Debian Hardware :: With Kernel Upgrade To 3.16.0 Lost WiFi Module

Jun 7, 2015

I got notebook HP Pavilion 15-p171nr. Have installed Debian Wheezy. There was some problems, for example with screen brightness (backlight) and it was solved here: [URL] .....

The problem was solved with upgrading kernel 3.2.0 to 3.16.0 from backports... but... with these steps i lost my wi-fi wl module...

It was downloaded somewhere, compiled and worked well until kernel upgrade... For the current moment i can not compile it.

My hardware:
Code: Select all08:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM43142 802.11b/g/n (rev 01)

Within last steps official wiki recommends (my device is in the supported list): [URL] .... but I got problems with compilation... here they are:

I have installed correct linux-headers:

Code: Select allroot@hpnote:/home/yaroslav/Загрузки# apt-get install -t wheezy-backports linux-headers-amd64
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
linux-headers-amd64 is already the newest version.

[Code] ....

Then I am trying to reconfigure already installed broadcom-sta-dkms package and here is what I got:

Code: Select allroot@hpnote:/home/yaroslav/Загрузки# dpkg-reconfigure broadcom-sta-dkms
------------------------------
Deleting module version: 5.100.82.112
completely from the DKMS tree.
------------------------------
Done.
Loading new broadcom-sta-5.100.82.112 DKMS files...
Building only for 3.16.0-0.bpo.4-amd64

[Code] ......

Hardware :: WiFi USB Dongle Not Seen

May 10, 2010

I'm running Debian Squeeze on my desktop computer. I have a USB dongle of italian brand Dikom (they just re-brand Chinese products). It has a Zydas ZD1211B chip. Now, according to this, drivers for that chip have been included in all distros for a while. And yet, Debian doesn't want to know about my dongle. Wicd can't connect, the system doesn't seem to do anything with hotplugging when it's inserted, and lspci doesn't list it. What to do (short of threading Ethernet cable from one end of my home to the other)?

General :: Install New Module On Newly 2.6.35-rc5 Kernel?

Jul 16, 2010

Recently I was trying to look into vmware pvscsi modules for newly announced linux kernel 2.6.35-rc2. I compiled the kernel with option: make oldconfig where it asked me for various interactive options and all I did is Kept pressing the Enter ENTER key(Donno if that is the correct way to slect default ).The Kernel Compilation anyway went fine and I can see new kernel at grub screen, booted and it went fine.Now when I explored I found that nor the vmware_balloon and vmw_pvscsi modules are present which means I need to install these modules.I came to know that recently a new version of the vmware memory drivers being included through this page:

[URL]

where you can see an entry like:

Code:

MODULE_AUTHOR("VMware, Inc.");
MODULE_DESCRIPTION("VMware Memory Control (Balloon) Driver");
-MODULE_VERSION("1.2.1.0-K");
+MODULE_VERSION("1.2.1.1-k");

Doesn't it mean that the new kernel has new driver version inboxed?Also, I tried to install modules through modprobe and insmod(seems that this doesnt work) but couldnt do that.

Ubuntu Networking :: Getting USB WiFi Dongle To Work?

Nov 19, 2010

I've bought this Blumax USB WLAN adapter 9009 (ID 148f:2573 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2501/RT2573 Wireless Adapter). I was specifically happy to read in its specs that it supports Linux [URL].

However, it turned out that the co-packaged CD drive doesn't contain anything Linux-related, and the support page online has gzip package with many files I don't know what to do with [URL]. The online support swallowed my query and hasn't returned any answer.

So, now I am wondering what to do. I don't feel so competent as to be able to compile the drivers on my own, specifying several specific parameters. At least it doesn't compile with default params. how to move forward with this. Apart from returning the device, because I'm too far now from the place where I bought this.

OpenSUSE Install :: Apparmor Module Does Not Load On Kernel-rt?

Aug 6, 2010

I have just reinstalled OS 11.2 but this time the 64bit system variant. I installed the real-time kernel and saw that the apparmor module reported an error and wasn't loaded. I have never looked into apparmor and only knows it has something to do with security, and thus I wonder if it is important to do something with this issue? I plan to use the kernel-rt and have more or less always used a variant of this kernel flavour, often self built. Though I can not recall having seen that error before and I have not used a 64bit system before

OpenSUSE Install :: Kernel Upgrade On 11.1 - Cannot Find Module After Reboot

Nov 10, 2010

I've upgraded kernel 2.6.27.48-0.2-default to 2.6.27.54-0.1.1 on openSUSE 11.1. Before I tried to upgrade to 2.6.27.48-0.3-default where I encountered the same issue. After reboot it can not find the modules for 2.6.27.48-0.2-default which puzzled me to no end. Now I have found that the /boot which is on separate partition of ext2 type is not mounted. The mount command does not recognize ext2 and xfs anymore.

Clearly the initrd does not have the right modules. Since this is standard zypper up process I would expect this to work without issues since it has worked until the 2.6.27.48-0.2-default kernel without issues. Has something changed with the last 2 kernel versions that requires some extra actions from me and if so what do I have to do.

Nov 7, 2010

Im a Linux newbie and am running OpenSuse 11.3 (Gnome, 2.6.34.7-0.5-desktop Kernel) and Ive an Asus N13 wifi dongle (linux compatible). I currently connect using my laptopś internal wifi but I bought the dongle due to trouble with weak signal. It came with some sort of code that can be "compiled" but I havent got a clue how to do that (and I have been researching this matter for quite some time now). I then came across a post where someone with the same USB stick created and added only two small files to his filesystem and it worked...for him (maybe becasuse he was on a different Distro )

Ralink RT2870 USB Stick and created the two files mentioned in the post (network_drivers.rules and network_drivers.conf) and placed them in ETC... etc, etc! I rebooted the system but NetworkManager only lists it as "device not ready" ... So now back to square one.
