General :: Voice To Command & Text/command To Voice Programs?

Mar 14, 2011

Does anyone know of a commercial program that will run on openSUSE?I need something that is fairly user friendly, identifies individual voices, and does not require Wine. The machine is to be completely controlled by voice and would be programmed to issue vocals in response to vocal requests for what is in the various databases and I/O software, such as motion control and other sensor subsystems. In other words, a program that lends itself to AI robotics.I do not have the time to develop CMSphinx, and I am willing to pay. I have been on a few sites but they are cryptic as far as the technicals, which I do not fully understand anyway.

OpenSUSE :: Skype Alternative - Client With Good Video And Voice Quality

Jun 16, 2010

I am looking for a good alternative to Skype. I would like to have video and voice calls with a family member who uses MS XP but would like to avoid Skype if possible. Does anyone know of a good client with good video and voice quality that will work on both platforms. I'd like it to use open standards so at least we can use different OS specific clients if one is not available for both platforms. Googling hasn't yielded much and some of the results refer to really old (~2006) articles or apps. I hope I'm not doomed to using Skype. I've resisted so long with using SIP clients for voice but am stumped now that I want to include video.

Ubuntu :: Looking For Text To Voice Progam

Mar 20, 2011

I'm using Ubuntu 10. 04 LTS sometimes and have become spoiled with a text to voice reader that can read anything I highlight or almost anything when using Win XP - It is nice to sit back and listen to what some one wrote, such as an email or a document while doing other things.I am fairly certain that there is a program or three that will do the job on Ubuntu but I just can't locate it as of today.

Fedora :: 3rd Party Gnome Plugin Available For Perlbox Voice?

May 12, 2010

In case I missed it in my seaching is there a 3rd party Gnome plugin available for Perlbox Voice? It really is an excellent piece of software, though unfortunately it doesn't play well with Gnome. And I REALLY don't want to switch to KDE. Their website hasn't been updated in awhile, and their powers-that-be are requesting help with programming one. If it doesn't exist is their anyone that I could request/beg/bribe to make one?

Fedora :: F14 Gnome Text/plain Versus Text/html File Type

Apr 2, 2011

I put a text file on my desktop and added a couple lines of text with gedit. File type shows text/plain. Double-click opens the file in gedit which is what I want. I'm using the file to temporarily hold some snips of code that I copy from file to file, but when I copy some html into the file and save it, now file properties show it's text/html and a double-click opens the file in firefox, which isn't what I want. Is there some way to keep the file type from changing itself?

Fedora :: Run "festival" (voice Synthesis) Without A X Server

Jan 8, 2010

I want to run "festival" (voice synthesis) without an X server running - from the command line of a console or from a "cron" job. I've been searching the web for a while and still can't understand why access to the sound card requires an X server. I can run a command-line sound program from inside an X session just fine, but from a console I get "XOpenDisplay() failed" or "Cannot connect". What do I need to do?

Red Hat / Fedora :: Adding Good Repositories For CentOS?

Feb 19, 2011

I'm giving CentOS a new look as a desktop. Been a few years since I last installed it on anything but a server. While the default repositories have improved greatly I am still bereft of so much of my cherished and necessary software. No Gambas, Wesnoth (shows up but version is 2 years out of date), Chrome, Audacious ugly plugins, XMMS support for FLAC (shows up but errors out if I try to install), Cinalarra, Audacity, JACK audio, Ardour, Xine, Amarok, Blender, Gthumb, Abiword, gramps, disk utility, many KDE apps, it's almost like KDE is a forgotten desktop manager for CentOS repsositories and pages more of software I'm too lazy too list. All of this is software which shows up in Debian based distros and most of which in Fedora/SUSE repositories.

What are some good repositories for CentOS. I clearly have the wrong ones enabled or CentOS is a very crippled desktop. Here are the repositories I've added/have.
Updates
extras
addons
adobe
base
c5-media errors out so I have it disabled.
centosplus
contrib
kbs-CentOS-extras & misc
Rpmforge
RPMforge extras errors out so I have it disabled.

CentOS users what repositories do you use?
