I'm trying to run/use the Intel GMA 4500 on my Debian Linux (Lenny), but I'm having some problems. I just can't find the drivers and the default installation does not install the correct driver.

And I got a black screen. Installation media (DVD) is healthy.
Somehow my video driver got deleted and now all i can access is a terminal and no gui. how do i reinstall my video driver?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Asus 54G43-Pro mobo with Intel GMA G43 video chip on it. It works fine in Ubuntu and using the same display with the same settings, under Maverick in comparison with Lucid, the video is a little more sharp and with more contrast. I have dual boot with Windows and in Windows it is even less sharp and contrast.
In Windows I can tune the sharpness, contrast, etc but I was not able to find a simlar features in Ubuntu. I have checked the Synaptic and even installed some Intel GMA files but I still have no access on tuning the video driver. Is this possible in Ubuntu and possible to be hidden somewhere or I can just forget about it?
I have an integrated intel video and latest xserver-xorg-video-intel driver(using only stable repo). Now I wanna watch high-res video. From the bits of info collected from all over internet I understood that I need to:
1.aptitude install libdrm libva.
2.compile or find the .deb mplayer-vaapi and install it.
3.add -vo vaapi -va vaapi to the mplayer command line in gnome-mplayer.
My question : is that correct or did I miss something? Do I have to compile latest libdrm and libva or the ones from the squeeze repo will be good? Do I need kms enabled, i.e. install firmware-linux-nonfree?
I cant install or do to work the compiz...

Perhaps someone has run across this problem I loaded CentOS 5.3 on an AOpen MP45-BDR workstation. It uses the Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset for the video graphics. It is officially identified as: GM45 chipset (Intel GMA X4500 MHD).
There are two problems. Using the "intel" video driver, the X11 server does not appear to support digital video cable (DVI interface). It is also stuck in 1024x768 resolution and I want it to display in 1280x1024 resolution. Using a DVI cable, the system boots and displays properly (GRUB and boot messages) until the X11 server starts, then the signal is lost. The system is configured with a dual boot (Windows XP Pro) and Windows operates properly and supports all of the features of the video graphics chipset (DVI and full resolution). So the hardware is ok.
The "intel" video driver has a description of "Experimental ..." so maybe there is an update to this driver or a replacement driver that supports this chipset. I checked the buglist and found CentOS bug ID 2951 which is somewhat similar. The user was utilizing the "intel" video driver and it locked his system but changing the driver to i810 was a work-around. My system does not lock. I did try the i810 video driver but the X server did not like it - it would not start. This makes sense since the description of this driver specifies support for the older Intel onboard chipsets.

Here goes the problem: I have a Amilo M7400 notebook with an Intel 82852/82855 GME video card, and X is a bit uncompatible with it.I've tried using the vesa driver in the xorg.conf, but when i start Xserver, it hangs hard in a blank screen. I can't open a new terminal and control+alt+backspace won't work.
what can i do? is there a log file for X which details the initialization of it?
Feel stuck between Debian and BSD worlds - not sure where to turn.
Running GNU/kFreeBSD debian 8.1-1-amd64 and base system working. Can not get X or xrandr to co-operate and use proper resolution of 1680x1050. I believe the basis of this is that it using the VESA drivers and instead should be using the INTEL drivers.
I have no 'pkg_add' for ports, plus obviously no Debian repos will help for this .... unless there are some specific kFreeBSD repos I dont know about? I can post more details on the system, but am hoping that there are other options besides compiling. I can do that if need be, but not even sure which one to use. Will these work on this system? View 2 Replies View RelatedBuilt a machine w/ i5-4440 & gtx 960. I installed xserver-xorg-video-intel & xserver-xorg-video-nouveau. Xorg -configure fails, so I added xorg.conf I found online, makes no difference. xrandr can't open display. startx of course fails.
Backstory: My plan was to dual boot sid + stable as fallback with shared partition. First installed stable and whether connected to mobo or gfx card, I couldn't get login on tty, it would just hang on errors. So I installed sid (this time using lvm to hopefully make partitioning easier) and while I get the "failed to load nouveau" errors on mobo, gfx card gives me a login screen.

With the upgrade to Squeeze and the 2.6.32-5-686 kernel, my Dell GX260's 82845 video chip suffers from the documented intel driver bug (freezes within a few minutes). I tried to fall back to the vesa driver, but am only able to get 640x480 resolution. The monitor is an LG L1720P.
I turned off kernel mode setting (via /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf), and modified xorg.conf -- added Modeline entries (from gtf) and
additional Mode lines to try to force resolution. Relevant portions of xorg.conf, dmesg and Xorg.0.log are shown below.

I have installed xubuntu 10.04 on a HP Pavilion dv1049ea and am having trouble installing the drivers for the graphics card. When installing i had to use the boot option -xforcevesa in order to get the screen working. Now that it is installed there is constant screen flicker but apart from that all other aspects of the system are working fine. In the display menu i am unable to change the refresh rate. How do i change the running driver from vesa to the correct intel driver? The graphics card is an Intel Graphics 82852/82855.

I installed debian 5.06 on my Mac ibook g3, I had the same problem, the interface is only on a portion of the screen (about 70% x 70%) of the size of the screen.The screen is configured for 800x600, there is no another resolution, so I suppose I need another driver.here is the lspci output ; vga compatible controller : ATI technologies Inc Rage Mobility M3 AGP 2x (rev 02). secondly, If i couldn't install linux on this mac, can I retrive or reinstall ? the mac OS ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just purchased an Acer Aspire V5-123 notebook with AMD processor and graphic and installed Debian 7.6 (stable) on it. first of all, I had to install a newer (3.14.0.bpo.1-amd64) kernel image to get the ethernet card working. Then, I got problem with Xorg not starting.
Here is the error lines from /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

I installed the libgl1-mesa-dri, xserver-xorg-video-ati, and firmware-linux-nonfree packages, as suggested by AtiHowTo from Debian Wiki, but the problem still persists and the last one (firmware-linux-nonfree) actually caused the notebook to freeze on boot. so, I removed it.
Just used Synaptic to update my video driver for the XFX RADEON R250x. It was working before when I had installed the drivers from the AMD site. But I was told I needed to use the kernel compatible, so I did this update. Now it boots up and hangs with blank screen where it would usually go to login. I've got a boot disc where I can boot into and we can look at the logs ....

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm really new to Linux (meaning that I never programmed or anything) but have a major issue here: I have been using Ubuntu since 9.04 (always upgrading) and always with this Laptop, without problems. Then I installed 10.10, didn't like it and downgraded to 10.04. Thats when the issue came up. So now I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and have an Intel GMA 4500 graphic card. That, though, is all I know about the graphics on my Laptop.
The problem:Every now and then (mostly right after logging in, then randomly) my monitor will flicker quickly and then go black completely.
After I close the laptop and open it up again, the screen works fine for some seconds, then, without moving anything, it goes black again. Sometimes it just stays normal, too. Just changing the angle of the monitor doesn't help, only closing it completely and opening it.
1) It could be the cable loop.BUT: The issue only appears after logging on to Linux. And moving the monitor doesnt help, just closing it completely.
2) Graphic driver.I have no idea how the software part of Linux works considering graphics. I have read that many people have had problems with GMA 4500, so my hope is that it can be fixed.
I would like to configure the button of my printer officejet 4500. However I do not manage to use scanbuttond daemon. How to test key pressing? It seems that nothing is seen by scanbuttond ... when I manually press a key on the printer.

If I take out the existing video card and put in another one of a different type (but not a different brand), how does Ubuntu behave? I know what Windows typically does. Windows starts up the screen using a default video driver which is at least 1024 by 768 and then asks you what this new bit of hardware is and asks where the drivers are. I'm pretty sure Ubuntu has default drivers of its own, but I don't know what their resolution is.

Now every time I boot Win XP, the Internet Explorer menu bar is all blacked out and goofy. If I log out and back in it corrects itself. If I reboot it's blacked out again. Re-installed IE8. Still blacks out.Also Firefox in Win XP crashes expectantly. It has NEVER crashed on me previously.
