I have a question, regarding the use of two internet connection on the same server. So, the thing is like this: The server will have 3 network adapters: connected to a DSL modem (on this adapter I have one of the internet connections, a PPPoE connection. It's only purpose is to share the internet connection to all LAN users using SNAT.
eth1 ----> the other internet connection, a much more expensive one actually, used for hosting a website, a domain name server, and a qmail server. eth2 ----> LAN connection So what I want is to make eth1 the "default gateway" (for outgoing mail, DNS requests, etc) and, as I said, use the ppp0 connection on eth0 only for internet sharing in LAN.
My question is (since I'l configure this server in about one week), does anybody have any suggestions regarding how could I accomplish this? I mean, I'm affraid that ppp0 will also try to use the default gateway from the other internet connection and vice-versa. Now, I know I can use the ip route/ip rule commands, but for many reasons I'd like to keep it simple and not use them.
Here is my problem, which I think also posted here already but cant find enough solution. I successfully access the web server to its localhost using its IP address (Sample: http://192.168.1.100/index.php), but when I try to access it on other terminal which are also connected to the same network, I cant view it. But it seems that they can both communicate to each other when I ping it respectively both sides.
how can i set something to view the page outside the local server.
I'm setting up a network for a school. The network has 11 client computers (windows xp) and a server (fedora 10) All I need to do is have a share for all the children to use. (this I did by adding each client to the workgroup specified on samba then I just map the drive). The issue turns out to be that I have over 300 users. The users don't always use the same computer therefore I need the users to be registered on all 11 clients. How can I do this? I have been searching and I've not gotten anywhere. How can I add the computers to a domain instead of a workgroup? What can I use?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI can't get the samba server to work on a Fedora 13 system. First of all, I've activated the "smb" service. After this, since I couldn't find any samba configuration tool in Gnome, I switched to KDE and launched Menu - Computer - System Settings - Advanced - Samba. I typed in my workgroup and netbios name and added a share (2nd tab). Then I added my user name to the blank list "samba users" (4th tab), which wasn't very effective, because this list is blank again when I leave (OK) and reopen this config tool.
From a windows machine, I can't access this Fedora system. Netbios doesn't work (ping netbios name - ...could not find name...) and trying \IP in the explorer shows an error message "Windows cannot find...".
Btw firewall and Selinux are both deactivated.
When I open Dolphin on the Fedora locally and type "smb://localhost" it *does* show a logn window, but no matter what I type in there, it just shows this login windows again after clicking OK.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have (seemingly regretfully) finally upgraded my Fedora Core 7 linux machine that has served me so well for the past decade. One of the final pieces to put in place was my Openvpn config (which was running flawlessly on my FC7) which I cannot get to work.
Here are my steps.
1. Disabled SELinux
2. Added the following entry in my iptables: (although I've stopped iptables to help troubleshoot)
-A INPUT -i tap0 -j ACCEPT
-A INPUT -i br0 -j ACCEPT
-A FORWARD -i br0 -j ACCEPT
3. Yum installed openvpn and bridge-utils (btw I'm using bridging)
4. Configured my bridge-start script as such:
#!/bin/bash
# Set up Ethernet bridge on Linux
# Requires: bridge-utils
# Define Bridge Interface
br="br0" .....
5. Configured my openvpn server conf as such:
proto tcp-server
port 5990
dev tap0 .....
When I execute my bridge-start script it creates the br0 and tap0 then all connectivity vanishes (I can only ping my gateway 10.0.0.50) - internet and any other addresses time out.

View 8 Replies View RelatedHow often are dns queries sent? Assume I want to connect to a ssh server, will I send one dns-query in order to do that or do I send multiple during my connection? What if I request web-pages, do I send a query only when I enter a site or will I send queries every time I visit a new page on that site?
I'm asking since I'm considering getting an account at dyn.com (the standard account for $30/yr) and it comes with 600 000 queries per month (which is way more than I expect to get but knowing exactly what it means is always good).
We have a mac book connected to our network. It can surf the web and even get into our network files. However, these network files are on linux, and finding the open files (not password protected) is fine. But we need the mac book to get into the protected files to edit our media. When we connect to the linux server, there is a pop-up asking for a login. We enter the correct credentials that work for everyone else to get into our protected files, but these credentials don't work... There is a message that pops up: "This operation cannot be completed because the original file '<file_name_here>' cannot be found." But it found the other open files...? what do we do to get this to work? The macbook is 'os x' and the linux server is 'fedora 10'

*Solved* I have been reading the following guide on how to use the VNC programs and a GUI to connect to my main machine from my laptop via my LAN and router:
[URL]
This allows me to control the server remotely, and run applications on the server remotely, with the GUI output being shown on my laptop, which is really neat I had Eclipse + PDT running on my server and had to stop it and start a new instance remotely from the laptop via VNC viewer, as Eclipse said the workspace I wanted to use was already in use.
So starting the VNC server on the main machine does not allow me to access the programs that are already running on the main machine under the native X server. However I can now do PHP debugging remotely using Eclipse + PDT now, and all the PHP source code is on the server machine. That's OK, but I would like to do more than that. I want to be able to connect to the native X server on my main machine, and control all the applications running on the main machine remotely from my laptop, without having to shut them down and restart them again via a VNC viewer.
Is there some sort of remote control program I can use to allow me to connect to the running X server on my main machine from my laptop, and control those applications remotely please, so the desktop layout on the main machine's screen is mirrored on the laptop screen?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been using Fedora since almost 1 week by now, and I'm really impressed by its features but there is one very small problem that I face everyday.At the first place, I had setup a profile settings for Network so all my static IP, Hosts, DNS servers were all configured in that profile.Now I had filled in something in the Primary DNS Server and then I had saved it. The internet works after that but when I reboot, that Primary DNS server gets deleted. I have to type it all the time and then click on save and then start using the internet again.

Lets say I name my samba server ABC and set it up via system-config-samba utils. I follow basic steps and fill out everything according to most guides that are available for fedora.
