Ubuntu Networking :: Old Module In Newer Kernel?

Aug 23, 2010

I got a engineering sample wifi card - Intel wimax 5350. This card work well with kernel 2.6.28-15-generic and earlier kernels.

However after kernel 2.6.28-16 , this card no longer support by newer kernel.
the error is "Unsupported EEPROM VER=0x21b < 0x21e CALIB=0x4 < 0x4"

I knew the reason is that card is a Engineering sample .. it should not get support in newer version kernels.

What i try to think is that "is it possible to replace old wifi module into the new wifi module in new kernel " and the system can also get works !?

Below is message of dmesg.

------------------ Kernel version : vmlinuz-2.6.28-15-generic

That's it guys. I have successfully installed the proprietary ati drivers in past 6.34 and 6.35 kernels but not in latest .6.36. I'm wondering if this have something to do with compatibility or not.

OpenSUSE Install :: Failed To Load Module "fglrx" (module Does Not Exist, 0)

May 8, 2011

I've installed openSuse 11.4 server-mode (text only) on my desktop, and I'm trying to configure IceWM so i'll eventually have it set up so it always boots into text only mode, but I could be able to quickly start icewm via the command line.using Yast, I installed the Xorg server, and icewm.when I type X, the screen goes black and it just doesn't seem to do anythingI found if I hit ctrl+alt+f1 it kinda puts me back into text only mode, but I can't put in commands anymore. The last thing it says on the screen is:

Failed to load module "fglrx" (module does not exist, 0)

I've goggled that error message and the discussions that popped up around it made no sense to me at all. I've never configured X from scratch before, can someone point me towards a tutorial or something?

Debian :: Install Bigmem Kernel With Ati Catalyst FGLRX ?

Jan 14, 2011

I'm running Debian Squeeze/current fine with the default kernel & ATi's Catalyset drivers. I'm struggling to get the display drivers to work with the bigmem kernel as I've got 4GB ram on my machine so might as well try to enable it.

I can have my system work with the normal Squeeze kernel by installing the normal kernel headers & then FGLRX drivers, but after additionally installing the bigmem kernel & headers (linux-image-2.6-686-bigmem & linux-headers-2.6-686-bigmem) I cannot get the system to reach X after removing & then re-installing the video drivers.

General :: Install New Module On Newly 2.6.35-rc5 Kernel?

Jul 16, 2010

Recently I was trying to look into vmware pvscsi modules for newly announced linux kernel 2.6.35-rc2. I compiled the kernel with option: make oldconfig where it asked me for various interactive options and all I did is Kept pressing the Enter ENTER key(Donno if that is the correct way to slect default ).The Kernel Compilation anyway went fine and I can see new kernel at grub screen, booted and it went fine.Now when I explored I found that nor the vmware_balloon and vmw_pvscsi modules are present which means I need to install these modules.I came to know that recently a new version of the vmware memory drivers being included through this page:

[URL]

where you can see an entry like:

Code:

MODULE_AUTHOR("VMware, Inc.");
MODULE_DESCRIPTION("VMware Memory Control (Balloon) Driver");
-MODULE_VERSION("1.2.1.0-K");
+MODULE_VERSION("1.2.1.1-k");

Doesn't it mean that the new kernel has new driver version inboxed?Also, I tried to install modules through modprobe and insmod(seems that this doesnt work) but couldnt do that.

OpenSUSE Install :: Apparmor Module Does Not Load On Kernel-rt?

Aug 6, 2010

I have just reinstalled OS 11.2 but this time the 64bit system variant. I installed the real-time kernel and saw that the apparmor module reported an error and wasn't loaded. I have never looked into apparmor and only knows it has something to do with security, and thus I wonder if it is important to do something with this issue? I plan to use the kernel-rt and have more or less always used a variant of this kernel flavour, often self built. Though I can not recall having seen that error before and I have not used a 64bit system before

Is "default" somewhere? Was it replaced? Things seem to be working alright in most cases although I'm having inordinate problems with "virtual Box" and Vmware server. In Vbox the kernel module won't start.

OpenSUSE Install :: Kernel Upgrade On 11.1 - Cannot Find Module After Reboot

Nov 10, 2010

I've upgraded kernel 2.6.27.48-0.2-default to 2.6.27.54-0.1.1 on openSUSE 11.1. Before I tried to upgrade to 2.6.27.48-0.3-default where I encountered the same issue. After reboot it can not find the modules for 2.6.27.48-0.2-default which puzzled me to no end. Now I have found that the /boot which is on separate partition of ext2 type is not mounted. The mount command does not recognize ext2 and xfs anymore.

Clearly the initrd does not have the right modules. Since this is standard zypper up process I would expect this to work without issues since it has worked until the 2.6.27.48-0.2-default kernel without issues. Has something changed with the last 2 kernel versions that requires some extra actions from me and if so what do I have to do.

Ubuntu Installation :: Can't Upgrade To A Newer Kernel

Jul 22, 2011

It seems that i am stuck using the 2.6.38-9 kernel, since no matter what i try, i can't update. I have had this problem since 2.6.38-10, but figured that the problem probably would solve itself after the next kernel update, sadly that was not the case.

I have had some worrying error-massages from dpkg about broken packages, which i believe might be the source of this problem, as it reported that the package "linux-image-generic" was broken. I removed the postinstall script from /var/lib/dpkg/info and updated both dpkg and aptitude.

I am not getting any more error messages, and if i look in the synaptic package manager, i can see that kernel 2.6.38-11 is indeed installed, yet i can't select it at bootup, even though i have tried to manually update grub.

Ubuntu :: Fglrx 8.780 - Kernel 2.6.35-25 ?

Jan 29, 2011

I have a HP Pavillion dv5 laptop with an ATI Mobility Radeon 4200 series. It always worked fine with Ubuntu for as long as I can remember. However, at one point, something happened and truly made a majestic mess of things. It might've been extra repos I enabled with Ubuntu Tweak - I do not know. But something made it so that my system would not boot any longer.

And when I say "won't boot", this is what I mean:

- Durning a normal bootup, any entries (except Windows) selected with GRUB (or BURG, not even sure which one I'm using anymore) will spawn the Ubuntu loading screen.

- then try to start X (or GDM) 5 times. The screen goes to dark, black and back to the Ubuntu loading screen. Then it just stays there until I spawn another TTY.

I have no idea what is happening or why. There are no errors in my logs, and I'm truly at a loss here.

I've linked three files: Xorg.0.log, the output of dmesg and the GDM log:
