not fully connected. Symptoms are as follows:
1. panel icon shows connected and good strength (good)
2. skype connects, and I can chat and voip (good)
3. ping does not work (bad)

We finally got internet in our apartment in China, but my husband was the only one home when the guy came to set it up (on his windows machine).
He connects by plugging in, then clicking a desktop icon labeled "Broadband Connection" where a box pops up with a username, a password box, and some buttons, one of which says "connect".

On the WinXP machine: Connection Properties state that this is a PPPoE connection, with TCP/IP, QoS, and Deterministic Network Enhancer all checked. Under the security tab, unsecured passwords are allowed.
i recently installed ubuntu 10.04 in my laptop. everything is working fine except for my mobile broadband connection. i use a huawei ec1260 USB 3g modem to connect to the net. the OS detects the modem fine and the network manger applet prompts me to set up the connection as well i.e entering the username, password, number to be dialled etc. however when i actually try to dial the connection the applet icon flashes for a long while and a notification pops up saying connection disconnected. has anyone come across same kind of problem and solutions, if any.
Earlier i used the same modem in in karmic i was able to connect to net and even now i am able to connect using the modem in windows 7 as well

View 3 Replies View RelatedI use a Huawei E 1550 mobile connection, which worked fine in Ubuntu 9.10.I've got it working okay in 10.04, having installed modeswitch. However, it will not automatically reconnect if it drops out. I can force a reconnection, only if I remove the dongle and then plug it in again. Although it shows in network manager, clicking on the list entry for the dongle, just produces a disconnected dialogue message. The only way to get it to reconnect is to remove the dongle and plug it in again.I know there have been a few posts about getting mobile dongles to work in 10.04, but I can't see any solutions to this little issue yet.

I also issued the command sudo iwlist ttyUSB0 scan it gives this as output ttyUSB0 does not support scanning

SET failed on device ttyUSB): no such device
How can one find out the essid value of a broandband network? How can i connect to the internet from command line for a broadband network?

View 2 Replies View Relatedi downloaded ubuntu 10.10 for learning purpose. All goes well, i installed it successfully. The problem which i face is that when i connected my mobile broadband device, ubuntu detects it and i have succesfully made the connection. But the network Manager is showing "disable" Mobile Broadband connection. I tried to put a check on Enable Mobile Broadband but can't check it. So i can't access Internet in ubuntu. I think some offline package installation should be there to resolve the problem, or some console commands. I tried to use the (wvdial) which i use at Backtrack. but i think ubuntu did not have.

My friend switch to Ubuntu (he has a 9.10) and want to set up the mobile broadband. He has a usb modem stick Hyundai mb-810. We tried everything - from the usb-modeswitch to wvdial and nothing works. We have read millions of pages of tutorials and forums but still - nothing works. He is now thinking to go to Windoze XP and leaving the Linux community though he is impressed with the Ubuntu.
