I have this 20"-21" Gateway display that has a resolution of 1680x1050, and will not work proper at a lower resolution, it squishes up and does not fit to the desk top but I can't find a way to manually set the resolution. I am using Ubuntu version 7.10.

I'm running 10.04 desktop on a Dell PowerEdge T710 connected to a Dell 22" LCD (E2210). The T710 uses a Matrox G200eW chipset. For some reason, I can't set the display resolution to the native res of my monitor (1680x1050). For what it's worth, here are the contents of /var/log/Xorg.0.log:

After upgrading to 11.04 I can't set resolution to 1680x1050. Also Can't get the screens out of mirror mode.

I performed a clean install of Fedora 13 (LXDE remix) over the weekend, and have been very pleased with it so far. However, I encountered a setback this morning when I brought my laptop into the office and hooked it up to an external Viewsonic VG2030wm LCD monitor. I can no longer utilize the native resolution of 1680x1050, although on F11 I could do so using the commands:

The 1680x1050 mode is listed by xrandr (see below). However, when I run the above command the external monitor repeated alternates between a black screen and displaying my desktop (I'm not sure if the resolution is correct -- it's hard to tell).

The native resolution from my LCD monitor is 1680x1050, but the list of "NVIDIA X Server Settings" only allow me to set it to maximum 1360x768. The monitor is conected via VGA cable and it is recognized as CRT-0. When I run the 'xrandr' command from terminal, it shows:

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04, and after I rebooted to finish installing my Nvidia drivers, the bootsplash reset itself to a resolution of 800x600. Is there any way to change it back to 1680x1050?

I'd prefer a machine with a higher res, but I've heard that Ubuntu will only go as high as 1024x768.I'm guessing, however, that by 9.1, it should recog the higher res while loading and it won't be a problem, but thought I'd check before shelling out on a machine with a nicer display.

On Ubuntu I could select the resolution of 1152x864 which is fine (1024x768 is too big and really makes me look like a grand-daddy...). How can I set 1152x864 on Fedora 13, if it is possible and how? Recent distribution do not rely on a xorg.conf file anymore. I use an older 9000 Mobility Radeon, and there are no proprietary drivers anymore, but the open source one. I gave it a try. Install the package to create an Xorg default and edited my resolution

I have changed the keyboard option to kill X with <Ctrl><Alt><Backspace> keys. That does not work--yet. No 1152x864 resolution.
I am using a tv as a 2nd monitor and it has a very abnormal resolution. I have tried to set it but failed.

I purchased a lenovo G550 recently and immediately dumped the Windows OS for Ubuntu 9.10. The display is currently defaulting to 1366x768. From reading it looks as though this display can support both 16:9 and 16:10 aspects. I have ran through the xrandr commands attempting to set my resolution to something...anything bigger than 1366x7768 (I'm used to 1600x1200 from my old T61, so this is painfully small). As a test I am trying to get 1920 1200, from my xrandr results it looks like it should be within the lcd's range. xrandr commands failed on me as I have seen on a couple other intel based resolution problems. I don't fully understand the root of the problem and have not had any luck in my searches. So I have also attempted to manually create the xorg.conf file, not luck yet.

I have a Dell U2311H monitor which has a native resolution of 1920 x 1080. My graphics card is an ATI 6870.
Last night I installed Ubuntu 10.10 alongside my Windows installation, and when booting into Ubuntu, the maximum resolution I can select is 1280 x 1024.
How can I resolve this to get Ubuntu to display at the native resolution?
I changed my display resolution to 832x624 from a higher resolution. Now all my resolution higher than 832x624 have disappeared and I cannot set a higher resolution.Does anyone know how I can get my higher display resolutions back.

For some reason 1024x768 is no longer listed in (GNOME) System->Preferences->Moniters. Even after reinstalling Debian from scratch it's not there anymore. What can I do to fix this? System->Preferences->Moniters says Moniter: Unknown and stays that way even if I click Detect moniters.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've just completed my first pc build, and installed Ubuntu 8.2. My build was focussed around a legacy Apple Cinema 30" display, which has 2560x1600 @ 60fps resolution. The motherboard - Gigabyte H97N-Wifi - supports that display, although the display drivers are supplied by Intel, and are therefore nonfree. On startup, my display resolution defaults to 1200x800. I bumped into a webpage which stated that xrandr does not work with proprietary drivers, and if that's true, I can't get it to change resolution on my screen.
I've decided to try Debian Lenny, after i succefully installed it without any problems there appears to be a problem - after loading the services and etc, my monitor turns off with a floating message saying it cannot display the current resolution, and that i should set it to 1280x1024@60Hz.

Because I have several machine, I use a KVM (switch keyboard) in the middle. This KVM is quite old but still work correctly only problem is that it don't forward the EDID information. Until now it wasn't a problem, and by specifying the correct parameters of the monitor in /etc/X11/xorg.conf , I always succeed to reach the 1920x1080 resolution
In installed the proprietary drivers from ATI Catalyst 10.6 (last version)
since I have 2 problems :
first in the console I used framebuffer in 1280x1024x32. Before installation of the ATI drivers, it was ok, now the screen is completely black !! on every tty (I didn't investigate much on this trouble yet)
Second problem:
I can't reach the native resolution of my monitor ! No matter what I'm doing, the best the driver propose is 1600x1200 !!
I made a lot of test and modification in xorg.conf but without success, it always goes back to this resolution and never propose something higher For information, if I connect the monitor directly to the video card (removing the KVM), everything is OK and the resolution is automatically set to 1920x1080

View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed 9.10 on a computer I'm working on, and right away the graphics went out. It won't display the proper resolution without shoving the display significantly to the left.
After MUCH Googling, I found that this can be fixed by a driver called i915. After much MORE Googling, I found [URL], which as you can imagine filled me with relief.
And THEN I try to follow the instructions and discover to my pure horror that GRUB has been gutted and made unusable in 9.10. GRUB2 just simply does not seem to have an option to insert the i915 driver into my boot command.
should I just forget this unstable release and burn a 9.04 disk instead?
I've just installed BitDefender on my 10.04 netbook, updated and activated it, completed a scan, and found Backdoor.Generic.284566 The thing is, it won't let me delete/quarantine the nasty. BitDefender does give me a warning about my screen resolution being too low (800x600), i believe this may be the problem. The option buttons are not visible on the screen, therefore I cannot use the program properly.(i tried the max resolution 1024x600, but to no avail )
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just put a HTPC together, it's a MSI 890GXM-G65 RT motherboard (on-board video, no video card) connected to a TV (SAMSUNG LED UN40B70) via an HDMI cable. I've put latest Ubuntu Desktop 10.10 on it. Installation went beautifully, the screen placed correctly, However, once it was actually running, the display is totally wrong. Looks like it's too far to the left and up - there's nothing on the screen except for background, at 1920x1080 resolution. Once I change the resolution to lower, it works.

I am having video issue with ubuntu 9.10 and centos 5.4 cannot get resolution higher than 800x600 on Viewsonic vg930m monitor...The first time I installed ubuntu 9.10 worked great, since then no better than 800x600 on both linux distros. Any ideas it is very annoying, like using web browser on a small tablet pc....This monitor works great with opensolaris, though.
Using both distros in virtualbox right now but even if not virtualized install on hard drive I cannot get higher than 800x600...Driving me nuts.
Intel motherboard DG33TL, chipset G33. I use the on-board graphics. The display is an Fujitsu-Siemens 22" with 1680x1050 res. The latest four versions including 10.04 of Ubuntu selects wrong resolution at boot up, 1024x768. There is no option for higher res. It should be 1680x1050 and I can't change it. Have not found a solution. It works on other quite modern motherboards, but just NOT DG33TL.

I installed the proprietary bumblebee-nvidia (version 3.2.1) as per the instructions in URL...The problem is that when I connect a monitor to the laptop, the image is duplicated with only part of the screen showing on the second monitor. The monitor itself is not detected in the display settings or arandr / xrandr, so I can't change the resolution or set dual display, etc. Here is the output of xrandr:

I have a nVidia GeForce GTX 760 Ti Graphics card. I have installed the proprietary driver and disabled the open source one. The problem is when I connect to two monitors via DVI and VGA, the VGA one appears to be 'unknown' and is using incorrect resolution of 640x480. How can I correct its resolution?
