View 1 RepliesHave very recently installed Open S on my PC. As it's all really new 2 me have been strugling a bit to get things to work @ first. Now it's much better but my bleeping scanner won't work for love or money, apparently the Linux driver ( or should I say backend) for the thing has not been created. Its CanoScan 3000 and I still have the discs with Windows setup. Is there any way to get that thing work under Linux or should I get another scanner? Obviously, me writing the backend, is not really a very realistic option.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an old Dell Dimension 3000 Desktop computer which used to run Windows XP but I installed Linux Ubuntu 10.04 32-bit onto it. It has a pentium 4 2.8Ghz, 1GB of ram(I think), a 120GB HDD...etc. Anyway, so when I install Ubuntu I try to install the graphics drivers for it. I go to intels website. There were two drivers available for Linux for my adapter:
the i915graphics and a intelgraphics driver. Both were tar.gz. When I try to install them, it can't for some reason. I tried "sudo sh" in terminal, I tried extracting the package and executing it...etc. Nothing works. It does give me a message in terminal though.
Is the Canon scanner .. CanoScan LiDE 600F .. supported in ubuntu 10.10?
This scanner works in Vista.
In ubuntu I ran ..
Code:
No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different, check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).
Then I searched through this ..

fedora can't detect my scanner 5600f !!how can i do ? i can't scan pictures ? is there any solution ??
programming ?? driver ?? can i do somthing with sane genesys and GL841 chipset??
Since installing F11, my Canon LIDE 50 scanner refuses to work. xsane 0.996 produces an error message: Failed to start scanner: Error during device I/O.
sane-find-scanner says it is there: found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9 [Canon], product=0x2213 [CanoScan], chip=GL841?) at libusb:001:006 But scanimage -L claims: No scanners were identified.except once when it admitted: device `genesys:libusb:001:006' is a Canon LiDE 35/40/50 flatbed scanner
I reluctantly tested the scanner on a Windoze machine and it works perfectly. And it worked perfectly under F10.
Video is ok, but never any sound. I went through and made sure the HDMI is selected as the audio device and I upgraded to the latest driver binary.
HDMI sound works without the ATI proprietary driver installed, but the needed resolution is not available and the picture overlaps the edges on my 32" LCD. At least I know it is not a hardware issue. ALSA is loaded and selected as the sound manager, but the volume controls don't appear in the ALSA slider console.
I tested the cable and display on another computer. I am using a new Gigabyte GA-MA78LM-SH2, it is the integrated video.
I got my hands on my first real server hardware yesterday - a PIII 600 MHz COMPAQ Proliant 3000 with 1.8 GB RAM, Smart Array 3200 controller and 4x18.2GB SCSI ULTRA 3 hard drives. RAM is upgraded from original and USB card added - otherwise hardware arrangement appears to be original.
Minimal 10.04 installed (35 minutes boot to boot) as Server 10.04 could not detect CD drive. My problem? Everything works but it does not look right. Probably my bigger problem?? I know almost nothing about RAID and the more I read the more ethereal my understanding seems to become.
When installing, I chose to install with LVM on c0d0. Grub written to MBR. I have posted df -l, fdisk -l and lshw output below. Would someone tell me if this looks correct and, possibly, offer some pointers if it does not.

OS: Ubuntu 11.04 x86
CPU: Intel core i5 sandy bridge 2410M
GPU: Intel HD 3000 (Integrated)
RAM: 8 gigs ddr3
So I got my new laptop a few days ago, loaded up ubuntu. After starting up minecraft to connect to my server I realised that the fps was going from 50 to 1 and back to 50 again EVERY SECOND so obviously this isn't normal. After a quick google search every one on windows seems to have no problem. There are no results for linux.
Edit: Yes I know why the are you using a x86 os on a computer with 8 gigs of ram? At the time of installation all I had was no internet access and a live cd from LUD with ubuntu on it
I have Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 with this card, its just works without any configuration but I have a big problem.
I start Kaffeine 1.0-svn3 and I can see the last dvb-T channel but when I want to change to other channel I can't see it, I have to restart Kaffeine, or wait to get the "Read error from:" error press Ok and select the channel.
I couldn't get any signal from my Quickcam 3000 RT with stopmotion. Is this some sort of a driver issue? Here is "dmesg" output:Quote:

Got to say first off, I have LOVED the 10.10 release, absolutely adore it. Only problem that I have noticed thus far, is that when I use any of the non standard buttons, it causes my left clicking to stop working.
It's not a big deal but something that does come in handy every once in a while =/
I'm trying to configure my Microsoft Intellimouse 3000 in Ubuntu 10.04 and am not really having any luck. Basically all I want is to have the thumb button set as my back command. And of course if that's easy then I would want to assign commands to all buttons.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu 10.10 on a Laptop Acer Aspire 3000 everything works perfect... excluding.... the Wireless Networks.
1. I cannot check marked Enable Wireless
2. Wireless Network disabled
The driver is installed when I installed Ubuntu 10.10 it asked me to install this. Is not a problem of driver I think. It is a Broadcom Corporation BCM4312
I found out the following:
1. I tried rfkill unblock all with negative results
2. rfkill list phy0: Wireless LAN, Soft blocked: no, Hard blocked: yes
3. look in the file system: NetworkingEnabled=true, WirelessEnabled=false, WWANEnabled=true
Is this really not supported by Ubuntu ?? username: melfrimarlyne e-mail: ferris@sowerseed.aw
I newly installed ubuntu 8.04 distro. on my IBM lenovo n200. every thing works fine. except for the sound.
The sound card is detected the driver is installed and loaded but it just won't work.
I have tried removing then installing alsa-base and alsa-utils but nothing.
I have tired tinkering with the mixers but still nothing.
I looked through lots of documentations and suggested solutions with no luck.
I believe that my problem is simple. but I need some one to check what I have done so far to see if I have done it right.
Do Intel HD 3000 Graphics run out of the box on Linux? Or do I have to do some manual work to get it working? Does Intel develop open source drivers?
Are they faster than on Windows?
This would apply for any Linux distribution.
I have installed the gspca2 driver for my webcam, but in kopete, I still get only a wierd multi colored/scrambled thick line across the top of the webcam screen and the rest remains blank. This is in Kopete. In Kopete, under video, under device, under input, it shows "sonixj" and the device is "USB camera". I know the webcam works in Win7/Vista/XP, but I am trying to get away from using those OSs.
I had tried the 1 click SuSE install of the gspca2 driver but it wouldn't complete the install. Doing it in YaST directly seemed to work but I still get the same bad screen when using the webcam, which has it's LED light up.
The audio coming into the headset works just fine; however, the microphone stopped working after I rebooted a few days ago.I am running Ubuntu 10.04.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Dimension 3000 with 2GB RAM, a 500 GB disk with two, 250 GB partitions, one for XP and one for Linux. The machine has a 1 GB Ethernet expansion card to replace the 10/100 MB integrated Ethernet card. The BIOS was upgraded to A03, the latest version. My initial attempt to boot the Live CD of Kubuntu 10.04.2 32-bit desktop left me with a blank screen, the CD-ROM drive stopped and the hard disk light on. I used the power button reset to re-gain control of the machine. On the next try, I removed the "quiet splash --" from the end of the boot options, and the machine got much further, but did much complaining about sr0 which I believe is a reference to a software RAM drive.
I went through the BIOS setup screen (hit F2 on boot to access) and under "Integrated devices:Network Interface controller" I turned off the built in network interface since the machine is using the plug-in card mentioned above. I also put the floppy disk drive at the end of the "Boot sequence" parameter. I rebooted again with the same deletion of the "quiet splash --" from the end of the boot options and the boot took me to the desktop!
Alas, when I tried to install 10.04.2 from the desktop, the installation died at the 15% point with "[Errno 5] Input/output error". The included explanation pointed at problems with either the hard drive (brand new in my case) or the CD-ROM drive or the CD itself. I'm too tired right now to pursue this further, but I will try burning a new CD at a lower speed as suggested by the error's help information.
I'm also still concerned about the earlier complaints about sr0. It is conceivable that the problem with copying the files to the hard disk could relate to problems with a RAM buffer that is used in the copying process. I mention this to remind myself to pursue that as a possible culprit if re-burning the CD doesn't help.
Does anyone know how to obtain drivers for this webcam that will work in Ubuntu?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've managed to install openSuse 11.4, and have also managed to get the sound working properly, but the mic doesn't seem to be working.
My system is a hp mini 110 3000 netbook which came pre installed with windows 7. I'd install ubuntu on this before switching to openSuse, and in ubuntu the mic was working.
Also, I can't get bluetooth and the sd card reader working. I've got the ath9k driver installed, and WLAN works perfectly on that, but bluetooth doesn't.
It has ATI Radeon HD 3000 Graphics. Will that work with Fedora 14? Will I need to install a driver to get it to work? If so, where would I download that driver?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Lenovo Notebook 3000 N100 with built in wireless - Broadcom BCM4311 802.11b/g. The seems to be properly installed(as per the screen shots) but still I can not see any wireless networks. I checked out most of the forum but could not find any exactly matching situation. find the attached results of the below command which might give you idea : sudo lshw -C network
As per one of the screen shot it seems that "This drive is activated and currently in use" still I can not see any routers(including mine) which I can connect. Also the Wifi LED is not glowing.
By way of background: I've been using Linux since kernel 0.97.something_or_the_other, but I've been using one of the other distros. This is my first crack at Redhat/Fedora.
I'm trying to install Fedora 10 on an old Compaq Proliant 3000, dual P-II 450, Compaq Smartarray 3200, plenty of drive space, 3C905 based NIC, original Compaq CD drive.
The install will boot from the CD just fine, I get the initial graphic menu to select whether to do an install, upgrade, etc.
I select option 1 to install and I get what looks like an ncurses based screen that asks me to select a language, another screen that asks for a keyboard, then a screen that asks me if I want to install from CD/DVD, NFS, local drive, etc.
If I select the CD install option, the next screen complains that it can't find a drive and asks me to either select a driver from a list of drivers or to insert a driver disk. Doesn't matter what driver I select, it always snaps immediately back to the screen that says it can't find the hardware to match the driver. Every time it does this, it's not spinning the CD to read the driver that I've selected.
IF I go for an NFS install, after it asks me the network parms I wind up at that same driver screen with the same results, no matter what I pick it throws me back to the can't find hardware/pick a driver screen. As far as I can tell, the NIC is never actually trying to wake up.
I know the hardware is functional because if I boot from from CD with my usual distro it identifies and starts all the hardware just fine, CD, NIC, RAID, etc.
I can see where it might work to have the necessary driver module for the CD on a floppy, but where do I get the module? I tried mounting the .iso images for the install set on another machine but I don't see anything obvious that looks like modules that I can cabbage onto.
I have not been able to get any F keys to work, F2 etc. Anyone have a similar issue? I can't find much about it. I am running Slackware 13.1

I have attempted shutdown using the GUI, and variations of shutdown, init and halt. All of these result in the PC powering back on. The only way for me to power off the system is to press and hold the power button.

1. where lies the linux (ubuntu 10.04) variant to execute the operation.
2. What can be the major obligations of such a change?
I am sure its siimple enough, but I can't get my net to work properly. The connection provided to the internet is through wireless routers.
