Hardware :: Video Card Error Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 1850 Kernel 2.6.27-17-generic

Sep 4, 2010

I am trying to install a Hauppauge 1850 video card into Linux Home automation system (LinuxMCE) which is based on Ubuntu Intrepid (I can't upgrade the kernel since this is what the LinuxMCE distribution supports)I am feeding analog signal to the video card, either through a coax analog connection or an RCA analog connection. I cannot see any picture from the card (I verified that the video card is working properly under a Windows Vista OS)I am trying to use the video card using a lightweight application such as tvtime, xawtv. In all applications I am failing to see an image. (For example, tvtime shows the message "No inputs avialble Cannot open capture device /dev/video0". Right clicking on Input configuration / Change video source doesn't give any options)

Ubuntu :: Hauppauge WinTV IR Modules Broken In Natty - Previously Working In 10.10

Aug 7, 2011

I am having problems with Natty AMD64 (Ubuntu 11.04) and LIRC/IR-Keytables.

I have a Hauppauge WinTV card (Bt87 (TV card and IR receiver/transmitter) that worked (for the first time) automatically with 10.10 and LIRC. I recently moved over to 11.04, copied my LIRC config files over (hardware.conf, lircd.conf, lircmd.conf, etc), and received the error couldn't find any node at /sys/class/rc/rc*

The modules I had previously been successful with were: lirc_dev & lirc_i2c, as is apropriate for my speific card.

I then learned that Natty incorporated a lot of RC elements in to the kernel, and tried following:[url]

Which suggested removing lirc. At this point, ir-keytable also gives the same error about no node at /sys/class/rc/rc*

I think that I am having a problem with the correct driver being loaded for my card. When I look at a dmesg, the relevant section is: (note: I'm not sure if this dmesg was from before or after I uninstalled LIRC and just tried keytables)

Code:

The 3rd last line makes it seem that the IR capabilities have been recognized further confusing me as to why no /sys/class/rc/rc* has been registered. I've attached an unedited copy of my proc/bus/pci/devices, and below is my lsmod.

Slackware :: Software RAID 1 Versus LILO / Kernel-generic - ERROR: No /sbin/init Found On Rootdev

Jul 1, 2011

I'm currently trying to setup Slackware 13.7 on a server, using software RAID 1. I'm using the README_RAID.TXT document at the root of the Slackware disc as a reference. Anyway, here's what I have so far.

/dev/md1 -> /boot partition
/dev/md2 -> swap partition
/dev/md3 -> / partition

Code:

[root@raymonde:~] # fdisk -l /dev/sd{a,b}
Disk /dev/sda: 41.1 GB, 41110142976 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 4998 cylinders, total 80293248 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes

[code]....

I created an initrd image using mkinitrd -F, added an according stanza to /etc/lilo.conf and ran 'lilo' after that. Now I can boot on the vanilla huge kernel all right. But I can't seem to boot on the generic kernel. Whenever I try to do this, the boot process stops short on the following error message:

Code:

mount: mounting /dev/md3 on /mnt failed: Device or resource busy

Ubuntu Multimedia :: How To Enable Your Hauppauge 1250 Tv Card

Dec 18, 2010

This is a writeup to help you enable your Hauppauge 1250 tv tuner card so you can use it with programs such as Mythtv. This will enable multiple cards. I am assuming your card isn't working "out of the box". You can check if it is recognized in the OS by following the instructions in "How to tell if the TV card is recognized" below.

In linux land, the 1250 is not just a 1250 but can be a variety of designations. I own older 1250's which are listed as 1270's. My newer cards are listed as 1255's. These cards usually don't work "out of the box" with linux. You have learn the ropes and enable them yourself. You have to have time on your hands and be a glutton for punishment when it comes to setting up linux but a stable, well running system is worth it. If you need everything done for you and want it "out of the box", you might as well ride back to Bill Gates' Boneless Chicken Ranch.

First off, here is an updated cardlist for the cx23885 driver that is used with the 1250 amongst other tuner cards:

Software :: Get Mythtv To Find Channel 4 On Hauppauge 250 Pvr Card?

Nov 8, 2010

I have an old Fisher VHS player with the old 'antenna' connection [one wire] to the TV. It does still work. I connect this to an old Hauppauge 250 pvr card in a box running Ubuntu 10-10.

I want to be able to put old tapes on my disk drive.

Working mainly with MythTv, I can not get it to work. The hardware seems to be working as I have options for tuner1 and other inputs. As channel 4 is no longer 'broadcast' I can't scan for it even with the VCR running.

Would someone please hold my hand an provide the necessary steps to get MythTv working or an alternative.

I have read the five similar threads and numerous other google hits but can't find what I need. Part of my problem is I am also new to Ubuntu and jumping in an out of terminal sessions is no where near what I grew up with in Slackware.

Fedora Hardware :: Kernel (or X?) Which Video Card To Use?

Feb 11, 2010

I have a pretty cool problem. The laptop computer is an Asus UL50VT which has two video cards: an onboard intel Mobile 4 Series Chipset with Integrated Graphics Controller, and an NVidia GeForce G210M. The concept behind having two video cards is that the onboard chip can be used when graphics aren't required (email, programming, etc.), but the NVidia can be used when you need the graphics horsepower. This allows you to maximize battery life. The system came with Windows 7.

I can (now) get X to start by monkeying with the xorg.config file, but it doesn't run well and is getting bogged down. My (uneducated) guess is that if I could clearly make certain that I'm using intel drivers and the intel "card," or better the nvidia drivers and the nvidia card, it would run better. I'd love to be able to set them up in such a way that I can switch them (two different xorg.conf files with a scipt that allows me to select what I want, for instance), but I need to get to first base first and get something working well. So, how can I tell what the system is actually using for drivers AND devices? And, how can I dictate which it is to use?

Debian Hardware :: Kernel Modules - Four Drivers Loaded For Video Card

Mar 10, 2011

0 down vote favorite
share [fb] share [tw]
This is the problem I run lspci -v which checks all drivers on my system and more. It says kernel driver in use is nouveau. Then under that it says kernel modules: nvidia recent, nvidia-96, nouveau, nvidiafb. So what it looks like I have 3-4 drivers for my video card loaded and one, nouveau, being used. I think they conflict with each other.

I'm trying to add drivers other then nouveau, because the mouse freezes with it. At this point I can't seem to get rid of nouveau, I go to terminal and type:
sudo apt-get --purge remove xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
And it says that it's not loaded so I can't dump it. lspci-v says nouveau is the driver being used and trying to dump it. It says it isn't installed. I'm confused. I want to dump nouveau, what should I do? I also go into Synaptic package manager and it isn't listed as being installed.

Debian Hardware :: Video Card - Failed To Initialize NVidia Kernel Module

Aug 9, 2011

I am trying to get my Debian system running. I have an older Dell Precision 490 with two dual core CPUs. It has 16G Ram, an 150G Intel solid state drive, a 230G data drive, and a 600G backup drive. I have two Samsung monitors attached to the NVIDIA Geforce FX 5xx card. I have been using this machine for several years with Etch, then Lenny, running KDE 3.5. I recently needed to upgrade to Squeeze and KDE4 and have had nothing but problems since. I keep having issues with the video drivers, every time I touch anything the drivers seem to upgrade from the legacy 173 to the current 195.

There have been other library compatibility issues as well (gclib) and the machine has not been stable. This morning the system was running very slowly with X running at 100% (from top) and then the entire system froze. After a hard reboot, X did restart. The Xorg.0.log has the following message:
"Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module! Please ensure that there is a supported NVIDIA GPU in this system, and that the NVIDIA device files have been created properly..."

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Reinstalling Generic Video Drivers?

Oct 15, 2010

uestion by saying that I don't know anything about how video drivers work under Ubuntu or Linux in general.My situation is as follows: I have installed Ubuntu on a portable hard drive for use on multiple computers, so as such, I chose not to install drivers for a specific video card as I can't be sure of the hardware of the computers I will be using it on. Everything was working fine, but while setting some wine games up, I have managed to "break" my video drivers/video config so now some games give me an error. I have been told that the quickest way to get rid of this error is to reinstall video drivers, but I am lost, as I can't find out what drivers, if any, I have installed. So my question is: how could I go about resetting the configuration and generic drivers that came with the Lucid?

Slackware :: Switch To The Generic Kernel?

Jun 15, 2011

One thing I always do is switch to the vmlinuz-generic(-smp) kernel in /etc/lilo.conf and build an initrd (see /boot/README.initrd for details). The "huge" kernel used by default is only meant for installing and not recommended for everyday use. It has a lot of drivers you don't need built-in and uses more RAM than the "generic" kernels.

still trying to find my feet and get to know Slackware. In one of my previous threads, 'things to do after installing' i was told the above message. When i installed, it used the huge kernel, but i'm unsure if that was the one that got installed. when i start slackware up, above the login screen it say, wecome to Linux 2.6.37.6-smp (tty1) I was wondering how to swich to the generic smp kernel, do I just change the vmlinuz to the desired, in lilo?
