View 8 RepliesI'm confused as to what protocols 50 and 51 are.
Code:
-A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -p 50 -j ACCEPT
-A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -p 51 -j ACCEPT
The '-p' option is not for a network port but for a protocol. I've never heard of 50 and 51 protocols.
I configure IPtable on RadHat as firewall and i want to allow for IP Phone using SIP protocol.I already allow port 5060 for IP Phone using SIP Protocol and I can call out.The problem is:
1. I can call out and in but when they pick up my call they hear what i'm saying but i can't hear they are saying.
I used VPN before in Windows only.
How can I connect to VPN network by PPTP protocol in a simple way ?
I'm using putty 0.60 (on Windows Vista) to connect by ssh protocol to other Linux computer. I have a problem with VI/VIM. When I key button "n" or "b", it returns me n^Z or b^Z.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI downloaded Slackware64-current to give it a try on my laptop and all went well as usual. However when trying to connect to another computer from Dolphin via sftp I was informed that sftp is an 'invalid protocol'. I can use ftp, though. Same thing happens with Konqueror. Using Konsole I can successfully start sftp, although that is not exactly what I want or need. For me, this is really a major problem as my office computer can only be accessed at home via secure shell. I need to be able to upload/download files and folders from there and from other machines. I wasn't really aware of how heavily I depend on this until now. Has anyone else run into this problem? If so, is there a fix or a workaround?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I go out of town I normally take my Acer Netbook to travel light. I ran into a problem over the weekend which I have seen before and couldn't find the cause. I used the wifi at the house I was staying at and could connect to the router via Wicd and ping outside IP addresses, however, I could not connect to any websites with Iceweasel or Midori. I receive the generic error that the browser is unable to connect. Now that I am back at my house I cannot repeat the problem, but have found a couple threads about disabling ipv6 protocol. The symptoms sound like a browser setting, but I couldn't find any settings that looked unusual.

View 6 Replies View Relatedi am wanting to use Firefox to connect to my smb shares. However, i keep getting this error message: Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (smb) isn't associated with any program. My client configuration is as follows: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-GB; rv:1.9.1.8pre) Gecko/20100106 Ubuntu/9.10 (karmic) Shiretoko/3.5.8preI tried the instructions below to try and fix the problem with no success: Quote: From [URL]
Linux with Firefox In order to connect to a network share directly from you browser under Linux, you must configure Firefox to handle URL's starting with "smb://". This is done by typing "about:config" in the address line and hitting return. After that you must right-click the list of settings and choose "New -> Boolean" as shown below.
As name you must type: "network.protocol-handler.external.smb" with a value of "true". After that you must do the same thing over again, but this time choose "New -> String", type the name: "network.protocol-handler.app.smb" with a value of the path to the application you wish to use for browsing network shares. If you use KDE, this will typically be "/usr/bin/konqueror".
I need to connect to a serial port server via /dev/tty.. . The serial port IP addresses are the server's IP address with a particular port # (10001, 10002 etc). The way this seems to work is to create a pseudo-tty and somehow link or configure it to point to the serial server's IP/port #'s.

My config :
Dell PowerEdge 2900III
16Gb RAM
2 arrays RAID1 (2*(2*500Gb))
CentOS5.5
VMWare 2.0.2 (with workaround of downgrade glibc to CentOS5.3)
Since the upgrade from CentOS5.4 to CentOS5.5, it seems the sshd is crashing every other day.I can access to the VMWare webserver, but no way to connect through ssh port 22.The only "workaround" is a hard reboot of the server, and with luck, I can access to the server through ssh.I checked /var/log/secure, it looks like time to time when the server start, it does not start the sshd service, there is no entry at all for the time the server started up. For instance today, the server has been started early this morning, but the first entry was found after a hard reboot this evening : Jun 3 18:19:14 hercules sshd[3617]: Server listening on 0.0.0.0 port 22.
when i fisrt signed up for this forums i accidently posted this same topic in the first place i found apropriate(network/wirless) and i just realised i didn't look hard enough so i marked my old post as solved, please admin delete that one. ubuntu server 10.04 LTS running ubuntu desktop on top(for my lack of skill)ok nitty-gritty. i have been learning to use linux for a few months now and i like it but i cannot access my server through WAN on any ports, yes i have them all open and enabled and associated on my router properly. i even tryed turning off firewall on here and i have tryed a list of misc. things. is there something i am not doing that one might initialy do when first starting an ubuntu server?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen one should try to connect to port 3306 of particular ip here e.g. 345.56.67.87 it should be redirected to port 3306 of internal machine. This is the scene : How can I access the particular port of the machine which is behind the router . i.e. From out side internet I would like to connect to the port 21 of the machine (192.168.5.8) which is behind router (345.56.67.87) . Here are the details I tried : both side linux (centos)
1.enabled ip forwarding of router (345.56.67.87)
2.enabled ip forwarding of machine (192.168.5.8)
3.implemented some iptable rules: /sbin/iptables -t nat -A OUTPUT --dst 345.56.67.87-p tcp --dport 3306 -j DNAT --to-destination 192.168.5.8:3306
4.iptables -t nat -A OUTPUT --dst 345.56.67.87 -p tcp --dport 3306 -j DNAT--to-destination 192.168.5.8:3306
I tried to google on it mainly it dealt with the iptable rules. of which i applied but error is" can not connect to the port 3306 of 192.168.5.8"
I want to do a simple port redirect, i.e. whatever comes trough whatever interface on port AAAA will get redirected to port BBBBI thought that iptables -t nat -I PREROUTING --source 0/0 --destination 0/0 -p tcp --dport AAAA -j REDIRECT --to-ports BBBBhowever it doesn't work, e.g. nc -v -w2 -z localhost AAAA gives:
nc: connect to localhost port AAAA (tcp) failed: Connection refused
while
nc -v -w2 -z localhost BBBB

I want to use bitlbee-irssi to IM using gtalk.. I have installed bitlbee and edited /etc/bitlbee/bitlbee.conf with
RunMode = ForkDaemon
User = bitlbee
DaemonInterface = 127.0.0.1
DaemonPort = 6667
Now when I try to connect to the localhost at port 6667 using irssi, i get the following error message saying it cannot connect to localhost port 6667
13:48 -!- Irssi: Looking up localhost
13:48 -!- Irssi: Connecting to localhost [127.0.0.1] port 6667
13:48 -!- Irssi: Connection to localhost established
13:48 -!- Error: bind: Permission denied
13:48 -!- Error: listen: Bad file descriptor
13:48 -!- Irssi: Connection lost to localhost
A similar looking error comes up when I try to telnet localhost at 6667. Also, I get a selinux warning saying SELinux is preventing /usr/sbin/bitlbee "name_bind" access .How do I check if bitlbee is listening to port 6667? Btw, I am using fedora 13, I have selinux running in enforcing mode and the firewall running. I have set the port 6667 in the other ports tab of "system-config-firewall" (I am hoping that this will open that port).

I can ping all OS from any OS, I can connect to a shares, I can connect to the web server. I can do a netscan and display the open ports and the services for those ports except for MySql. How do get MySql to showup, so I can connect to it from my Joomla CMS? I came from openSuse and I like how they have modules to do this automatically. What do I use with Ubuntu to get the same results?
I went to shut down a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, and about halfway through the little yellow/orange bar the screen went black and it said:
"xxx.xxxxxx hub 2.0: 1.0 connect-debounce failed port y disabled" (xxx.xxxxxx being a different number string each time, and y being a port number)
It gives me that message for 3, sometimes 4, ports--3 times (port 2, port 3, port 1, port 2, port 3, port 1, etc.). Once I got that while starting up. Near the end of that colored bar, it gave me the black screen, and then this big long list of stuff it was checking. When it got to starting Bluetooth, it started that connect-debounce thing for all the ports. Then there was some other stuff that disappeared faster than I could write it down. However, Ubuntu did a system check the next day, and that start up issue disappeared--at start up and shut down. A couple of days ago, it started the connect-debounce thing on shutdown again. Ubunutu did a system check, but it did not fix the shut down issue or get the USB mouse/items to work.
I post the below output.

I can't seem to establish a conncction to my site (that I'm hosting in the same computer as the gFTP client- running Lucid Lynx desktop as a server). My site is 'out there', with a domain etc. and also I work on it with localhost. I wanted to use ftp as Joomla has a 'ftp layer' for files permissions etc. But it keeps saying that I can't connect, or the connection 'was reset by a peer' whatever that means. For 'hostname' I use site.com (site is my site's name) and even tried the whole thing like http://www.site.com (I clicke on 'connect to remote, and enter that in the url). or just put it where 'host' goes (when I'm not using localhost) For user name and pass, I just enter what I usually put to access the administrator's back panel in joomla, but maybe I am supposed to use what I use to log on to ubuntu when I start my computer? note sure. Anyway I used a telnet command in the terminal and found that port 21 was blocked. MY isp says they don't block any ports so I don't know. I was able to do this last year so I don't know what is so hard about this lol In the router, I have 'ftp 21 to 21 and ip address 192.168.1.100 (ip is the same for http which is working as I have my site up) now it seems to be open as I used a command at the terminal (found from google). It's open but my ftp still can't connect to my server either localhost or to my site. there is no firewall blocking it and I think my router is set right.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWow, don't know why I seem to have so much trouble with this ftp stuff. I have so start all over a few times, reinstalling Lucid Lynx destop all over, and adding the needed files to make it a server. I am just trying to do something simple for now- just having a localhost server environment to develop my joomla website, and later on host it from my server 'out there' (I already have a domain name and dynDNS service with nameservers etc. but don't want to do that yet, as I have in the past with my router forwarding port 80, and actually got hacked! so I don't want to do that again until I learn more about security) My problem right now is that I can't even get the localhost ftp to 'connect to the server'. i know the host name (localhost) and username/password that I set when I set up Lucid Lynx, and I'm sure that is what I use for the ftp usernamepassword, host etc. And I put port 21 for the port. I see from 'Shields Up' that my port 21 is closed. So I followed advice on a thread and entered a few commands in the terminal to ad iptables etc. But still, port 21 is closed and I can't install components with the Joomla installer in admin's backend. And I can't use fireftp to even change permissions in my local folders. What do i do next, open port 21 somehow? I saw a terminal command about opening port 21 that was simple but I forget it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have setup an OpenVPN server on my server box, it had been working perfectly until today. It operates on port 1194 which I am now unable to connect to (tried telnet). I have checked all the firewall rules and they still allow the port and I have also checked to ensure that OpenVPN is still listening to the port, which it's not but I have tried restarting the service and the box which dosent make any difference. The only thing that has changed is that yesterday I installed Openfire, could this have broken something?
View 1 Replies View RelatedNetstat has always confused me. I ype netstat -pl and get this:
Code:

I assume that *:* means that any foreign host can connect from any port, but then what does [::]:* mean? and localhost:ipp... what port is ipp? Shouldn't ports be numeric?
