How can I correct the problem, maybe which live disk is better to correct such errors?
Consulted similar threads but couldn't find a solution for my problem as I'm booting from livecd and others were giving solution as if one can directly access the installation on hard disk, but whenever I try with ubuntu livecd it access live installation.

It was my long-time plan, but I have not started it yet as HDD worked fine till last week. I should mention that when I tried to connect it to mother board via IDE , Fedora read some errors. When I do it through USB, the indicator on HDD box is red, perhaps, stating the mistake.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've got a new machine with an Nvidia GeForce 210 graphics card with HDMI output. I'm trying to get sound to go out that HDMI cable, but although the device shows up on lspci, I can't get it acknowledged by aplay -l, which lists the audio devices known to the audio driver.
lspci shows (in part): 00:14.2 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)01:00.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation High Definition Audio Controller (rev a1) The first is the motherboard audio, and it works fine. The second (I assume) is the graphics card with HDMI. But aplay -l lists only the motherboard analog and S/PDIF outputs:

I can't see how I'm going to select a device that the drivers think isn't there. how to make that device visible to the sound drivers? I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 with a 2.6.32 stock kernel. The Nvidia driver version is 195.36.24.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm travelling currently so the last network i connected successfully to was my home wpa-psk network. I hadn't tried anything until i got to my accommodation that is an open network (that I'm on now on the Win7 partition on my laptop).
The network (and a similar archetypical 'linksys' open network, aswell as some protected local networks are correctly displayed in network-manager and upon selection, it happily spins around to its hearts content for a while before saying 'no chance boy'.
/var/log/syslog spills out the usual combination of wpa_supplicant and kernel messages, the most interesting of are that the kernel deauthentication reason 6 response. 6 apparently means class2FrameFromNonAuthStation...Client attempted to transfer data before it was authenticated.
Anyone seen anything like this? I've already tried going closer to the router to no avail. I don't remember seeing this any other time I've connected to a open AP, even if that AP is far away. (Signal strength for this AP is good, kismet says its around -57dBm, well above the threshold of -80dBm, and I've tried all the suggestions from the 'Related Questions' code...
using Ubuntu file browser, I browsed my Windows network and logged on to a Windows PC. Now Ubuntu file browser shows me "C$ on WinPC" as a folder. I can open it, read/write files, etc.But from bash prompt, I don't see anything of type CIFS/SMBFS listed in the output of "mount". Only the usual suspects (like local CDROM). How can refer to Windows files from Linux commandline?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2 motherboard with integrated graphics that shows up on lspci as an ATI Radeon 2100. I also bought a PCI-Express Nvidia graphics card so I could use the VDPAU feature on Linux (plays H.264 in hardware). The BIOS has three settings about which display to initialize first:
Integrated graphics
PCI graphics
PCI-Express graphics (PEG)
I set the BIOS on PEG, but
I cannot get anything, not even a splash screen or POST messages, to emerge from the PCI-Express graphics card. (I'm using a DVI connector; the card also has an HDMI output.)I cannot get the kernel lspci to see the graphics card; the only VGA controller it acknowledges is the integrated one.Running dmidecode acknowledges the existence of an x16 PCI Express slot, and it says
Current usage: Unknown
There is an additional BIOS setting called "Internal Graphics Mode" which is normally set to "Auto" which means it is supposed to prefer a PCI Express VGA card. I set it to "Disabled" which now means I'm getting no output at all. I will soon be learning how to do a BIOS reset!
Other information: The PCI-E card is a MSI N210-MD512H GeForce 210. This is a fanless card. Although there are no fans to see turning, the heat sink on the PCI-E card is definitely getting hot, so the card is getting some sort of power. It gets all its power from the PCI-E slot; there is no external power connector. The BIOS is an AMI Award BIOS.how can I make the PCI Express graphics card visible to Ubuntu?
I've been using Ubuntu 10.10 for just under a week. Recently, a partition called 'Data' has disappeared, and all my music and documents along with it. The folder is not to be seen in Places or on my desktop. My only way of finding it is to go to terminal. But when I try to open it there I get an error saying I don't have permission to read it. In Puppy Linux and SliTaz I can easily find the partition and read it. What should I do to bring it back in Ubuntu?

one more thing. When i booted my PC today it reported an error and process terminated before reaching the login window. So i restarted and chose recovery mode. it also reported some errors and tried to fix the problem. it deleted some files i think. and my system is working again but with above mentioned problem.
I have installed Ubuntu for a friend and find that on that installation Audio CD's are not automatically visible.
Data CD's appear fine and audio CDs are visible with some software (e.g. with RipperX) but they are not visible in the file system and cannot be played directly (e.g. with RythmBox).
With my installation of Ubuntu (also 10.4), as soon as I insert an audio-CD, I am prompted as to whether I want to open the CD with RythmBox. This does not happen with the other installation.
Does anyone have any tips here? Do audio-CD's demand that a certain package is installed for them to be visible/playable?
PS: I have recently changed the DVD-drive to a CD-drive. Do I need to re-declare the drive parameters?
I have a folder on a fat32 partition that is mounted in both os's on my system.(Ubuntu 10.4 and Win 7) When I go to windows 7 the partion is mounted but I can not find the Music Folder on the drive. When i have it booted in linux I have access to the Music folder. The last change on my system I made was I ran edna-0.6 for a day so I could stream the contents of the folder. I need to figure out how to get access to these in windows again.

View 2 Replies View RelatedUbuntu 10.04 I removed the Me Menu from the panel and then put it back (right click -> Add to Panel -> Indicator Applet Session). The Me Menu came back, but my name is not on the panel. When the Me Menu came back it was just a small blank on the panel next to the Power Button. There was no name, no icon, no nothing to tell me that was the Me Menu. In fact, I only accidentally found it when I happened to click in that blank space. I checked to see if there was any sort of Preferences setting for the Me Menu so I could get it to display my name for me to click on (like it did before), but could not see a setting like that. How can I make the Me Menu to be more visible than just a blank spot on the panel?
