Currently using Nvidia driver version 195.36.31, it's the version that works with Nvidia-kernel-dkms, would updating Nvidia driver to the current 275.09.07 driver version break my setup?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been searching for an hour or so and can't seem to find a concrete answer. My endgame is having Ubuntu successfully installed (either 9.10 or 10.04) with a fully working Ati 4870x2. I desperately need some help on finding the proper configuration of OS version and driver version. I installed 10.04 with the 10.3 driver package from ATI's site and it was a no go - I had nothing but problems.
I would like to have full 3d acceleration so I can play some games through Wine. This is a powerful card - I know ATI doesn't have a great reputation in the Linux world but I really hope there is a driver version I can install to get some good results. The rest of my specs are in my signature I need to install 64 bit Ubuntu to make use all of the system and video ram.
I have PCI-device and driver for it - tmk1553b.ko
The problem is to make this device work i have to open terminal after system starts and write
Code: Select allcd /path/to/driver
sudo insmod ./tmk1553b.ko d0=1 t0="TAI" misc=1
But idea is that this PC will work without operator so driver must be loaded automatically. As i realized the solution is to make script but when i try google it shows me how and where to put this script but not how to make it. Also i've tried to put tmk1553b.ko to /lib/modules/2.6.32-5-686/kernel/drivers/misc but it doesn't work.
Debian 6.0.10 (squeeze)
Kernel 2.6.32-5-686
I am installed Debian 5.0.5 with kernel 2.6.x.
I do a lspci and get: Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82573L Gigabit Ethernet Controller
Kernel modules: e1000e
I know under this im supposed to see: Kernel driver in use: e1000e <- but this doesn't exist.
So, under lsmod I see e1000e loaded:
Also how do I check the latest version available? I gather to update a driver I need to update the kernel so ill not be doing that but im trying to get more familiar with linux here. I know how to do this in windows so it would be good to be able to check driver versions in linux too. Im on debian 8.1 with intel HD4400 graphics.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have the HD4850 and, I wanted to know if it is possible to use the CLI to see which version of OpenGL is the latest version I can use according to my driver. If it's not possible via the CLI then, what's the next best way? (I can't find a website for the radeon driver listing the latest OpenGL support per supported card).
View 6 Replies View RelatedNow, my issue is that I have no access to ethernet in my apartment so I need to rely on wifi for my install. But during the install when it is looking for the network hardware it never sees the TP-Link Dongle and never asks if I wan to load the firmware. I even tried it with the CD image that has the non-free drivers included but it never asks for the drivers. Any other distro, like Linux Mint 7.3, sees the dongle fine.
So is there a way to force load the realtek-firmware drivers during install?
Built a machine w/ i5-4440 & gtx 960. I installed xserver-xorg-video-intel & xserver-xorg-video-nouveau. Xorg -configure fails, so I added xorg.conf I found online, makes no difference. xrandr can't open display. startx of course fails.
Backstory: My plan was to dual boot sid + stable as fallback with shared partition. First installed stable and whether connected to mobo or gfx card, I couldn't get login on tty, it would just hang on errors. So I installed sid (this time using lvm to hopefully make partitioning easier) and while I get the "failed to load nouveau" errors on mobo, gfx card gives me a login screen.

I have installed Debian Lenny and the Driver for an NvidiaCard GTX280. As this card is not supported by the debian-repositories, i have installed the driver from the nvida-Site. It works ok, but there's one thing: When i have compiz fusion activated, the caracters in the shell are sometimes hidden (pls see attachment).

I'm attempting to set up my "Tablet PF1209" pen tablet in Ubuntu 10.04. There should be 4 spaces before Tablet but this forum removes them. I've followed several of the HOW TOs and the best two I've found were: [URL]
Everything works the way it should except once I 'click' with my pen. After I press down to select something or paint, I can't get the hover feature to return. Well it returns if I unplug and plug it back in. It's kinda hard to use a pen tablet when you can only move the cursor when painting/dragging.
I've never had this issue the last time I used my tablet (Ubuntu 7.04)

I don't find many packages that I need using apt-get. Do I need to compile each package I need from source or use dpkg to install the deb of an i386 version?
Can I use the i386 version on this computer rather than the i686 version? Will it cause a signifncant performance decreaes? (I use this computer to mostly do some reading and writing and file storage, no gaming etc.) How do I force the installer to use the i386 version?

View 2 Replies View RelatedSometimes a kernel image seems to have the same version as the backported kernel image, for example:

linux-image-2.6.32-5-amd64
What are the differences between the two?
I use a ZTE 626 USB modem to connect to the internet (and yes, i am in the wilds of nowhere!) which using USB-modeswitch 1.1.0-2 and ubuntu 10.04 works well.
I just upgraded one machine to 10.10 and it included the new modeswitch 1.1.4 which does not work, the modem is never discovered. I searched around and found that this is a bug in the latest modeswitch and apparently if you back down to version 1.1.3 it works.
So, i have two questions,
first, where can i find version 1.1.3 of modeswitch. I have searched and cannot find older version than 1.1.4 as a .DEB file.
second, i do have a really old version of modeswitch (1.1.0-2) on my hard-drive and have been trying to load my older 1.1.0-2 version and am having real problems with it. I remove the 1.1.4 version and its data using the ubuntu software centre and it looks like it properly is removed. I then click on the .DEB file that contains 1.1.0-2 and it opens the software centre and installs it (the data seems to be automatically loaded as i never have to install that). I then search for modeswitch and the version that has been installed is the newer 1.1.4 one, not the older one i clicked on. I am confused as this computer is not attached to the internet but it seems to find the newer version from somewhere, uses it and therefore does not work. I presume the version 1.1.4 is cached somewhere and i am not able to clear it out.
Incidentally, the source of the information that i have so far is here:

From reading this, i do understand that there is a problem, After reading this bug fix I tried editing the config file for the modeswitch modems and changing all of them to the format indicated, but no joy.
How do the version numbers compare? Are they identical? I have Iceweasel 3.5.13, does that mean I essentially have Firefox 3.5.13?
View 11 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to load RHEL4 (I know, I know, but I can't get around that) on a Panasonic Toughbook CF-31 using a kickstart file. I start the install using 'linux acpi=off ks=cdrom:/ks.cfg' (I use acpi=off otherwise it hangs at some ACPI embedded controller message). It does not recognize my CD-ROM drive, though, and asks me to choose the driver or point to a driver disk. I've selected 'Advanced Host Controller Interface SATA (ahci)' and it is able to continue on. It forgets that it was supposed to run off of the kickstart, though, and goes into the default graphical install. My question is...how do I add a line into the kickstart to choose this driver?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running Fedora 13 and KDE 4.5.5 (approximately). My video card is an ATI Radeon HD 5750. I have been having problems with the drivers for this card (as described here), having tried both the open-source driver and the proprietary ATI driver.
Recently I tried to install the new Catalyst 11.2 from ATI. In the process I broke something. Now when I boot, Fedora cannot load KDE. It reaches the screen with a progress bar at the bottom and "Fedora 13" in the lower right corner. The progress bar fills and becomes all white, then the system stalls. (I can boot into a command-line, though.)
I have had this problem once before. Last time I got it working again by following Fenrin's instructions in this thread. This time it does not work.
How can I get KDE back and running, using either the proprietary or the open-source driver?
