A cat of /proc/bus/input/devices just shows the keyboard and pc speaker. I am running the 2.6.30.9 kernel on a RHEL 5.4 system. The stock kernel works fine. I have compared the kernel config files and do not see anything different in the INPUT Device area. Could it be that USB mouse driver is interfering? Is there something out side the INPUT Device section that the synaptic touchpad needs?
View 6 RepliesI am trying to make it work in a fresh Squeeze install. After installation, only the left mouse works. It seems mouse driver and not synaptics is loaded. I checked the package manager and saw xserver-xorg-input-synaptics packaged installed.
How do I load the synaptics driver and how do I verify I have it? I would like to make sure that before playing with the options.
I read that synaptic touchpads should support multitouch and as I have one of those I tried to enable it. However I wasn't successful.
After some digging in config files (I had to enable SHMConfig) I ended up with KDE configuration tool which is really cool but all multitouch options are there disabled. And also there is an information which says that only one finger is detected by this touchpad.
Is something wrong or my touchpad just doesn't support multitouch? I got this laptop 1.5 years ago so it's not very old.

I'm using debian testing with cinnamon. After upgrading the kernel to version 3.17.2 (but I've also tried the 3.17.3 and 4) the synaptics touchpad died, as if it doesn't exist. I can't go back to the old kernel because the new one has solved a problem about freeze during the shutdown process, so I need it. Note that even with Mint 17, after upgrading the kernel, the touchpad stopped working in the same way.I believe that the touchpad is not seen , rather than loaded .xserver-xorg-input-synaptics and multitouch are installed.$ synclient

I have an Acer Aspire 5740 with a synaptics touchpad. I have tried using the ksynaptics program as well as the touchpad settings under System Settings >> Computer Administration. My touchpad works, but it is driving me crazy with how sensitive the tap to click feature is. I want to disable it altogether so I can actually work on my computer. When I go to the touchpad section in System Settings >> Computer Administration >> Keyboard & Mouse, the tab says "Warning: Touchpad configuration is not supported on this system. The synaptics driver is either not loaded or too old. Refer to doumentation for information about the required driver version."

View 1 Replies View RelatedOne strange and little annoying issue I notice with my openSUSE 11.3 installation is my Synaptic touchpad behaves way too strange.... Dragging a window or icon - half way around - a click is generated (probably a middle click I guess) and I need to re-drag it again.... In the browser when I try to select a text - again by dragging - a middle click gets generated... The same happens when I use gvim in visual mode too - I end up pasting the code I had selected halfway because of the middle click....
Middle click can be generated only if I press both left and right click buttons - which I'm pretty sure I'm not.... I tried playing around with the touchpad settings but no good.... I'm not able to find anything related to the middle click on the settings application... My touchpad works fine in Ubuntu and was in 11.2 as well.... Yes it works fine in Xp too.
just installed debian squeeze KDE after years of ubuntu and suse.. For some reason, after I finally got both scrolling and tapping to work, I have a weird weird touchpad through my xorg.conf: - tapping on a tab in chrome closes the tab.
- tapping in a text field pastes txt that is in the clipboard, each successive click keeps pasting the same thing
- the left side of the touchpad is not enabled for vertical scrolling (?), and for some reason the directions are inverted (move finger up to scroll webpage down)
- when having multiple windows open, tapping that window will highlight it, but the previously selected window stays overtop of the now selected windows. Using the actual left click button the windows change normally.
I am running Ubuntu 11.04 i386 and I installed the unity desktop by using sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop. However when I try to open the synaptic package manager it won't recognize my password. It just keeps asking me for the administrator password. I can open update manager which also needs the admin password. This is a fresh install all I have done is installed the ubuntu desktop. I am currently trying to install KDE desktop to see if it works on there. I also have had this problem on my laptop which runs 11.04 x64 desktop edition. Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me? and is there a fix? also what is the terminal command to launch the packet manager? edit. It started working on my laptop a week or so ago after I did updates. So I'm not sure if the server version of unity or the packet manager is just behind? I have run the update manager on my server and it says its uptodate.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've just did a fresh install of Xubuntu 9.10 x86 in a 4 gig pendrive.Just one ext4 partition for / and /home and a swap partition. Only one user created during installation.Everything's fine so far except for two things:-If I launch synaptic from the start menu, it asks for my password which I type in or even copy-paste to be sure.Strangely it always comes back saying incorrect password. If I open a terminal and call "sudo synaptic" and type in my password when prompted, the application shows up fine. Again if I do the same via the Run dialog (alt+F2), that is "sudo synaptic", nothing comes up. If I just type "synaptic", a pop up says that as a user I won't be able to install anything and blah-blah, and the application displays properly

The machine is fantastic, though they insist upon installing Ubuntu on it. :-/ So I'm trying to get Fedora working. The only two snags seem to be the wireless and the touchpad. Camera and audio seem fine. The wireless was just a matter of installing iwl6000g2b-firmware. The touchpad is proving a bit more difficult. It appears to be detected just as a PS2 mouse. System 76 deal with this on Ubuntu by installing a kernel module via dkms. The source for the module is available here:

View 14 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx LTS. My laptop is an HP Pavilion TX1210AU (TX1000 series). After disabling the touchpad using the toggle button and reenabling it again, it stopped working. I tried restarting my laptop and the mouse worked again only up to the Login Screen. After logging in to my account, the mouse froze again. I tried making a new account and tried logging into it (I'm using it now) and it's now fixed. Does Ubuntu change any user settings everytime the touchpad toggle (on/off) button is switched? Maybe I could just reenable it myself.

So, the "FastTaps" part works flawlessly (as intended). However, the corners bit doesn't work after system reboot!...and weird enough, if I set up a start up script with that bit of code on it it'll only remap the last two corners (LT and LB), because RT and RB always get automatically set to "2" and "3". It's obvious then that those corners are getting remaped somewhere I haven't found yet. I've already tried ppa:yurivkhan/ppa and adding new options to "usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-synaptics.conf" to no avail either. how to make the remap of touchpad corners permanent? P.S. - I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with Macbuntu.

I have a KeySonic 2.4Ghz Wireless Keyboard with Integrated TouchPad which I am trying to get to work.
Now there are some reviews saying it works straight out the box on Linux. This was almost the case for me.
The keyboard works straight away but the touch pad doesn't work at all not even the mouse buttons

Is there a way to make the Synaptic on Debian look like Mint's? You can see how more polished Mint's looks versus Debian's 0.6.25 and 0.70. Mint's complies with GTK styling and has a nicer placement of the Quick Search and nicer toolbar icons IMO.

Anyway, I have two issues: I can't get the system to recognize any of my audio cd's, or my USB drive. I don't even get a notification that there is anything in my DVD drive. The other issue is that I am unable to go in and look at my hardware configuration from the main window. I have looked through as many paths that I could think of without killing the system, and I don't want to try anything I know nothing about.

I installed a new, clean hard drive into my old iMac G5, and decided to finally set up a linux machine, I installed Ubuntu 9.10 with the 64bit mac software, and the instal went very smooth, however now there are a few hardware issues.First, the cd/dvd drive loads disks, but the system does not recognize anything inserted, and wont play any media. Second, the built in airport card doesnt want to work either, I can see the icon for wireless at the top right of the screen and it lets me plug in my network name and security, but wont connect or see any wireless networks at all, however, ethernet works fine, and it is how I am able to get online now. Lastly, the screen is slightly shifted to the right and the far right of the screen wraps around to the left side of the screen, its not major, probably a 1/4 of an inch, but it is annoying.
I am sure these are likely driver issues, but when I go to Administration, and Hardware Drivers it does not say I need any drivers. and when I run through "system testing" it says that this version of ubuntu is not genuine, or something like that, but I just burned the install disk last night from ubuntu's website.

I have a problem with recognising my mobile phone's memory card in Ubuntu 9.10. When I plug the phone in it starts the mass storage mode, but nothing happens in the PC. I suspect that I may have deleted phone's icon from the desktop, and I don't know how to bring it back. Also the memory card doesn't appear anywhere: nor in the Places tab, nor in Media folder.The phone is Samsung U900 Soul.

Do I need to create a very small bootstrap partition or something?Just for clarification, I've tried installing to the onboard ide controller as well as the raid controller. Both installed, but failed to be picked up on boot. The system only seems to be able to boot from cd. Furthermore, I can't seem to use the CD to boot from the hard disk.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to get my system to recognize my 24" Apple LED Cinema Display (DisplayPort) with a ASRock Z68 Pro3-M motherboard (i7 2600k, 1.40 firmware) using the iGPU/DisplayPort running Ubuntu 11.04 2.6.38-10-generic with latest updates. The system boots and runs (can ssh into it) but there is no display. The same system running Windows 7 x64 works fine. A DVI monitor also works fine. Xserver-intel driver sees the display but can't set any modes for it.

my android phone doesn't seem to be recognized by the system and it's file system is vfat how did it occur while i've been using my phone as a storage device it still works yesterday but upon plugging it in the usb port it says "cannot mount volume".....

View 5 Replies View RelatedOk so I just installed Debian 7.5 on my laptop and encountered several problems.
First off was the problem with GNOME 3, GNOME 3 failed to load.
Second problem was that the system does not recognize an external monitor via hdmi. Via VGA I do not know do not have a cable to try it out.
Third problem was that my wireless was no recognized.
