Sep 23, 2010After I installed my ati grapics driver (the ati driver from the ati website) my ubuntu has this weird problem. When loading there is a line that cought my attention:

I think that has something todo with the other error I get which is:
Primary device is not PCI
(EE No devices detected)
Fatal server error
no screens found
giving up.
I have an ATI 5650 Radeon mobile grapics card By the way.

Jun 6, 2011I'm having issues getting the nvidia-current drivers working with a GeForce 8400 graphics card on Ubuntu 10.10 (x64). After running nvidia-xconfig and restarting, X fails to start with an error: No devices detected.

Aug 10, 2011I just cannot adjust the brightness. When I use Gnome bar's brightness applet or the combination of keys on my laptop,the bar moves but there is no effect. Its too bright for me, I am getting blind for real.

Nov 17, 2009I'm using openSUSE 11.1 and i have problems using the USB webcam.
First of all i do not know the commands to check whether the device is detected or not. My webcam is iBall c12.0 and is USB video compilant.
The Cheese software says 'no camera found'.
Please inform about what commands to use and what softwares/drivers to use.

Jul 16, 2010I have just installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on my AMD 64 bit desktop. I have a usb connection for my Brother MFC 8860DN printer. I used the synaptic package manager to install the printer drivers ubuntu already had in their repository for my printer model. When I connect my printer to the computer Ubuntu recognizes the model, but cannot detect the printer drivers I have already installed. The printer drivers were installed to /usr where a Brother folder was created. the Cupswrapper and lpd files are in the Brother folder. How can I get the system to detect its own files so I can get the printer to work?

Apr 8, 2010I have been using ubuntu for quite a long time, and for the first time, I am now unable to set nvidia drivers to work. I have just install ubuntu 9.10 amd64 on an AMD 64 athlong X2 with a GEForce 6500 nvidia card.
The only reason I need the proprietary drivers is to use two monitors.
I am going crazy, I have tested everything I have found on the web. I have tried all the nvidia drivers version, I have tried envyng, ... but nvidia do not work!!
I am trying Xinerama with nv, but it does not work either!!!
Here is my xorg.conf file in which I have tried to use nv driver to set dual monitor. X fails to load and it says that screen 0 is deleted, that devices are found but there are no matches in the config file. Any clue?

1. How install older version of mozilla firefox internet browser here? I can't install some plugins because it's a firefox beta 12 version, for example. I am quake fan, o I like play quake live, but i can't install quake plugin, because my firefox is beta version.

After a couple of reboots, I changed from the proprietary drivers, to the regular nVidia drivers. After doing this, the startup logo is displayed at a really low resolution. Oct 24, 2009I just installed Karmic beta and I'm having issues with getting my wireless driver to work. When I was using 9.04 and when I booted 9.10 from a CD, I could just go to System > Administration > Hardware Drivers and activate a wireless driver and everything would be just peachy. The problem is that, in the install of 9.10 beta, no drivers appear when I load the Hardware Drivers GUI, so I can't get wireless internet.
Is there anything I can do besides wait a few days for the full release of 9.10 and hope that solves the issue?

Nov 14, 2010I tried several distros for my machines this week and settled for PCLINUXOS 2010.10.
My machine - Intel i7 with 8GB DDR3 133Mhz RAM. The BIOS shows all the RAM properly so everything fine from hardware side, but PCLOS detects only 3 GB of RAM!
Output of cat /proc/meminfo | grep MemTotal:
MemTotal: 3046464 kB
as after a long tryouts my heart is set for PCLOS and if it cannot use my full RAM then it's over, I will have to go on distro hunt AGAIN(sykes).
Software :: DVD Is Not Being Detected
Mar 25, 2010I have a windows installer DVD which has been used by my friend for installation, and which even today is being recognised and mounted by windows. But when I insert this dvd in in FC 11, it is not recognised, nor is it being mounted. I have tried so many things (like manually mounting using different possible file system types etc) but of no avail. The drive is kosher - It is very graciously allowing me to use my other CDs/DVDs.
Here is one mount effort and the corresponding dmesg output:

Debian :: Eth0 Not Detected
Oct 31, 2015I've just grabbed the debian8 netinstall and installed it on my eeePC 701. I plan on using it as a test web server or something similar. The problem is I've managed to get the wifi working, but I really wanted to get the wired ethernet connection working and for some reason I can't detect it.
