installing linux on some dell axim x50 pda's. I wanted to put some new life into mine by doing this, but cannot find if this venture was ever completed or how to install it.
View 1 RepliesI have tried both the i386 (worked) and x86 64 dvd iso installations. Both sha1sum results don't match. I got a torrent copy and it's sha1sum doesn't match either.
The problem is with the x86 64 iso dvd. It boots but takes a long time(2-3 minutes)to load ata_piix driver when the title bar says Loading SCSI driver. After it finishes loading that driver, when prompted for the installation method, if I select CD/DVD, I'm prompted to select a driver or install disk for driver. I've tried several different generic ata drivers from the list and end up with a strange memory map interwoven with a multi color(red, white and blue)
copied output as best I can.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Dell Vostro laptop with Core2 processor 1.8 GHz, 2 GB RAM. I want to install Fedora. I tried to install it with Fedora_14_ 32 bit and Fedora_14_ 64 bit. After booting by DVD or USB, I get initial blue screen in which I select Install and it starts for few seconds and freezes there, it does not move ahead. I got Fedora 32 bit DVD from Fedora so it should have come with checksum checked. So IMO DVD is ok, it is something else with regard to hardware detection, stopping installation to go ahead. I tried 3 times, but do not go ahead.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've installed ubuntu 10.04 onto my Dell Latitude e6510 (through the wubi installer), but I can't get anything except a black screen. I'm pretty new to ubuntu, but after a bit of looking around at graphics issues I found a bunch of boot parameters and tried different combinations of them. i915.modeset=0 Gave me the purple loading screen, until the screen went black and I got flashing caps lock and scroll lock lights.xforcevesa gave me a completely black screen -- not receiving power at all
I also tried noapci, acpi=off, irqpoll, and pci=routeirq as parameters. None of those had any success.I've also tried letting ubuntu boot with a black screen until I heard the African drums and pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 to go into the console, but the screen stayed black then as well.
I am using a dell laptop which has Dell 1397 802.11B/G Wireless Mini Card. I not able to connect to internet and was not able to detect what actual problem is weather card is not supported (i.e. drivers are not available) .
Also, if any one can point to exact process to connect to wireless Lan using fedora12.
This card has been the bane of my existence for a while. In the old days I could get it to work with Fedora using a generic video driver. A friend recommended OpenSuse because of my love for KDE.
The good news is that install went greeeeat. But after that, I once again got a black screen with a line randomly done it. Is there a way to change? I tried changing those resolution options but it didn't work. I have the Windoze driver from Dell's site. Its Dell Inspiron 5160.
My Dell Vostro 1520's Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card must not have been set-up correctly, as the Network Manager won't even let me select the wireless tab. Please just explain to me, step by step, what exactly I must do to make it work! The Dell has an Emulex card in it and it appears that the driver is loaded OK. What I am not sure on is what to do next! I have the SAN end configured but how do I get my LUN mounted on Ubuntu ?

How best to get from 9.04 to 10.04 on my Dell Mini 9?
I hadn't upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 because I read that the WiFi card no longer worked with 9.10 on the DM9. What I see now indicates that to get from 9.04 to 10.04 I MUST go thru 9.10. If that is the case, I won't be able to download 10.04 because I won't have a WiFi connection.
I try install debian 6 on my dell gx 270, but on some step of instalation I have error. I try other computer, also dell gx 270 but same problem. I try change cd rom, hard disc, ram .... but problem is still here. Is some chipset or something from dell is problem? I just got a new dell 15z and it hangs on the install "Waiting for hardware to initialize"of the 64bit fedora. I have tried both the nomodeset and noprobe and still to no avail. View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to boot my Dell Mini 12 from a USB boot disk with the ubuntu-9.10-alternate-lpia.iso image installed (I've also tried ubuntu-9.10-netbook-remix-i386.iso). I turn the machine on, press F12 to get to the boot menu, then select the USB disk. After this I just get a blinking cursor at the top left of the screen and nothing else happens.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Ubuntu 10.04 desktop and burned the CD. I changed the boot order on my Dell Inspiron 8100 to search for CD first. On startup, I see it flash - ISO LINUX something ............ The light flashes on my CD drive for a minute or so. I see a little icon at bottom of screen with a stick figure of a man and something else for a few seconds, then I see a white cloud flash on the screen that reduces in size and disappears, after another minute or so of the drive light flashing everything stops and still a black screen. Then, I tried hitting escape key a couple of times and I heard a few seconds of jungle music. The drive light flashes again for a while but nothing else happens. It seems like it's almost there, but not making it all the way for some reason.
By the way, if it matters, my Dell hard drive is partitioned to C: and D: I thought it would run a little faster that way, but not really noticable. I have most everything on C: right now. I hope to install side by side as I have a couple of applications I need Windows for, but would like to use Ubuntu for everything else. More questions about that later, on getting it to boot from the CD?
Since posting the above earlier under Dell, I have been able to boot from a borrowed 9.04 disk okay. And, was able to boot another computer with the 10.04 disk that I burned. The disk is apparently good, so why doesn't 10.04 work and 9.04 does?
I just received my brand new E6410 laptop, which have i5 processor and wish to install ubuntu 10.04 on it.
I am wondering which should I choose: 32-bit or 64-bit?
I've been trying for three days to install Ubuntu 10.10 on a Dell GX240, with no luck. Each and every time, I boot from the Live CD and get as far as the language selection screen. I click "Forward," and the little gearwheel spins forever. Or until I power the machine down, whichever comes first. The BIOS is at its latest level (A05), and it's in original factory configuration -- I haven't made any modifications to it. I've also tried booting into "Try Ubuntu without installing," and running "Install Ubuntu" from within that environment, with the same non-results.
After a minute or so, the machine becomes completely unresponsive and I have to power down and start all over again. I've done a lot of prowling the web to find answers, most of which recommend adding "acpi=force" to the boot options. Unfortunately, that doesn't work for me. Nor have any of the various acpi/apic options. I don't think this is a hardware problem, since I am able to install and run XP on this machine without any problems whatever.
Specs for the machine are:
256M memory, at 133Mhz
CPU speed 1.7 GHz, Pentium 4

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am currently running Ubuntu9.04 (Jaunty) on a Dell Vostro v13, pre-installed when I got it. I would like to upgrade to the 10.04 LTS but when I try, all goes fairly well until I get to the screen where it wants to set up my keyboard (Step 3). Then comp freezes and I have no use of touch-pad or keyboard, have to just shut off computer and re-install to factory settings to use it again. I have upgraded with USB and through update manager. Neither works. No clean instal from a CD because I don't have a CD drive... I have read in a couple places the inability to use keyboard/touch pad might have to do with the incorrect driver on the VostroV13.

View 3 Replies View RelatedRecently installed Fedora 10 on a DELL XPS M1330 Laptop. JUST CANT GET WI-FI TO WORK!
I first installed the ndiswrapper using this command : # yum install kmod-ndiswrapper and that was fined.
Went to dell web-site and downloaded the driver for broadcom using the command: $ wget [url]
unzip followed by saving it to home dir...
Type the following command: cd /home/username/broadcom/
Type in this command and am not really sure what they do but i think it helps to configure the wi-fi dell driver.
Rebooted the computer and checked if the driver was installed using # ndiswrapper -l and came up with bcmwl5 : invalid driver!
Just haven't a clue of what to do, so i automatically re-install ndiswrapper and started again with the same error bcmwl5 : invalid driver! Tried other Dell broadcom driver and without any luck.
I've tried to upgrade with prepupgrade and also to boot from F11 DVD, but just after anaconda starts, it hangs. (Just about when X starts) Maybe my hardware isn't supported yet or something but I can't find out. I don't find any anaconda log-file or anything to give me a clue what goes wrong.

After installing Fedora 11 from the dvd I booted.
I was first shown a blank blue screen with a mouse pointer then back to a text login.
At the login prompt it would not accept my keystrokes. Ctrl and backspace showed as a 2 character combination but alphanumeric keystrokes did not show.
I'm using a Dell C610 laptop with 1G of memory and 20G harddrive.
I need my computer working so since I didn't have enough disk space for a dual boot I've had to reinstall Windows.
I'm keen to switch to Linux and since I payed for Fedora 11 dvd I'd like to try and get that working before I try another distro.
