I have a KeySonic 2.4Ghz Wireless Keyboard with Integrated TouchPad which I am trying to get to work.
Now there are some reviews saying it works straight out the box on Linux. This was almost the case for me.
The keyboard works straight away but the touch pad doesn't work at all not even the mouse buttons
I am running CentOS release 5.3 (Final) Kernel 2.6.18-128.el5
I would really appreciate any advice at all, I have checked the output of: cat /proc/bus/input/devices

Aug 26, 2010I have installed the LG BE08LU20 on five Centos servers during the past three months. Two HP ML115, two Dell T110 and mine which is an older Dell Dimension. All except one of the Dell T110 work fine. The BE08LU20 drive is used for 50Gb backups using mondoarchive. On the problem machine which has just been installed from scratch again, it will quite happily mount cd and dvds but not 50Gb BD-RE. I take the same BD-RE disk which it objects to and load it on my identical be08lu20 on a Dell Dimension with Centos 5.5 and it is recognized and allows writing. I swapped my working drive for the problem one but it makes no difference. The 'faulty' drive works perfectly correctly on mine. The OS is Centos 5.5 I have used the same DVD to install three machines with it. Two work including mine, but not the T110. Another customer with T110 also has a be08lu20 and mondoarchive with bd-re disks and theirs worked from the start. They have Centos 5.3 and up-to-date patches, but it should make no difference I've tried both usb and e-sata the result is the same. The centos 5.5 has kernel 2.6.18.194-el5PAE
If I load a bd-re disk in the drive and mount it - this is what I get

There was another problem with this particular machine. I could install Centos, configure Samba and join the users to the domain without a hiccup. Then in the small hours of the morning (not always the same time) it just locked up, no kbd, no mouse, no display, no disk active, no network. Only solution was switch off and it would come up again quite happily with nothing logged and run without a problem for another 20-24 hours. Dell eventually agreed to replace the motherboard. I installed Centos again from scratch. It's been fine all week. The blu-ray problem has been there from the start, and has NOT been solved by the new motherboard.
Hardware :: System Does Not Recognize Synaptic Touchpad?
Sep 10, 2010A cat of /proc/bus/input/devices just shows the keyboard and pc speaker. I am running the 2.6.30.9 kernel on a RHEL 5.4 system. The stock kernel works fine. I have compared the kernel config files and do not see anything different in the INPUT Device area. Could it be that USB mouse driver is interfering? Is there something out side the INPUT Device section that the synaptic touchpad needs?

Sep 19, 2010I can log into ubuntu using my keyboard and mouse but about 5 seconds after I hit enter my mouse quits working. Keyboard still works so I can open terminal and use all keyboard. But, if I hit the touchpad toggle button over and over again many many times in a row, the mouse will start to work and my keyboard stops. I don't know what my course of action is to fix this strange problem. It just started today.

Jun 1, 2010I've installed Netbook Remix on a partition on my Advent 4211 (MSI Wind clone) XP netbook. It is the first time I have ever used Linux, apart from abortive efforts to install various distros on an old laptop a few years ago (wifi wouldn't work).
(1) I am a touch-typist and would like to set the Shift key to RELEASE the CapsLock, as on old manual and electric typewriters, which is how my other Windows keyboards are set to operate, but the nearest option (out of so many ) in Ubuntu seems to be "Pause CapsLock", which is no good.
(2) I need to DISABLE the touchpad - the nearest option seems to be "Disable while typing" - inadequate for me, trailing thumbs are causing havoc I like this OS (it seems especially neat with the latest Chrome) but those two "shortcomings" are constant nuisances.

All other function keys work, except for this one. The only thing I can find is to permanently disable the touchpad, which is not what I want to do.

Jul 31, 2011I was trying to tweak my video card's performance by configuring the xorg.conf file. There were many lines unrelated to the card there; so, to make the file cleaner, I decided to delete all the sections except the one I was dealing with. Obviously I shouldn't have done that. After rebooting the system, all the hardware that provided human interface stopped working. Now I have to find a way to delete that xorg.conf file. The computer is still connecting to the internet, and I have another computer running Debian available. Is there a way to access the broken computer with the other one?

Apr 13, 2011on my netbook I have a Debian unstable/sid system. A few days ago I did an apt-get (dist-)upgrade which I think also updated the X-Server. Since then my netbooks keyboard and touchpad are not working as soon as the desktop is started (I think gdm).
The Keyboard works during the Grub selection and also in recovery mode (Root Terminal), so I'm sure its not a hardware problem. Could it be that the X-Server unloads the kernel modules for those two devices?Also if I plug in a USB keyboard or mouce they are working.
Debian Hardware :: ATI Proprietary Drivers Broke Touchpad And Keyboard?
May 5, 2010I have a big problem after i installed the ATI proprietary drivers. I expected something weird to happen when using proprietary stuff, but I did not expect them to stop my touchpad from functioning
I've been running sid on that laptop for ages and followed the guide on the Debian wiki and installed: "apt-get install linux-headers-2.6-$(uname -r | sed 's,.*-,,') fglrx-control fglrx-driver". This worked like a charm and the module got compiled OK. I then rebooted the computer (couldn't restart Xorg, the screen went black for some reason, but that's not the issue here) but when the kernel started it dumped a lot of udev errors concerning libsane. It booted up OK though, but when i tried to log in i couldn't use my keyboard or my touchpad. My external keyboard and mouse worked, but i had to disconnect them and connect them again to get them working. I suspect that the laptop keyboard and touchpad are connected by usb internally, but they are tricky to disconnect and reconnect
I then did a "apt-get remove" on all those packages installed and also an "apt-get install --reinstall" on the kernel. But I still have the same problem. I suspect that dkms did something bad, but I can't figure out what to remove or reinstall to get around this problem. I also tried to remove libsane, since udev dumped a lot of error messages, but I don't understand what the connection is there (except of course that udev is used for the keyboard and touchpad)
I also don't suspect the "unstableness" of sid to be the problem here. Rather something I haven't removed or reinstalled.
Does anyone have an idea about what I can do to revert this? I really don't want to reinstall the laptop.
Edit: Just, to sum it up. The real question here is: "How do I get rid of all the mess that ATI proprietary driver caused and installed?"

I also want to purchase the Rapoo 2900 Touch Slim Wireless Keyboard with TouchPad to use on this system. Any recommendations or opinions with this type of wifi keyboard using any Linux distro? I was thinking of using a Debian based distro (aptosid, Ubuntu) but not sure what the wifi/hardware support is like when it comes to drivers?

Ubuntu :: GRUB Wont Recognize Usb Keyboard?
Mar 23, 2010It worked fine for awhile, but recently my usb keyboard wont work, ONLY IN GRUB. So I cant use grub to select another boot option. This kbd does work in Ununtu and on my other XP machine. Old version of Grub, I believe. (not GRUB 2). No error messages displayed.

Jul 19, 2010I have a mini tower that started life using only Windows XP, I converted it to dual boot Umbuntu 10.04 and Windows XP. So far, so good, since I was using a ps2 mouse and keyboard. My problem started when I converted to wireless keyboard and mouse.....the bios recognizes the keyboard, both operating systems recognize the keyboard and mouse....BUT!!, the grub loader recognizes neither. Now, I can get around this problem by 1. letting Umbuntu load by default or unplugging the USB connection device for the keyboard and mouse and replugging my old ps2 keyboard long enough to boot to the system that I want to use.

Jan 29, 2011I have dual boot (winxp) which has been working for over a year now.But for some reason recently, grub wont recognise the keyboards arrow keys. ie cant change menu selection. in fact it wont recognise keyboard at all it seems. Pressing enter wont work either. I have to wait for the timeout.
The arrows work before hand (like in bios settings) and after once ubuntu has booted. Just not in the grub menu
Its something to with the USB wireless keyboard. If i replace it for standard PS2 kybd it works.
Slackware :: Unable Tap To Click On Touchpad?
Jul 11, 2010Just installed Slackware 13.1 and I'm trying to disable tap to click on my touchpad. When I run "synclient MaxTapTime=0" it turns off. But the next time I restart X, the settings won't hold. I tried putting Option "MaxTapTime" "0" in xorg.conf, but it didn't work. This is my mouse portion from xorg.conf generated from the nvidia driver from slackbuilds.

CentOS 5 Hardware :: CentOS 5.2 And 5.3 Does Not Recognize Device On IDE IT8213 Controller?
Apr 3, 2009I have had a Supermicro X7DCL-3 motherboard based machine, running CentOS 5.2 x86_64, recently upgraded to 5.3.Strangely enough, although I must have installed the 5.2 using DVD disk, the running system does not show the DVD drive. The machine was not used very much so I noticed that only today, after the update. There is no trace of it in 'dmesg', thera are no /dev/cd* and/or /dev/dvd* devices. The IDE controller is IT8213 (as shown by 'lspci'). In 5.2 kernel (2.6.18-92.el5-x86_64) lspci says "unknown device". I have checked the /usr/src/kernels/*/.config files and both kernels (5.2 and 2.6.18-128.el5-x86_64 of 5.3) seam to have the support for that controller added into the kernel:CONFIG_BLK_DEV_IT821X=yAny idea why it is not working? The Supermicro has apparently noticed this also as their OS compatibility chart lists the IDE interface for that motherboard as supported up to RHEL 5.1 but not for 5.2.

Jun 24, 2009I have a copy of the DVD Iso for centos 5.3. I downloaded the updated packages to the Centos directory and then ran the repomanage perl script to remove the old files from the directory. I then ran the createrepo and the new iso image with the script code below.

I am using VMWare to test the build, so I have the cd pointing to the iso image. I get the CentOS to start up find and dandy asking the questions for the interactive boot. It gets thru the stage of checking dependencies and then when it starts to copy down the image to the "harddrive" that is when the problem occurs.
One of the updated files is file-4.17-15.el5_3.1.i386.rpm (file-4.17-15.el5.i386.rpm was removed using repomanage), but the loader is looking for the removed file. I've looked thru any dependencies, but nothing specific for the removed file, all are asking for /usr/bin/file with no specific version numbers. I have run a rpm -test on all the rpms, but haven't been able to look thru that to see if there is a specific request for the version.
I did try this, but it just moved on to the next file. I did not replace the file version, but then it found another problem that was the same as this, the updated file is in the repo, but it is requesting the old version. I looked thru the fileslist and others to see if maybe that was the problem, but they were updated to the new versions.

May 7, 2010I am running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx LTS. My laptop is an HP Pavilion TX1210AU (TX1000 series). After disabling the touchpad using the toggle button and reenabling it again, it stopped working. I tried restarting my laptop and the mouse worked again only up to the Login Screen. After logging in to my account, the mouse froze again. I tried making a new account and tried logging into it (I'm using it now) and it's now fixed. Does Ubuntu change any user settings everytime the touchpad toggle (on/off) button is switched? Maybe I could just reenable it myself.

Dec 23, 2010I have an Acer Aspire 5740 with a synaptics touchpad. I have tried using the ksynaptics program as well as the touchpad settings under System Settings >> Computer Administration. My touchpad works, but it is driving me crazy with how sensitive the tap to click feature is. I want to disable it altogether so I can actually work on my computer. When I go to the touchpad section in System Settings >> Computer Administration >> Keyboard & Mouse, the tab says "Warning: Touchpad configuration is not supported on this system. The synaptics driver is either not loaded or too old. Refer to doumentation for information about the required driver version."
