Hardware :: HP Multifunction Printer That Works Well Out Of The Box?
Jan 14, 2011
I am looking for a HP Multifunction Printer that works well out of the box with Linux. I have been to the printer tables and seen the host of HP printers that work, but I would like to hear from someone who has recent experience.

I am using Lucid 10.04 and don't plan to change until support is dropped. I am looking to buy a multifunction monochromatic laser printer.
I was considering Samsung SCX-4828FN or HP LaserJet M1522NF. Both have network cards and support for Linux, but I am a little leery of the Samsung's support in Lucid. Does anyone have this printer? It seems to me a better choice if it works, because the toner is quite a bit more economical and I print quite a a lot.
My only requirements are all-in-one scanner/printer, economical, network card, proven to work.

I recently installed Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) which I then promptly upgraded to 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx).
I have a canon pixma MX320 multifunction printer. I downloaded the printer/scanner drivers for linux (debian) from [URL]...asp and installed them with no problems.
The printer function works, as I managed to print a test page, but I was wondering if there was a way to test the scanner portion of my multifunction printer to make sure it works?

I have Canon MX860 Multifunction USB/Wireless printer that I am trying to add in Fedora 13. Looking under Desktop > Computer via USB connection, the printer is detected as some hardware device I can mount and unmount. However, when I am trying to add this printer via System > Administration > Printing, the printer is not detected at all nor can I add. FYI, this printer works fine in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. How I can make this printer working in Fedora 13?

I'm wondering if anyone else has this issue before I send a note off to Slackware on this.
The --current hplip package can't seem to actually complete the installation of a networked hp printer that has the printer physically plugged into the network.
The hplip app initially does detect the device, then I click next, then it says installation failed as it can't connect to the device.
Perhaps I'm doing something wrong.
I am however able to build, and run an older hplip that --current used a while back and it works splendid for adding a printer over the network.
I'm using version hplip-3.9.4b-i486-1 but I know that's not a big help to the project.

I am on Ubuntu 10.10 on Thinkpad T61p
Recently installed my office printer with the drivers provided by them(office people)
The problem is that it works fine but only with few selected applications
Adobe Reader works fine Foxit reader fails Document viewer and image viewer prints the page but doesn't fit them inside the margins and they are either cut on the edges or look ugly
Printing from browsers doesn't work either. I always have to do 'print to file' in pdf format
Then pray rigorously that the pdf print is nice and then print using Adobe reader
where to start debugging from ?

Tonight I bought an HP LaserJet 1020 on Craigslist. Installed it and printed a test page without any trouble. But when I try printing a multi-page document, it only prints the first page, and then I get a message saying it may be disconnected. It's not, but I waited a loooooong time and the successive pages didn't spit out.

I'm looking for a low cost mono laser printer that just works under Ubuntu. I know that a general 'rule of thumb' is go with HP, but that doesn't seem to be the case with their low-end mono printers, as they use the XQX Stream Protocol instead of Postscript. The more expensive HP printers appear to work because they use Postscript.

Have recently updated 10.04 with latest updates which included a new kernel and the printer no longer works. In-fact I can't even define the printer and I don't have a printer installed, the install script can't locate the printer on the USB. I have a cannon MP640.
I can print OK through windowsXP on virtualbox, printer is found OK.
Everything was fine until latest update.
Also my USB TV card doesn't work anymore, it also was OK before the update.

anybody out there with an idea for a command to make the WLAN-Printer (HP-Officejet)work again when it stops after 30 Min - 2 h.Simple stopping the print job and print again does not help. The only way for me is to stop the print job and RESTART. Then it works again 30 Min- 2 h. I use updatet lucid lynx 32.
And I need a command like "killall pulseaudio" that I need when I return from logged-on as the second user to get sound again.

I have Linux Xandros Debian software on my Asus Eee PC, and for 3 years now I have been trying to buy a Colour Scanner that works. It does not have to be a stand alone Scanner, it can also be an All-in-One. I have been told the HP has the most chance. However I bought a HP Deskjet F2280, that the salesman guaranteed would scan with Linux, but it did not. And never has. Is there anybody who also has Linux Xandros Debian and HAS found a scanner that works?

I've recently decided to switch the first of four machines on my LAN from windows to Linux (PB I Media 1gb ram, 160hdd Intel Core2 Duo 6300 1.86ghz. After a couple of weeks distro hopping I have decided that I like OpenSuse 11.4.
I have an Epson Styus SX515w connected to my router via wifi. I googled the subject and downloaded this driver from the Avasys website. epson-inkjet-printer-stylus-tx550w-series-1.0.0-1lsb3.2.i486.rpm. I checked the documentation and my model is supported. So I installed the rpm from a local directory via Yast.
Then I go into Yast > Hardware > Printers, (I have to disable the firewall first so Yast can find the printer on the LAN.) The New Printer Config Wizard shows it as Model: Epson sx510w Connection: ipd:/192.168.2.4.515/PASSTHRU Description: Epson Epson Stylus SX510w. (mine is a 515w). Anyho, Yast cannot find any matching drivers. If I click "Find More" Yast finds Epson drivers but no for my model. I've tried different search strings too.
So my question is. How do I tell Yast to use the driver I have installed?
I checked in Yast > Software and it lists the driver as installed I also ran this command in terminal user@linux-rk0o:~> rpm -qi epson-inkjet-printer-stylus-tx550w-series-1.0.0-1lsb3.2.i486
The resulting output confirms the package is installed.
Code:
Name : epson-inkjet-printer-stylus-tx550w-series Relocations: (not relocatable)
Version : 1.0.0 Vendor: Seiko Epson Corporation
Release : 1lsb3.2 Build Date: Mon 24 May 2010 10:22:43 BST
Install Date: Tue 17 May 2011 02:06:35 BST Build Host: build

So having recently set up my server (including some disk space and ushare, and an additional laserjet printer) I was wondering if anyone had any experience of putting a multifunction printer into an ubuntu server and adding it locally (to the server) then to the networked computers....I know this printer works perfectly (the scan too!) when plugged directly into a machine's USB....I suppose my real question is....does anyone know anything about the scanner side of it?? is this going to work?? I reckon the printer side will (/should - i know the printer works and i know the server can share printers.....lol) but the scanner side is relatively new (when put into the context of shared from my HS.Please note:My server is just running vanilla (plain) ubuntu 9.10....and my compo's are 10.04 and 9.10....ubuntu ONLY network...

Both PCs (ubuntu 10.04 laptop wireless, 8.10 desktop wired) connected to it can print, but not scan, since XSANE does not recognize the scanner over the network. It does hoverer both, scanning and printing, if connected with an USB cable. How can i configure xsane to recognize my RX500 over the network?

My printer is recognized proparly, but when i try to print a colored image, it comes out black/white. Something is not crrect. Does anyone recognize this problem with this type HP printer?

I am unable to add my USB printer via the YaST2 Printer Configuration setup tool in openSUSE 11.3. The printer, a Dell Color Laser 1320c, was last used with openSUSE 11.2, and setup was entirely uneventful. No driver is provided by Dell, so I used the Fuji Xerox DocuPrint C525A Linux driver. The problem: To add a print queue in 11.3, a Connection must be specified (parallel, USB, network, etc). However, the configuration wizard fails to show the presence of the USB print device.
[Code]...
This printer was working just eight weeks ago under 11.2, and 11.3 is obviously able to detect its presence and identify it correctly. I feel certain the solution is simple, but I haven't found documentation that provides the answer.

Ubuntu 10.04 and have a problem with loading the Linux printer drivers for my new Lexmark printer. When I try to load up the printer driver downloaded from the Lexmark site I am asked to enter a root administrator password, but when I enter the password I used to setup the OS it will not accept it. I have reviewed the "sudo" terminal password info, but as I am a newbie I was concerned about wrecking the installation.

I am trying to set uamsung clx2160N as a standalone network printer on my home network. It is a printer with standalone network capability and is connected directly to my router and has a static IP number. We have a few Windows computers at home and they had no problem detecting the printer, installing the drivers and working. Unfortunately my Ubuntu computer recognises the printer and I can even access it's setup and diagnositcs through its IP number. However when I try to add it as a printer, drivers for it cannot be located. #ve tried setting it up three ways:1. Using Samsung's own setup package - finds printer and all the details it needs to work but offers no drivers2. Using Ubuntu's printer setup - recognises printer but stalls at Searching for Drivers dialog3. Trying to *** printer using CUPS - no problem finding and recognising printer, but when I come to search for the driver I get Internal Server Error.
I have of course been trying to do all of these as root. That's the limit of my knowledge reached and searches on the net aren't helping me either. The printer works fine directly connected via USB, so the drivers are on the computer somewhere. How do I get them set up to use the printer on the network?
