I'm pinging a certain website and what happens is that each time the ping process freezes for an unknown reason ca. 10-15 sec then it starts to ping. Note that only this particular domain causes this hanging and Ctrl-c seems to have no effect at all! The domain is niteco. So far I've tried several independent linux systems all with the same result however other non-linux systems ping normally.

I am using ubuntu 9.10 and I still cannot figure out this thing. I work behind a proxy managed by my university. Now, I cannot ping the other users on my network although they can ping me. Not to mention, I also cannot ping [URL]... It says : ping: unknown host [URL]... But I can ping the proxy server.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Ubuntu 10.10. Something really weird keeps happening to me, a total of 3 times so far, and given how it occurs. When I click I all of a sudden get a black screen with some output about states and then the gnome login is displayed.
Here is how it happened:
1) I clicked on the close button on Google Chrome.
2) I double clicked on the Skype icon in the panel.
3) I clicked on a dialog in a Windows 7 Virtual Box guest.
why this is occurring? I doubt you will so how the heck do I go about diagnosing something like this?
I just booted up ubuntu, and instead of the beautiful default appearance, my task bar and some of the icons in my launcher (home folder, workplace switcher) look like they were thrown back 5 or 6 years in time.

And I insert SSLcertificate and private.key file into "default-ssl" file in "sites-available" folder. But when I call the website, SSL certificate show "Could not verify this certificate for unknown reason".

The server was working fine since November �09 until a month or 2 ago.Sometimes (almost daily now) the machine hangs and shows the front "health led" blinking red.The services do not respond,locally i can see the login screen but when attempt to logon it freezes (the same happens with ssh).2 weeks ago i open a case in HP and the support sugest that the problem is in the X server (??), since then the system starts in runlevel 3 but the problem continues. A week ago open another case, on Tuesday make a BIOS upgrade but today in the morning the server hangs again.
There�s no strange messages in log files but... after the Tuesday hungs (before the upgrade) i can see the error msg below (thanks to the change to console mode):

But if I gave ping -I eth1 <IP> then I can ping.

I can ping IP addresses of sites, say 209.85.229.99 (google.com), but I cannot ping google.com, nor browse it. Same thing for every alphabetic address and hence in practice I have no internet on my laptop. In windows, I'd just flush DNS but I don't know what to do in Ubuntu. I am using WICD.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just downloaded Backtrack 5 and installed it. Had some problems getting the right driver for my gpu but eventually managed to install the right one. At first I thought the problem could be because I didn't have the right gpu driver but its still there. My backtrack freezes when I do anything,for instance I open firefox and browse the internet I can't open command promp or even close firefox with the close butten (alt-F4 does work). I can do 1 thing but then it just freezes and I can only do the thing I was doing. I can still browse but can't do anything else. I have the 64-bit gnome edition.
system specs are:

intel core I7 930 (2.80GHz)
nvidia geforce gtx 470
western digital caviar black 1TB
It happened to me twice- once while browsing with chrome and once with firefox..the system just freezes, the mouse still move but nothing else is clickable.
ctrl+alt+backspace doesnt work,ctrl+alt+f1 does work-takes me to the command line even.
How to find the reason for the freezing? and what to do next?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI made a fresh install of Kubuntu 9.10 with KDE 4.3 last week and everything went well. Everything except the web browsers. Whenever I browsing sites the browser will freeze up. Sometimes if I wait long enough, I'll be back up and running. However, sometimes I have to force quit. I have noticed that in some instances the freezing will be isolated to one tab, while other tab are in fine working condition. what could cause this and how to make it stop? I say Web Browsers because I use Chrome and Firefox and it happens to both of them.

Every time after I resume from suspend, firefox freezes up to 7sec at "flashed" sites.That is very annoying. If I disable the adobe flash plugin, it is smooth without flash. If I restart my laptop, everything goes flawlessly. It did not if I restart the X service.This also affects the chromium on both the smooth scroll and the freezing at flashed sites. Additional information: Opensuse11.4 32-bit KDE.

I've bought a HP Photosmart printer, HP Photosmart wireless e-All-in-One printer - B110a and i've got a problem installing it properly. I'm using Debian 6.0 Squeeze. When i connect the printer, Debian doesn't recognize my printer as the Photosmart B109 printer for unknown reason. When i go to the site of HP and search for a driver, it directs me to this site:I've downloaded that latest hplip file as a .run file and installed it. My printer is recognized proparly, but when i try to print a colored image, it comes out black/white. Something is not crrect. Does anyone recognize this problem with this type HP printer?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI dual boot XP and FC14 and have 2 routers. I can connect and ping one of these routers when I'm in FC and I have an IP address I just can't load any websites. When I connect to the other router (my main router) it works fine. When I boot into XP and connect to the problem router I can load pages fine. It's only when I'm on FC14 and connect to the problem router that I can't load pages even though I have an IP and can ping around.

I looked at 'top' for a while and didn't see anything obvious, but there's always stuff running there that I don't necessarily know about. Looking at 'processes' using 'system monitor', I found a zombie'd process called 'runbackschedule'. Could this be it?
If not, how would I find out what the issue is?
Maybe someone can shed some light on this process that is running. It is using my CPU about 100% since there are 2 instances of it running with about 50% used by each.abc_sieve_2.10_i686-pc-linux-gnuI've never noticed it running before and don't think I've installed anything except updates.
View 6 Replies View RelatedEver since I installed Ubuntu Natty, from time to time, for no particular reason, the entire computer screen freezes, and I am forced to hold the power button on my laptop to restart things with a hard reset. I cannot explain why it happens.
Such an issue never occurred in any of the past installations and versions of Ubuntu. This is a fresh installation of Natty by the way.
Also, I can currently be running a lot or nothing and it does this. Thus, it does not matter what I am actually doing (ie, what programs I might be running).
It has occurred about 10 times since I freshly installed Natty 6 days ago.
I was transferring data from one computer to my laptop and crash error came up on my laptop...

What could be the problem? Is it serious issue? I have been having security issues with Windows and are those issues begun once again? I have been under targeted attack since 2005.
I have two machines on this network, one running Ubuntu and the other running Fedora.
When I'm using the Wireless network on the Ubuntu machine, I cannot ping the Fedora machine. Everything else works. I can browse the net fine.
If I switch over to the Wired Network then I can ping the other machine.
I don't understand why ping doesn't work only over the Wireless. I can ping the router so I'm guessing it's getting blocked by the router but I didn't block ICMP traffic.
I tried asking on IRC and they ran out of ideas too to find out where the problem is.
