I am trying to Install Open Suse 11.3 (burned as an ISO DVD) along with existing Win 2008 R2 OS. When I try to boot from the DVD it just logs in to Win2008 though boot from CD/DVD is enabled in the boot sequence. So i tried to mount the ISO and run from Windows ! BUT I get an error before installation starts telling that Win2008 R2 is not supported in open suse installer! Is there anything I can do to overcome this and install/retain both OS? In fact I am even trying to c hange my win2008 from R2 to Enterprise to see if I can overcome the problem!

I am now installing the CentOS5.4 with a DVD on a Windows machine. The video card is ATI Radeon HD 3450, and monitor is Dell 1909W. During the install, after recognizing the ATI card, and starting the xserver, the screen came up with a message saying " The current input timing is not supported by the monitor display.
Please change your input timing to 1440X900@60Hz or any other monitor listed timing as per the monitor specification. "
However, in Windows XP the monitor is configured as 1440X900@60Hz, which works well. Due to this problem, the GUI installation cannot proceed. And how can I fix this problem if I manage to install in the text mode.

Would Suse run well on Dell E1705 laptop? I am currently running Ubuntu 9.10 and it's OK except it's buggy as h3ll when it comes to sound issues. Have been troubleshooting for months to no avail and ready to try another Distro.

So I've got a Dell Poweredge R410 with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 installed and my boss wants me to configure it like this:
Eth0 - No IP address (on general tab, activation set to "never")
Eth1 - No IP address (on general tab, activation set to "never")
Eth2 - No IP address (on general tab, activation set to "never")
Eth3 - No IP address (on general tab, activation set to "never")
bond0 - eth0, eth1, eth2, eth3 selected (Activation set to "On boot") No IP Address
bridge0 - bond0 selected (Activation set to "On boot"). IP, subnet and hostname defined.
The DNS and routing has all been set correctly. The problem is when I set the network configuration as above I cannot connect to the network I'm unable to ping the gateway. I only have 1 cable connected and it's plugged into eth0 but apparently this doesn't matter. If I delete the bond and bridge and instead apply the settings to eth0 it connects no problem but my boss wants to use load balancing and states that that setup should work.

I've been in doubt weather to install Linux open SUSE or Mint on my Dell inspiron 1501 laptop. Having tried the latest SUSE live CD (not finding a way to use WiFi) I decided to install Mint (Katya release). Now it turns out there's a bug on Ubuntu/debian related linux distros in connection with Dell Laptops, specifically on WiFi cards by Broadcom. (If you want to know more, check this Ubuntu forum thread and my comment on it.) My question is: are there any known bugs on Dell with OpenSUSE? An additional question would be: is it at all possible to use WiFi with the latest SUSE live CD?

I have my brand new Dell latitude e6410 delivered with Windows 7 already installed. I want a dual boot and I decided to try SUSE for the first time. I used the installation DVD, the installation seemed to end up well. The problem is that already at the first reboot, the screen went completely black. By pressing ctrl-alt-del I can reboot the laptop. It seems to me a problem with the graphic card.
My setup is:
Dell Latitude e6410
Intel i5 m560 @2.67 GHz
nVidia NVS 3100M
4Gb DDR ram
Intel 82577LM Gigabit Network connector
If I start in failsafe mode, the X server starts, I have KDE, although with a somewhat sketchy graphic, I can use SUSE almost normally. The main problem in this case being that the system doesn't find any ethernet/wi-fi device, so I cannot connect to the Internet (I'm writing from Win7 right now). I tried choosing the default SUSE boot with the additional boot option "nomodeset" at the grub prompt. This is a suggestion mentioned in another post on this forum, although in that case the problem was coming from a bug dealing with an Intel graphic card. The system goes up but then kde doesn't start. I'm asked to lgin at a prompt. If I try to launch kde from command line (startkde), it complains that the variable $DISPLAY is not setup.
This is where I am now. I'm quite out of ideas, so I want to ask you few things. First stupid question: is the problem coming likely from the drivers of the nvidia graphic card? Second question: in that case, how can I fix it, considering that the linux partition is "isolated"? The fact that in failsafe SUSE doesn't see any network adapter concerns me a bit.

My home connection is dialup via an 8-bit ISA modem. I plan to use the old box with the modem in it as a gateway and do my actual work on this laptop. Connection away from home is not so easy to get in my area.
SuSE 6.1 has no problem operating the modem, so the hardware works. SuSE 6.1 can't seem to make anything else work though. How can I configure Debian to see and operate this modem?
SuSE sees the modem on /dev/ttyS1. The same chat script does nothing on jessie. I'm guessing that jessie is just not seeing ISA.
I'm able to install packages onto the box via a usb drive but that's only on the days when the local coffee shop's wi-fi actually works, which is rare.

I've played with a couple of different versions on both Intel & AMD processors in the past (never totally successful) & all the versions I've played with in the past had separate downloads for i386 & AMD. I thought I'd try again with 9.10. When I started to download this morning, I only saw a version for x86 32bit & 64bit. What should I use for an AMD Athlon x2? Have Intel & AMD been rolled into x86?

I remember a few months ago I attempted to install Ubuntu 10.04 on my Dell laptop however the Dell 1397 internal card wasn't recognized which was a huge problem. I posted here & nobody responded. Now before I try and install 10.10 on my laptop, is there a way I can verify that my WLAN card will be recognized by the kernel or is it the same thing as 10.04?

I'm trying to test out UEFI boot and install with Fedora 13. It looks like it is not supported...at least not in the standard x86-64 DVD image. Running 'dumpet' on the .iso shows no EFI boot section (whereas, for example, RHEL6 Beta-2 x86-64 DVD .iso does show one); see output below. Will there [ever] be UEFI supported boot/install CD/DVD .isos for Fedora?

I just got Ubuntu 9.10 CD from the Canonical Ltd. I started to Install Ubuntu 9.10.
It asked me to Select a language then it started loading
After a minute or two the screen showed some errors and my monitor showed an error non-supported refresh rates 35.xx KHz / 75.x Hz
I dont remember the exact numbers but this is the error. This error is generated by monitor's hardware not ubuntu.

The last time I updated Linux it was from Gibbon to Heron. (so 7.10 to 8.04 ) I'm now trying to get caught back up. Thing is, now that I updated from 8.04 to 8.10 I can no longer get to a GUI. Also, most of the text in the terminal is a diamond character as if the font that's installed doesn't want to work most of the time. This is somewhat confusing, but I believe my system's language was set as Japanese before the upgrade and now it's trying to display Kana and/or Kanji and the terminal doesn't like that. Not really important, but I'm not sure how to proceed to the next upgrade or get to a GUI. Fortunately, my system's set up to dual-boot with windows. Can someone help tell me how to get my GUI back or what package to install?
I'm running on a laptop with an ATI mobility Radeon 9700. I've had problems with it and drivers in previous versions back to 6.10 too, but never to the point that the GUI wouldn't work. It's actually an issue with my X Server. I tried "startx" and it says "No Screens found". I looked in my xorg.conf file and there are two screens listed at the bottom. It produced a log too, but I can't get my Flash drive to mount so I can't say exactly what it says. It did mention that there were a lot of font directories that didn't exist along with a few other warnings.

Input Not Supported
I am unsure how this is happening, since I was able to install 10.10 successfully. To better assist, I am attaching detailed information about my computer system.
