Fedora :: Mouse Freezes After About 5 Minutes Into Session
Aug 13, 2009After logging into fedora about 5 minutes into the session everything except the mouse freezes on the screen. There is nothing that works. A hard reboot is done and the same thing happens after logging in. The system use to work fine up until a few weeks ago. I suspect it may be an yum update.

For no apparent reason, the server will just be powered off.I've looked in the dmesg log and /var/log/messages file, but that doesnt show anything, except the "syslogd 1.4.1: restart." message after booting it up again, and hours in advance of the crash a "suhosin" alert message.

Jul 1, 2011I have just installed (after a series of crashes during the install) Fedora 15. I also have Ubuntu Natty installed and use it primarily but I wanted to reach out and try new distros.I've wanted to try Fedora and finally got enough nerve to try. Installing it crashed for no apparent reason several times.ehow it installed and booted right to Fedora.However, when finally figuring out how to run the updates, I began to have the same problem.(Someone elsewhere suggested trying to update through command line--which I did finally though I had a few crashes doing this).
Now I am logging in and then it will just inadvertently crash. I could be in firefox, or using terminal, etc. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to why this is happening and I feel frustrated. I really want to test out Fedora (it looks so nice!) but can't manage to stay afloat more than a few minutes. I might also mention that this does not happen in Ubuntu at all so I can't account for the issues. I have much to learn but I feel a bit intimidated by Fedora because it's so new to me.

After I figured out that the automatic wired network "Auto eth0" was gone from the network manager, it was easy to manually add it back. But why did it disappear in the first place?

May 20, 2011I woke up this morning to a message saying I have low disk space in /home. My /home partition is 150 GB, but I had only 4 kB left. I promptly rebooted, which helped, but I still only have 40 GB available. Now, I use only 26 GB, so where the rest is, I don't know. In the disk usage analyzer, a lot of the space was not accounted for, as shown in the image.
Here is the output from df -h and du

Ubuntu :: Disk Checks During Boot Without Any Apparent Reason
May 21, 2011I've been an Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit user for one year. My Ubuntu distro is installed on an ext2 file system. Occasionally, I experience disk checks during boot without any system freeze or power loss.Sometimes, once reboot, the system works fine but Evolution Mail requests a new account, as if it was used for the very first time.Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Apr 8, 2011Network stopped working about a month ago. I installed ubuntu again, and network worked fine, and I turned off updates to keep things stable. Now network stopped working again. No changes had been made to it.I put in the ubuntu install cd, and network works fine off of it. I did not reinstall again. ifconfig shows eth0 with correct ip address, but 0 RX/TX packets.
Cant ping anything from it, and cant ping to it from other computers.I'd really rather not reinstall yet again, any ideas on how I should go about diagnosing this problem?Ubuntu 2.6.35-28-generic-pae #49-Ubuntu SMP Tue Mar 1 14:58:06 UTC 2011 i686 GNU/Linux
Networking :: Sudden Network Troubles On Debian With No Apparent Reason?
Apr 7, 2011I just want to see if anyone else is having problems connecting to networks, wifi or wired. For some reason, I can see both wired and wireless networks available but when I try to connect, it times out. I updated a couple of days ago and suddenly started having problems today. Anyone else having the same problem?I have only tried the router and repeater I have to connect to. My other computers are working just fine. One is actually running as a Debian server with no GUI (which I do not update as often). The other is a Mac.

May 7, 2009I am attempting to use a serial trackball in CentOS 5.3 and have run out of ideas. The mouse is connected to COM2 (/dev/ttyS1). I have tried to configure it through xorg.conf using every protocol I could find including "auto" and tried the same again using "inputattach". The mouse communicates at 1200 baud, so I've tried using stty to set the port to that baud rate and still no luck. Is there a test tool that can be used to see if the serial connection is functioning? If not, are there any other ideas?

Feb 21, 2011the Squeeze uprgade I also lost the middle mouse functionaly of my Logitech Marble Mouse. I do not remember how I set it up to be honest. I am not sure if it was by default middle was mouse was "pressing 2 buttons on eachside at the same time" or I did set up manually using Xmod or similar tool. I might have even set up in the hal settings. The reason I do not remember exactly is that I used multiple tuts and places to set this up long time ago and now that the functionality is gone I am kind of confused about how to go ahead about it.

May 27, 2011I just downloaded Backtrack 5 and installed it. Had some problems getting the right driver for my gpu but eventually managed to install the right one. At first I thought the problem could be because I didn't have the right gpu driver but its still there. My backtrack freezes when I do anything,for instance I open firefox and browse the internet I can't open command promp or even close firefox with the close butten (alt-F4 does work). I can do 1 thing but then it just freezes and I can only do the thing I was doing. I can still browse but can't do anything else. I have the 64-bit gnome edition.

Jun 9, 2011It happened to me twice- once while browsing with chrome and once with firefox..the system just freezes, the mouse still move but nothing else is clickable.
ctrl+alt+backspace doesnt work,ctrl+alt+f1 does work-takes me to the command line even.
How to find the reason for the freezing? and what to do next?

Jan 27, 2010I'm pinging a certain website and what happens is that each time the ping process freezes for an unknown reason ca. 10-15 sec then it starts to ping. Note that only this particular domain causes this hanging and Ctrl-c seems to have no effect at all! The domain is niteco. So far I've tried several independent linux systems all with the same result however other non-linux systems ping normally.

Aug 2, 2010I have just installed ubuntu on my second laptop. However, this one is giving me some grief. After several minutes, it completely locks up. No mouse, keyboard, anything. Just frozen solid. I had some issues installing it, and got around them by checking something like "nolacpi" and "noacpi" with the live cd, but now I don't know how to re enable those options. I'm quite computer savvy, but am still learning how linux works. For refrence, this is the system specs:

First I get the infamous message: Could not detect stabilization, waiting 10 seconds. at the beginning of the booting process. then after I initiate startx, I use gnome, all works fine and only for few minutes and the system freezes. At first the mouse freezes, then after 30 seconds or so, the mouse's cursor can move but clicks are ineffective, not even Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, or Ctrl+Alt+Del. I have to do hard reset.

Sep 22, 2010i had previously installed Ubuntu 9.10 (dual booting with Windows XP) whichgave me errors of "Hard Disk Bad Sectors" and then would freeze my PC leaving me with no other option than Re-Booting..[ignoring the error as a BUG) so on advice of other ubuntu users.i tried Ubuntu10.04.
On installing Ubuntu 10.04 it showing the same problem as that before.(freezing few minutes after the login page) and again dual booted with Windows XP.
i don't suspect a hard ware problem because my Windows XP works perfectly fine with the Same hard ware.
Hard ware specifications
1 GB RAM
160 GB hard disk
3 Ghz Processor
PS:its the 8th time i have installed Ubuntu ..so its really frustrating .

May 15, 2011I've been unable to resolve this problem for the past weeks and have come as far as I can trying to fix it on my own. I have a fresh install of 11.04 on a Shuttle ST20G5 with a Radeon Xpress 200g chipset. After 5-10 minutes of usage in X, it freezes solid (no response to alt-sysreq) and displays a white screen (sometimes with a pattern). I believe it's a kernel issue.
Things I've tried but still resulted in crashes:
- Switching to VESA graphics
- Running failsafe / Recovery Console X
- Downgrading X server to 2.09
- Running latest X server via ppa (at least, I think I did this. Maybe I didn't)
- Upgrading kernel to 2.6.39-0 via ppa
- Running the live cd
I get no warnings or errors of note in xsession-errors or kern.log
I have not been able to catch the error or obtain any troubleshooting info. When it crashes, it just crashes.

Apr 15, 2010So my Dell latitude E6400 running fedora 12 (2.6.32.11-99.fc12.i686.PAE) is usually connected to a big screen (1920x1200).
Now each time I boot, X becomes unresponsive shortly before or after login for a couple of minutes, and then goes back to normal. This happens both with and without connection to the big screen.
The error messages associated to this seem to be like this, my /var/log/Xorg.0.log is cluttered with them :

I normally start my computer in the morning, walk off for some tea, and come back when X is functioning, but when I'm in a hurry it's pretty, or very, annoying ... drinking tea / coffee to wait for a computer to start is something people did in the 90s, it shouldn't be default behaviour in 2010 ...

Oct 13, 2010This is kind of cross post from the 10.10 beta forum, but since that thread went by without a solution, forum (and thread) are locked and this problem still exists, I'll try again.
When I reboot my machine, it seems to go pretty quickly. However looking at the log it seems that most everything is running after about 8.6 seconds, and then USB starts loading up. The first log entry regarding USB comes at 32 seconds, second one at 62 seconds. The keyboard starts working at 84 seconds and the mouse at 166 seconds.
Note, this same system was running 9.10, 10.4 and various other distros I tested without such problems...
I've removed all hubs, everything is directly connected to the computer. code...
Ubuntu :: Screen / Everything Freezes From Time To Time For No Reason In Natty?
May 4, 2011Ever since I installed Ubuntu Natty, from time to time, for no particular reason, the entire computer screen freezes, and I am forced to hold the power button on my laptop to restart things with a hard reset. I cannot explain why it happens.
Such an issue never occurred in any of the past installations and versions of Ubuntu. This is a fresh installation of Natty by the way.
Also, I can currently be running a lot or nothing and it does this. Thus, it does not matter what I am actually doing (ie, what programs I might be running).
It has occurred about 10 times since I freshly installed Natty 6 days ago.

Oct 14, 2010just want to report "Right Mouse Click Freeze" on Ubuntu 10.10. When I click on anything with my right mouse button to open options menu it freezes and does not open menu. Sometimes when I shake my mouse left/right a bit it opens that menu, but this does not work always. It seems like xserver issue, but I'm not sure since I'm not expert in linux yet. It's very annoying issue that I would like to resolve asap.

Jan 20, 2011I have a Foxconn with Intel 330 processor, 1 gig RAM, and 80 gig hard drive. Unit will freeze when using the mouse at infrequent intervals. I had Edubuntu 8.10 installed and have now installed 10-10 Ubuntu to rule out software issues. During the new install, the video would stop after a period of time, and could return to operation by moving the mouse. The same mouse,keyboard, and monitor are being used on three other computer boxes using a KVM switch. The problem is unique to this Foxconn box. An identical Foxconn box runs normal and is set up as a server
After the unit freezes, I can use the alt-ctr-sysrq RES to eliminate the GUI. This tells me that the Linux system is still running.
What segment of the system log should I be examining? Is this an IRQ issue?
