View 5 Replies View RelatedI LOVE Ubuntu, but the sketchiness with WIFI in Ubuntu is really frustrating (not that it's Ubuntu or GNU/Linux's fault necessarily). I'm trying to find a good WIFI card replacement for my girlfriend's MSI Wind u90, but seems both the Intel 3945abg and the Intel 4965agn - the cards usually recommended for that model - seem to be spotty at best in all recent versions of Ubuntu including the last long-term release. Has anyone had success with a Broadcom 1020 (in any laptop but especially in a netbook)?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAny opinions on which of the PCMCIA wireless cards work the best out of the box? I currently have a USB wireless adapter but want to get rid of it and use my PCI slot on the laptop. I am currently running lucid. I would rather not have to mess around with NDISWRAPPER again, something that has a native linux driver would be great.

View 5 Replies View RelatedAny easy to install/configure network/server monitoring tool? PLease note I'm looking for something of little lightweight here (Not something like zenoss) But I'd still like to get performance graphs and event notifying alerts. Also note this is to monitor less than 50 servers and perhaps a firewall or 2.

View 9 Replies View RelatedNew Fedora 15 user today and I noticed that FireFox 4.0.1 looks like it was written in the late 90's. I'm using KDE 4. See pic: What's causing this? Is it possible to do something about it? BTW, I installed Gnome 3 and KDE 4. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried a lot of web browsers, but I can't find a good one.
I want a web browser that:
- can open most webpages and show all content including javascript, flash and whatever (unlike elinks which is text-only)
- is controllable entirely by keyboard and preferably with vim-like controls. (unlike firefox, google chrome).
- works out of the box (unlike uzbl)
- is fast
- is bugfree (unlike firefox and uzbl)
- is configurable
So please recommend a good web browser and tell me what features would make a web browser good.
I heard that Simple Backup 0.10.4 has bugs that doesn't allow it to create backups or replace them well.
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.
Is it true?
If so, what do you advise me to run in my Server to create regular backups of my shared folders with Win7 machines? I want it to make full backups not incremental ones if possible. and it has to be free, because i have to use it in a small enterprise.
i am using xubuntu and love it so far! fast and stable, but i have a question. i am not a big gamer, just a few casual games, i am also not an office document user. i do not use openoffice.org or libreoffice, i just have my basic text editor. i do not do any web developing or anything. basically i reply to and send a few emails a day. i use gmail for that, not an email program, i use facebook a few times a day. i watch a few tv shows online. i videos occasionally, and i post on these forums. but my computer feels empty, is there any good programs i can just play around with. conky was one, its alright, a little confusing though. is there just any fun programs to play with. i don't care what they are, work processors, or web browsers, just some oddball programs or something? heck i don't know, i am just bored on my pc and looking for some entertainment.
View 3 Replies View RelatedBeen playing around with the new Ubuntu 11.4 and really don't like it. The previous versions were much better. How long will Ubuntu 10.10 be supported and what would be a good alternative to eventually switch to?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI plan to design a general framework for structural optimization.I already have a pre-processor module that I can call in batch mode, a Finite Elements Solver, and a heuristic non gradient based optimizer that can process the outputs of the solver, so as to adjust some input variables in the pre-processing phase ( geometry and topological definitions of my structure ).
I would like to parse the huge ammout of data that is released by the solver ( an ascii text file) to filter out some reauired results in some specific points ( maximum allowable deflections or stresses within my structure ) since it is this infoemation that will be fed to the optimizer engine so as to feedback on the quality of the changes made in the topological definition. The only way to do this in batch mode is with awk, or with sed..
I'm making a simple file server for a small business, running OpenSUSE with raid 1 HDD. Can anyone suggest a good motherboard? I don't really care if it has the raid controllers on it, but if not, a good raid controller?

View 4 Replies View RelatedBecause a lot of them either refuse to install because of incompatibility for 64-bit Operating systems or they just don't work very well for recording video games, such as TF2.I found one, but it appears to have been abandoned for some reason, what a shame. It's GLC, but I can't figure out how to record WINE apps. I can't figure out what to record. The wiki tells me to record a "wine-pthread" but it says that it can't be executed nor is there such a file that exists on my computer. Are there any more options other than GLC? Or could I get some help with it?

I want some sort of pop-up or message display for things like appointments, due dates, etc. Maybe send a notice to email. Preferably something that will go out about two weeks or more.
Doesn't have to be fancy or even gui based.
I have used a patched Cairo in 11.2 from Packman and the fonts were excellent. Now I upgraded to 11.3 and installed freetype from subpixel repo. While I have good fonts in Qt now, in Gnome still they are bad.
