Hardware :: HP 30" Monitor Not Showing Video Display On RHEL 5.3?
Jan 29, 2010
I have RHEL 5.3 running on Cray CX1. I am trying to connect to HP LP3065 30" monitor and not getting any video display (no response at all). Monitor is working fine on Windows system. Monitor has only DVI-D ports and my Cray system also has DVI socket to connect with. I checked for drivers at HP site and I couldn't find one anywhere else. I have NVIDIA quadro FX4800 video card and NVIDIA driver installed.

I have recently installed ubuntu using wubi on a dimension 9100 PC.When i boot up ubuntu I get a message that it cannot display current video mode when the GUI tries to launch. The monitor is a Dell E173FPb.From digging about on google it seems I need to edit the xorg.conf file? However, it doesn't exist in the /etc/X11 directory. Does wubi not create this file?
I then created a template of this xorg.conf with the "sudo X -configure" command. I then copied the created file to /etc/X11/xorg.conf and editied the Monitor settings. however, I still get the same error even when I put in the HorizSync and VerRefresh settings shown on the Dell webpage (31-80 and 56-76 respectively).

I am now using Ubuntu 9.10. The prob is I am not able to increase the resolution of display. It is showing only 800 x 600 display. While trying to increase the resolution it is showing "Unknown Monitor". So, how can I detect the monitor so I can increase the resolution of my system.

I am facing problem with the fresh installation of Fedora 11. (I have moved from Fedora 9). When I try to view videos on ..... or use the Cheese Webcam Booth, I get blurred lines on the screen and I am unable to see any video or pic.
Also I noticed that the when i go to System > Preferences>Display, it shows me UNKOWN MONIOR.
However, if I got to System>Administration>Display and enter the su password, it shows me correct monitor and the graphics driver.
I am not sure if my original is related to the Unknown Monitor.
I also tried to install Nvidia driver but it crashed the xserver and I had remove the driver.
My Monitor is LG 700E and Graphics card is from intel. as I am not able watch any video.

I installed Karmic on an older PC I had laying around, and the only trouble I am having is with screen resolution. It uses an old ATI chipset (onboard) for video, and it doesn't seem to do EDID correctly, so I can't display anything higher than 800x600. I have tried creating an xorg.conf, but it's still not working. How can I tell Xorg to ignore the fact it can't detect a widescreen monitor and display something larger than 800x600? I noticed the log says the sync's are out of range, but I am not sure how to fix it.
Here is my current xorg.conf.
Code:
Section "ServerLayout"
Identifier "X.org Configured"
Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer"
InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
EndSection
[Code]....

I have 4 virtual disk on AX4-5i. RHEL for some reason shows 16 partitions in /proc/partitions. I got lot-lot of IO errors in dmesg. Some of those 16 partitions "work", others just give (on using fdisk for example): Unable to read /dev/sdb. On EMC I have 4 ports, so it might be somehow releated to this.

I've googled and read docs but got no idea what to do. Any experiences with EMC/RHEL/iSCSI - I just don't understand where those 16 (and half of them not working/giving lotof errors) come from? For example Citrix Xen on similar network conf can see/use same EMC thoughr iSCSI nicely. SO there should'nt be network/auth issues (not using CHAP btw). I got feeling that problem is on RHEL iscsi conf side.

One monitor is working fine but the display is not coming on other monitor. I guess no problem in monitor because I swapped the cable to check the individual monitor. When I try to install the new driver its giving GCC-VERSION-CHECK while installing. And I do not think I have to install the new driver because it has already one. What should I do to configure the dual monitor. Do I have to edit any configuration file.
My system configuration details are below.
Redhat version : Redhat Enterprise Linux WS release 3 (Taroon update 4)
Driver in SRBC 26: NVIDIA-LINUX-x86_64-1.0-7664-pkg2.run
Nvidia card model : Quadro fx p171
Bios version of Nvidia : 4.35.20.23.07

I am trying to install RHEL 6 on a machine without a monitor. After reading through their installation guide I have decided to try a vnc installation using my laptop. The guide says: To activate the VNC connect mode, pass the vncconnect boot parameter:
boot: linux vncconnect=HOST
The problem is that I have never had to do this before, I have no idea what "pass a boot parameter" means.

I was trying to take advantage of that new HTML5 <video> tag, and Firefox 3.5's native Ogg support, by embedding an .ogv video. Here is the references I used:
[code].....
Here was the code I put on my web page:
Code:
<video width="640" height="480" controls="controls">
<source src="http://path/to/uploaded/video/on/my/site.ogv" />
Your browser does not support the <code>video</code> element.
</video>
However, when I view it I get a video box, but it is grey and will not play a video. I keep playing with the various attributes but the result always seems to be the same. I also tried it on a Windows box with Firefox 3.5 (to make sure it didn't have something to do with my Linux config) but the results were the same.

I am trying to install RHEL 5.5 using rhel-server-5.5-i386-dvd DVD on my DELL Inspiron 1464 Laptop. However, after probing the hardware, I see a message at the bottom of the screen regarding xwindow, (cannot read it as it disappears fast) and then the first page of installation loads.(this has a redhat logo and a forward button at lower right corner) BUT this page is extremely DIM. Its as good as its not there.I have
DISPLAY:Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator HD (Core 3i) Intel Corporatoin Compatible
PROC: Intel (R) Core(TM) i3 M330 @ 2.13Ghz
RAM: 4.00 GB
What should I do to fix the issue? Also, earlier I was able to install Fedora 13 (32bit) successfully (dual boot with Win 7 Pro 64bit).

It seems that whenever I boot my laptop (hp probook 6450b) without a monitor attached, then boot with a monitor later attached, the configuration gets all messed up.
Currently, if I boot with the monitor attached, right after the blue loading screen (at the login prompt) i get two black monitors and a mouse, with no login screen. Unplugging the monitor shows the login screen on the laptop.
If i boot without the monitor attached, log in, then plug it in, i see the following from xrandr:
Code:
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 2390 x 768, maximum 8192 x 8192
LVDS1 connected 1366x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 310mm x 174mm
1366x768 59.6*+
1024x768 60.0
[Code]....
However, now when I reboot, all settings are lost, and if the monitor is attached, i get the black screen with a mouse at login.
I did notice that when I shutdown, it hangs on "Running guests on default URI", and i get a stack trace. It will keep dumping stack traces, and i have to hold down the power button to force it off.

I've recently installed Debian v8.1 and installed Nvidia driver 340.46. In nvidia-settings I am able to enable my second monitor and enable it/set it's position..etc. My second monitor is not being detected in Debian Display and is 'on' but only showing a black screen. I've tried researching and implementing various 'fixes', but I'm not having any luck.
I'm running dual GTX 570's with a monitor plugged into one each (DVI). I noticed in my xorg.conf under Section "Screen" I have an option "MultiGPU" "Off"; would this be part of the issue?
I've tried:
- purging all nvidia drivers and re-installing
- installing different versions of nvidia drivers
- add nomodeset in grub

I'm sure this is a very simple task but I don't have a lot of experience with Linux. I need to view what my display adapters settings are, specifically the refresh rate. I have found plenty on how to change the settings but not how show its current setup. I am troubleshooting an vga splitter/extender issue on a digital signage unit where the master screen syncs up but the remote screen does not, I think it has to do with H-Sync V-Sync or refresh rate.

i have a hp laptop with a cracked screen so i'm using and external monitor. It is an HP vs15c. Now it was working fine.. perfect even.. until i was working on a second virus infect pc in bed with the keyboard connection to this pc next to me. What happened next is a bit embarrassing and also why i have no idea what i did or how to fix it. Well i found the virus in the laptop i was repairing (god i hate vista.) when i wiggled in excitement .. only the keyboard slide under my breast and the next thing i know my screen looks stretched and i have no bars. i can move my mouse beyond the right and the bottom edges of the screen and i can't change anything cause i can't get any option.. or least i don't know how to get them without the bars.. i can't even reboot if i wanted to cause my task bar is GONE. the bottom active bar is there.. off screen where i can see it but if i drag my mouse down far enough it is there to click on things. However the top bar that i need is gone. I am NOT good with terminal.. nor do i know how to open it without the top task bar. Right now i'm cursing a storm and being very angry about being a woman.

I've checked gdmsetup and there isn't anything that I can see that keeps my general users from getting in remotely. I can get the Gnome to login as root but not as a user. SSH from PuTTY works fine for all users. The error I get actually says that the username or password is incorrect - checked using SSH and it is fine.

I successfully installed linux mint 9 and at the same time update the system. Now that everything is running, I returned the pc to the owner, but when I power it on, no display. You can see the post but no display after that. And 1 more, I press the shift while loading grub2, nope nothing happens. And also tried booting the CD installer, same results.
I installed the system using an old 15" CRT monitor and the owner had a AOC 1619sw LCD monitor. I found this thread from ubuntu which I think was the same problem as mine, [ubuntu] Help! No display/keyboard on boot with differnet monitor - Ubuntu Forums, but no solutions yet.

I've recently hooked up my pc to my very old TV-set and I've managed to get TV-out (S-video) working fairly quickly.BUT, I'm having a weird issue. The picture on the TV-set is distorted with 'white-lines' running through it horizontally. Its difficult to describe, but it looks a little like a sheet of writing-paper splashed across the screen... I've searched around and haven't found a solution yet. The weird thing is, that running windows, I get no such display corruption.I'm using the very latest xf-video-ati driver atop a r300 (radeon 9600) card. The TV is a very old model, PAL standard.Output from xrandr:
