I'm using Ubuntu 10.04, and I have an HP D1660 printer. The printer has already been added, and HPLIP is installed. I can't get anything to actually come out of the printer, even though I can send a job to the printer. Does this have anything to do with CUPS?
Here are some of the last error log messages after using the printer troubleshooter (I only included some because it's a long list):
I have a parallel port printer connected using usb->parallel adapter. Sometimes the printer prints sometimes it doesn't.
A job will go the print queue and then sit there for ages. Sometimes if I unplug and then replug the usb->parallel cable the printer will print other times it will print half the document then freeze until the cable was unplugged and replugged again.
The printer never shows up in the list using lsusb (only my usb mouse and scanner do).
The printer is an hp deskjet 690c and worked fine under WinXP through a normal parallel cable. The one thing I haven't tested (but will test tomorrow) is the usb->parallel cable in XP.
I have my Epson C46 working on my Ubuntu 9.10 machine, my XP machines are showing the printer as ready and will send a test page to the Ubuntu printer but it doesn't arrive at Ubuntu - doesn't show in the print job list on Ubuntu but does in XP??
File sharing is now working in both directions.
I have an HP J4680 all in one that, for some reason, does not process the print job immediately when I send it. When I open my printer's properties it will list the printer's state as idle and when I go into the print que it tells me the job is scheduled for . . . (some time) which is, I think, about 5 min later by the clock on the task bar. I've been all over the settings and don't see anything that looks like it applies to that. Usually I've been restarting the printer and computer and then it will print when I send the job. Tonight I waited until the time and it did print according to the scheduled time. I need to find a way to always have it print right when I send the job.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have an HP F4135 printer which has worked fine for at least 2 years, now, but it has started acting up since installing Ubuntu on our computers.
We had been running Windows XP on the computer to which the printer was connected, but ever since we "upgraded" to Ubuntu the printer has been printing green in place of black whenever using it to print any sort of document from Firefox. This isn't black mixed with green; it's a bright, lime green.
For some reason, it works fine when it's printing something directly from the computer's hard drive, like a document, .pdf file, etc. It's only when printing from Firefox that it starts messing up, whether it be a file opened temporarily from a website or the direct contents of a web page.
We've tried adjusting the printer settings and the only thing that makes a difference is changing the Printout Mode from Normal (Color Cartridge) to Normal Grayscale (Black Cartridge). This seems to be the only thing to stop it from printing in green, but that really isn't a good fix, since it makes all the other colors turn to black, which isn't really fixing the problem.
All seems well in Ubuntu printer setup and drivers. Cups, hpijs hplip etc., system finds printer and sets it up and from system/administration/printing the printer shows up with the right description Hp deskjet d2600 on local host. when I try to print I get message "started job" and another message "finished job" but nothing prints. The log Var/log/cups/error_log shows only one thing that I think is wrong "cupsd authorize:no authentication data provided". my user name john and one other Andy (I installed) show up in lp group. I could attach the whole error_log file if it would help. I am new to Linux but love it. I used Windows NT for years. I am the administrator on the box. Don't know what to try next.

Nothing has been installed unless it came through slackpkg, and yes it is still on the correct setting for arch and revision. CUPS shows printer as installed, accepting jobs an idle. No error messages are appearing but nothing is reaching the printer. The info I can glean is from the error logs in CUPS:

I have successfully gotten my Canon MX300 Printer to work with CUPS. The printer works great, but for some reason it prints out white lines incredibly slow. The printer acts as if it is printing out actual text, e.g. if I have half a page of empty space, it prints it line by line for some reason... Anyone know what may cause this? I know that CUPS is not ideal with all printers, but it did not do this at first actually.

Whenever I try to print from one of the clients, the printer will click on and whiz away, but only prints on the first page stuff that looks like this:

It seems to me that the printer isn't processing the postscript data properly (or I'm just not sending it in the right format) but I'm at a loss as to how to go about fixing it.
I have an HP Printer which prints black horizontal lines after each line or colors an entire blank line black, so a blank page will come out all black. Others who have access to the Printer are able to print well, without any problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an HP printer for my Lenny which has worked for some year. But I don't remember what method I used to install it. So this is one piece of the puzzle that I can't see. But like I said the printer works. One day I accidentally printed more than I had papers in the printer-machine. Then I kind of stacked a lot of print jobs in the queue out of frustration. So whenever I reboot the PC/Lenny then it waste some paper by printing things that got stuck in the printer queue. It's not very environmental this weird behavior.
So next time this happens how do I flush the Printer queue so Lenny doesn't remember what happened before the reboot? I followed these instructions earlier but it only switched one weird behavior with another weird behavior. So it didn't work for my Lenny, and I couldn't find any better solutions on the Internet. I just installed a Brothers HL2170W printer on my desktop which is running Ubuntu 1004 I had no problem with the install and it is working. The problem is when I send a page to print it takes 5 minutes before it prints. Does anyone know if this is normal or if there is a fix. I have the printer connected with a USB cable.

The one I built didn't have one anyway so I bought a PCI-express card with a port, a cheap one with a printer port, nothing more.OpenSUSE 11.1 sees the card somehow and "lspci" says it's aCode:Parallel controller: Oxford Semiconductor Ltd Device c110"hwinfo --printer" does not see it at all, whatever that may mean?I have connected my old inkjet to it and configured the queue same way it used to be on the old computer but nothing ever comes out on the printer. View 5 Replies View RelatedMy elderly HP Laserjet 4P has worked well for over 15 years. I have it connected to the home network via a Trendnet TE100-P21 Print Server, and setup has always been straightforward and easy. The whole setup has worked quite well with Fedora 9 or 10 thru 14, but then stopped working within the last couple of weeks. I'm assuming an update broke something, as I can find no other reason. When I send a print job or test page, I get a Print Error dialog. The print que shows a "stopped" status for the job. In the Error dialog I use the Diagnose button and step through until I get the Status Messages dialog, which informs me: "The printer's state message is: 'Data file sent successfully'".
Then I enable debugging and send a test page. Stepping through the dialogs it tells me it cannot detect a problem, and gives me an error log, which I've attached. The Trendnet server has a web admin interface. In that interface I can send a test page successfully. Also, I can open a VirtualBox (Windows XP) in Fedora 14, and successfully print from it. My print setup in Fedora is the same as it has been for several years now, and nothing has changed on that end. I have rebooted Fedora and the Trendnet server. All other computers/OS's on the network have no problem printing, only this Fedora 14, and only recently.

I'm struggling on installing a KONICA-MINOLTA printer magicolor 4695MF printing properly with Linux Mint Debian Edition (up to date). The test page works fine...
KONICA-MINOLTA delivers 2 PPDs: one for standard printing and one for OpenOffice printing (available on the KONICA-MINOLTA support site).
Leaving a side the one for OpenOffice which is poor in using the capabilities of the printer, I concentrate only on the global one (M4695PX.ppd).
It's much more difficult for other applications, starting with EVINCE: some PDF files are printed properly (i.e. those generated in OpenOffice by the CUPS PDF printer), others come out as one only blank page, regardless to the original length of the document.
So documents received from 3rd party may be "printable" or not. And trust Murphy, the most critical aren't printed...

Since I changed my System from openSUSE 11.3 x86_64 to openSUSE 11.4 x86_64 my printer (Samsung ML-2850 via USB) seizes to function (clean installation). The printer connects to two machines via a KVM-switch. On the other machine (Windows 7 x64/Windows XP x64) the printer is working fine. This did not change when I switched the Cables/KVM-ports. In addition, when I was using openSUSE 11.3 x86_64 the printer also worked fine. All necessary CUPS-packages are installed:

I'm having a problem trying to set up my HP OfficeJet 6310 printer with Fedora 12. This is with a clean install, SELinux disabled and Seems to be some issue specific to Fedora, as I've used the same setup with the same hardware without problems in other distributions. I have installed all the HP files I believe should be installed. Anyway, my printer is on my wireless network. I can see the printer on the network, as is the case with my other computers.
I followed the standard setup I use with any other distro....open a terminal and enter "hp-setup." The HP Setup utility opens and I go through the standard procedure of choosing /Network/Ethernet" as my means of connecting. Moving on, the HP OfficeJet 6310 is found without a problem. When I attempt to "Add Printer," however, I am then getting an error. The error shows, "Printer Queue Setup Failed. Restart CUPS and try again." Looking at [URL], I get to CUPS but can get nothing there so far as a printer goes.
I installed SuSE 11.2 64-bit on a new computer without any printer attached. When I read the manual for the mainboard, I discovered to my delight that it actually has a parallel port, it's just not connected. I moved the cable from an old desktop and put it into my new desktop. After enabling the port in the BIOS setup, the Hardware Information dialog in yast correctly shows that I have a HP LaserJet 1100 (/dev/lp2).
How do I configure the printer? "Printer" in yast tells me "There is no print queue". When I click "Add" yast tries to detect a printer and gives up with the message "No connection selected". I can't add a selection, however. "More connections" gives me the exact same error message. The "Connection Wizard" allows me to select "Parallel Port", but then complains about missing connections again. The cups demon is running. I don't have /dev/lp2, is that the problem?
is it possible to get the length or even the items of both queues, the run queue and the swap queue? I've googled a lot but had no luck. Maybe I havn't used the correct search words...
Is there any header and/or code example to use structures or any API to get these information from the kernel or the scheduler?
Our one remaining problem seems to be printing. She has an HP OfficeJet 6500 USB printer. We have the computer conntected. Strangely, when I boot from the CD the printer shows up as installed even though I did nothing to install it. After having submitted a print job it shows the printer status as "idle" and the print queue is empty. I tried deleting that printer and re-installing. The installation went as one would expect. However the results are the same. I'm beginning to think that somehow the problem is related to the fact that we are operating from the live CD. getting this thing to print from the live CD.

When i connect the printer, Debian doesn't recognize my printer as the Photosmart B109 printer for unknown reason. When i go to the site of HP and search for a driver, it directs me to this site:I've downloaded that latest hplip file as a .run file and installed it. My printer is recognized proparly, but when i try to print a colored image, it comes out black/white. Something is not crrect. Does anyone recognize this problem with this type HP printer?

I installed Ubuntu with the Swedish Eliminate Dead Keys layout as my standard layout. On my own user account I changed the keyboard layout to Swedish Dvorak. I removed the Swedish Eliminate Dead Keys layout on my account. So far so good. But on every login Ubuntu adds the Swedish Eliminate Dead Keys layout again. It's a bit annoying. how to remove it?
