Fedora Hardware :: Either Working WiFi Or Sound Card (Not Both)

Jan 20, 2011

With my Compaq CQ62 it seems I can either have a distro provide a working wifi or a working soundcard but not both. I would love to have Linux working properly. Wireless internet works great in Windows 7. The ethernet works perfectly when I plug directly into my router, but pressing the wireless button will not change the light on it from orange to white or do anything else. Yet a simple distro like crunchbang or kubuntu seems to make the wireless work fine.

They just cant make my soundcard work. Being that there is at least some sort of a protocol for installing wireless drivers, I figured I would go with the distro that gives me SOUND since installing a sound driver seems unheard of or impossible. I have a realtek wireless network card in my laptop that Fedora, one of the biggest names in Linux, seems oblivious to even recognize. When I click on the network icon and go to Manage Connections, the Wireless tab is greyed out and cannot be clicked on.

Software :: Creative Sound Card 5.1 Not Working In Fedora 10

Mar 7, 2009

i have a creative sound card installed in my system. But it is not working. What I got is a mono sound output. I also check pulse audio volume control but only mono sound it displayed in the play back tab. i checked sound & volume control in
system-> preferences -> hardware ->sound
system-> preferences -> hardware ->volume control

But no avail it can only play analog front speaker, neither IEC958 centre nor left/right speakers.Actually in this,(F-10) there is no options to check a 5.1 surround sound(which is available in windows explicitly). Can anyone please help me to configure the sound card for a 5.1 surround system?

Software :: Fedora Core 5 PC Sound Card Not Working?

I have a PC with Fedora Core 5, and only command line available for this PC. I try to use the ALSA sample program to playback a simple sine wave, and I can't get any sound from the audio out. I suspect that the sound card is set as mute. My question is how to unmute the sound card, which is integrated with the VIA82xx mother board. The following is some of the info about the PC and sound card.

Code:
[root@mu153097 cards]# lsmod | grep snd

Debian Hardware :: WiFi Card Not Working

Dec 6, 2014

I have some problems with my WiFi card I'm configuring for Debian Wheezy. I've used it in other computers successfully (It's a USB device), but this box doesn't seem to be able to recognize it or use it properly.

I've identified the card using Code: Select alllsusb with the output Code: Select allBus 001 Device 002: ID 7392:7811 Edimax Technology Co., Ltd EW-7811Un 802.11n Wireless Adapter [Realtek RTL8188CUS]

I've used the Wheezy docs to download the firmware necessary and it apparently is supposed to run fine with this firmware, but nothing is working. There was mention to a GitHub repository of a fixed version of the driver in question, which didn't work either.

Ubuntu Networking :: Edimax WiFi Card Not Working With Karmic

Jan 7, 2010

Finally took the plunge and upgraded my ubuntu studio to karmic from jaunty. I seem to be experiencing a problem many have, being that my wifi card (edimax) which worked on my previous distro is now not working at all. I've done a lot of research and found the problem seems to mainly be with broadcom cards, and have tried a number of things relating to those that have worked for others, with no luck.

My problem seems to be not that the drivers wont activate or anything like that, my problem is that under hardware drivers nothing appears at all. I have no drivers present, where most people are talking of 3. i have not found anyone else with this problem. My problem is compounded in addition by not being about to use a wire connection at all.

Ubuntu Networking :: Atheros 9k WiFi Card Not Working After Suspend?

Jun 25, 2010

I am currently using Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. Although it has worked fine for the past couple of weeks, I have recently encountered a problem with my wireless card. It is an Atheros AR928X card on a Toshiba satellite U405D-S2874 model laptop. Recently, I attempted to put the computer into suspend mode for the first time. The computer failed to wake up, and I performed a hard reboot. After this, everything seems to work except for the wireless card. I am now unable to connect to any wireless network with my laptop, and the wireless manager doesn't seem to be working either.

Everything runs perfectly - when my laptop is connected with the power cord. But when I go battery the wireless disconnects after a few minutes. It then asks for the wpa password, searches for the router, asks again, and so on indefinitely, until I reboot and it all replays once more.

Ubuntu Networking :: Intel WiMAX/WiFi Link 6050 Wireless Card Not Working?

Dec 14, 2010

I'm dual booting windows 7 64 bit and Ubuntu 10.1 64 bit on my Dell Inspiron 11z with an embedded WiMAX/WiFi Link 6050 series wireless card made from Intel. I only use it for wifi, not 3g or wimax. I installed the latest driver from intellinuxwireless.org, iwlwifi-6050-ucode-41.28.5.1, but it still doesn't seem to work. I ran these terminal commands from another thread:

cd Desktop/wlwifi-6050-ucode-9.201.4.1
sudo cp iwlwifi-6050-4.ucode /lib/firmware
sudo chmod 644 /lib/firmware/iwlwifi*

[code]....

After running "sudo rmmod -f iwlagn sudo modprobe iwlagn", I get this read out for my wireless card.

*-network DISABLED
description: Wireless interface
product: WiMAX/WiFi Link 6050 Series
vendor: Intel Corporation

[code]....

In the ubuntu help section it tells me to flip a manual wifi switch to enable it, but pressing my windows wifi button, F2, doesn't appear to do anything while in ubuntu. The only experience I have working with linux is typing some terminal commands on my android phone to root it.

Hardware :: Sound Card Not Working On Debian?

Feb 13, 2010

I am having some trouble with my sound card, for what I understanded is not detected on my kernel, my kernel is the following: 2.6.26-2-686. I got a Debian Lenny Stable with Xfce4, my sound card comes incorporate with my motherboard that is an Asus P4S800D-X and my sound card is a SoundMaX.

I am sure that the kernel doesn't recognize it because when I put on a terminal: lspci | grep Audio, I don't get nothing. Also when I go on my Xfce task menu to Settings >> Mixer Settings, I just get a default mixer setting with no audio channels or nothing. I got all my alsa drivers intalled too.because I tried to go to www.asus.com homepage (Motherboard Manufacture) and I cannot find the driver of the sound card for linux.Where I can get this driver? Or can I update my kernel with Lenny stable version? if so, let me know what version and what repository to get it. Because before I had a Debian Squeeze testing with the Kernel 2.6.30 and worked fine.

Fedora Hardware :: Conflict Between Sound Card And Tv Card?

Dec 30, 2009

My soundcard (a Creative X-Fi Xtreme Music) is running with the unix-driver offered by Creative. But after a restart (without switching power off) I have to switch the sound device in xmms from ALSA to OSS. Also my tv card (an hybrid card from Hauppauge, WIN-TV HVR-1300) is only getting a signal after a restart, before there is no signal found. To get sound while watching tv I'm using one of the following lines, it seems to be random wich of them is working without error:

> sox -r 48000 -c 2 -t ossdsp /dev/dsp1 -t ossdsp /dev/dsp
> sox -r 48000 -c 2 -t ossdsp /dev/dsp -t ossdsp /dev/dsp1

So it looks like a problem in loading the modules in correct order, but I'm not sure. Perhaps there is also a problem with my nvidia graphic card (see list below for the kind of card), that I have installed with the unix-drivers from nvidia's webpage. To solve this problem I'm now searching since september, when I got my new computer, including:

-graphics: Lead896 D3 X GTX260 Extreme+
-CPU: Intel Core2Duo E8500, 3166 MHz, FSB 775
-mainboard: Asus P5Q-E, P45 F G SA

Dual boot is generally hopeless on Macs. So this is a single boot setup and I am quite happy with it. I have two major issues right now:1. There's something wrong with the sound system. I get the following error message when I clickon the small x to the right of Volume Control (on the upper right corner of my screen). See attached screen shot.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Sound Is Not Working (Both Internal Card And XFi)

Sep 25, 2010

I've spent the last couple hours trying to figure out how to get my SoundBlaster XFi card working, but somehow in the process seem to have now also broken my on-board sound which when I first installed did work. I have no idea how as I hardly touched anything. Both cards are recognized in Sound preferences, sound is not muted there nor in Alsamixer. But neither produce any sound at all now.

Searching around the forums it seems that as of now my XFi should, kind of, work out of the box, but I've had no such luck.I'd really like any advice possible on getting my XFi with headphones to work in 10.04, but if this can't be done I'd atleast like to find a way to fully reset my sound setting so my on-board will work without having to wipe this partition and reinstall - there Must be an easier solution than that.

However, when I use another Linux distro PARDUS that uses KDE, the card works perfectly. With KUBUNTU i don't get any chance either. I think it is a kernel problem but both distros have the same kernels. So, this is not a KDE vs GNOME problem either as KUBUNTU did not work it either.

Fedora Hardware :: F13 - No Sound From VIA VTS1708S Sound Card?

Jun 12, 2010

My PC has the ASUS P7H55-M SI motherboard with the audio chipset VIA VT1708S. Under Fedora 13 (64-bit) I have no sound although the audio chipset seems to be properly recognised and supported by the OS.

I used the alsmixer application and I set the volume for all channels, including PCM to their maximum value but still I get no sound. When the OS boots I hear a "click" sound coming from the audio chipset when it is initialised by the kernel but then the sound stops and I hear nothing.

Note that I do not have this problem with Ubuntu 10.04 but I have the same issue with openSUSE 11.3 Milestone 7. My guess is that F13 and openSUSE 11.3 having newer kernel/alsa software versions exhibit this problem due to some bug introduced to the code.

Here is some extra information:

OpenSUSE Hardware :: USB 2.0 External Sound Card (working On MacOSX)?

Dec 18, 2010

I'd like to buy an USB 2.0 external sound card It's not a multichannel-sorround, It would be just a 2-channel-stereo sound card that converts the USB signal in others digital audio signals (electric and/or optical) so that someone can connect their Hi-Fi or DVDplayer to their computers.

So... In particular, it would be a digital USB-to-SPDIF 24bit/96KHz and USB-to-AESEBU interface. I can tell you that similar USB 1.1 (16bit/48KHz) devices work all with Linux also. I'm not that sure about USB 2.0 interfaces. I know that ALSA drivers go up to 24bit/96KHz and that for sure some of these devices work with Linux also, but I can't tell anything about many others. These interfaces work with MacOSX, no-driver-required. QUESTION: is it true that every audio interface that works on MacOSX without requiring any additional driver, will work also on Linux for sure? I was told so once, by a friend of mine.
