Hardware :: Shell Not Properly Visible On A Samsung LCD?
Feb 14, 2011
In our classroom we have a Samsung series 4 LCD Monitor (don't know the exact size but i think its > 32"). It is used as a secondary display and it is connected to a computer running Red Hat 6. When our teacher uses the GUI, it runs perfectly fine on the desktop monitor and the LCD monitor that is fixed on the wall, but when the terminal is opened it shows fine on the desktop monitor but on the Samsung LCD the output is cropped. I mean the left part of the terminal where the hostname and the shell prompt is displayed is not visible properly.
P.s. Also there seems to be a new problem with the display. Previously we used Red Hat 5.5 and the LCD monitor produced colors accurately. Now we have switched to Red Hat 6 and there seems to be a yellowish tinge to all the colors. Even the white font on the terminal looks like yellow! Is this a driver error? If so how can it be fixed.
Im on an inspiron 5100 laptop and i wanted to try out the new GNOME shell and every time i launch it it takes a long time then does not display correctly at all. forcing me to restart.
MACHINE: HP Proliant DL260G5OS: SLES 11 SP1kernel: Linux xserver 2.6.32.12-0.7-default #1 SMP 2010-05-20 11:14:20 +0200 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/LinuxIt is used as remote xserver in a LAN.I have configured /usr/lib/restricted/bin/.rbashrc with some environment variables but when the users logon in the system finally is executed $HOME/.bashrc and some environment vars are overwritten.
I am using ubuntu10.04-server 64bit AMD with fluxbox. After I ran Matlab in a shell (without GUI) the shell does not display characters anymore, but will execute any command, I just can't see the characters that I'm typing.. I use aterm and xterm, does anybody know why that is, am I missing a package?
Is there any way I can switch my desktop shell from unity to, say, gnome-shell? I can switch using other console shell I like (bash, csh, fish, etc.). Assume that there is a stable alternative desktop shell, I should be able to choose, too.
(For console shell, we goes to /etc/passwd. But for desktop, I can't find the way to config.)
I am trying to create a shell script similar to ls, but which only lists directories. I have the first half working (no argument version), but trying to make it accept an argument, I am failing. My logic is sound I think, but I'm missing something on the syntax.
Code: if [ $# -eq 0 ] ; then d=`pwd` for i in * ; do if test -d $d/$i ; then echo "$i:" code....
Is there some type of functional way to read things in the Python shell interpreter similar to less or more in the bash (and other) command line shells?
Example:
Code:
>>> import subprocess >>> help(subprocess) ... [pages of stuff to read] ...
I'm hoping so as I hate scrolling and love how less works with simple keystrokes for page-up/page-down/searching etc.
I am wondering if I can open a shell or new terminal thing from within the terminal in a unix/linux enviroment. Particularly a commandline only one where there is no GUI. Is this doable? how do I do it?
I have installed Ubuntu for a friend and find that on that installation Audio CD's are not automatically visible.
Data CD's appear fine and audio CDs are visible with some software (e.g. with RipperX) but they are not visible in the file system and cannot be played directly (e.g. with RythmBox).
With my installation of Ubuntu (also 10.4), as soon as I insert an audio-CD, I am prompted as to whether I want to open the CD with RythmBox. This does not happen with the other installation.
Does anyone have any tips here? Do audio-CD's demand that a certain package is installed for them to be visible/playable?
PS: I have recently changed the DVD-drive to a CD-drive. Do I need to re-declare the drive parameters?
I have a folder on a fat32 partition that is mounted in both os's on my system.(Ubuntu 10.4 and Win 7) When I go to windows 7 the partion is mounted but I can not find the Music Folder on the drive. When i have it booted in linux I have access to the Music folder. The last change on my system I made was I ran edna-0.6 for a day so I could stream the contents of the folder. I need to figure out how to get access to these in windows again.

I like ubuntu alright, but prefer Debian overall. Before I reinstall Debian I was wondering if during the install if the latest release would automatically recognize the Samsung ML 1665 as the latest ubuntu release did. If not, how does one get the printer installed.
On Printer installation, the ML-1740 printer is recognized, and the driver for the ML 1750 is recommended. When either test page or other page is printed, job shows in queue, then shows as completed, never gets printed. Cables look fine, Printer worked fine with F11.
I've up until recently been using Mint on my n210, but as I really liked the look of openSUSE (Gnome) I have changed to 11.3. So far I love the distro, but I am having a little issue - some fn key combinations aren't working (brightness in particular). When in Mint I was able to install a couple of programs made by Voria (from Linux On My Samsung), is there such a program for openSUSE?
I've just gotmy new phone a SamsungGT-S5230! My problem is:I can't transfer any file from my ubuntu desktop over to my phone. On the CD it came with there is only a windows software called "PC Studio" and Windows drivers. As I plug in the phone via USB to the PC it offers 3 options: PC Studio, Media Storage, Background Storage. If I pick one of the first 2 options my phone says it is connected, and charges via USB. The third option says "Please Insert a MicroSD card". (I don't have such at home). Ubuntu can't see my phone, none of the options seem to work. Maybe I should buy a MicroSD card? Or is there a workaround for the windows software to run ubder Linux? I tried to install t with WINE, but it froze during the installation.
I am trying to install Ubuntu 9.10 on a Samsung Q1 Tablet PC but it reaches a point when the screen becomes smokey and then after a few seconds gets black, forcing me to abort.
I have just purchased the Samsung N150 net-book. The reason for purchasing was so I could watch movies, listen to music and browse on the go. It came with windows 7 starter and a load of pre installed Samsung crap. I was wondering whether Ubuntu would be a better choice for me since I only really want, Chrome, VLC, Spotify, MSN and Dev++ compiler.
I am very computer literate doing programming at Uni, but have not used Linux before. Also there's loads of Samsung software for extending battery life or something. Will I be able to install that on Ubuntu or not?
I bought a new printer from SAMSUNG ML2245 Model. In my system (fedora12), I could not print anything. Then I found that this model samsung ML2245 does not exist in the list box. And I tried to use generic printer, that is also failed. How to install the driver for this model?
I have a 650Gb HDD usb drive that I wish to use with ubuntu 10.04LTS aswell as on a WINXP system. HDD is clean. My ubuntu system has a /home partition formatted to EXT3, but as I use IFDRIVE to read this partition from windows, it needs to be set to have inode of 128 eg (mkfs.ext3 /dev/sdb1 -i 128)
my way of thinking is I need to partition the drive, format the drive to EXT3 making sure that is set inode to 128 How do is the best way to do this?
Then I need to get ubuntu to talk to this drive when I plug it in How do I do this?
How do I install my Samsung SCX-4623FW/XAA multipurpose B&W Laser printer in Ubuntu Linux via USB cord on my 5-6 year old Dell desktop?
