Hardware :: Blackberry As A Modem - With Bbtether/berry4all On OpenSuSE 11.2
Feb 9, 2010
I upgraded from OpenSuSE 11.1 to 11.2 and now the software bbtether/berry4all is unable to gain a hold on the blackberry. I get connection timed out errors with no hope in sight as to what is holding this BB hostage.
Berry_charge is not the culprit as it has been de-registered. I did notice one difference between 11.1 and 11.2--it appears usbcore.ko has been compiled in with 11.2 and doing an lsmod on 11.1 yields usbcore as a module where 11.2 does not--not sure if this is by design.
I am not sure what is going on here but I suspect their is something/some_module not allowing me to get a connection to this device.
Bare install of 11.1 and 11.2 on the same piece of hardware (Dell Latitude D600) too by the way--nothing has changed but the release! This all worked great on 11.1--I don't understand it...?
I was just curious to see if anyone could help me setting up my bb curve to be used as a modem for my laptop. Laptop is an acer aspire, the phone is bb curve 8330 n I'm running ubuntu 8.10
how to use my blackberry curve as a modem for my laptop. My laptop is an acer aspire 5670 n I'm running 8.04 on it. Its a blackberry curve 8330 I want to use as a modem.
I just upgraded to 11.04 with a fresh install on a Dell Inspiron E1405. Got everything else working, but can't get my BBTether to work again.
Message says it usually means the BB is not responding. But it is also happening with Virgin Mobil Broadband stick. Both are USB connections. USB flash drive seems to work.

I have a Blackberry Bold 9000 that I would like to be able to sync with Kmail. Once I do this, I can be rid of the last bit of Windows I own (Windows Vista) on my laptop. Also, will I still be able to perform Blackberry software updates as required from my Linux sync? Once I have this solved I can get rid of Windows, and put OpenSuse on my laptop too.
When I first got my BlackBerry, USCellular said I couldn't tether with Linux. That's not so, all you need is BlueTooth (USB adapter, built in, whatever)
You just install Blueman Code: sudo apt-get install blueman Search for your BlackBerry, Pair it to your computer, then go to Devices > Serial ports > Dial Up Networking.
Your wireless connection should be in Network Manager. NOTE: You may have to right-click on NM and setup Numbers, Passwords, Usernames. I did.
I just purchased a Verizon USB 760 Modem.I purchased the Modem from Verizon because their web site stated that it supported all major OS including Linux.
My system specs are: HP Compaq 6715b Laptop
OS Information OS: Linux 2.6.25.20-0.4-default i686 Current user: jraglin@Jada System: openSUSE 11.0 (i586)
I have a blackberry bold and I am running squeeze with gnome. I want to be able to pull files off the bb via usb. When I connect the bb to my computer, the bb asks me to key in my password. Also, Under Places -> Computer, I can see an icon for the blackberry.
However, when I double click on the blackberry icon it does not open. Running "mount /dev/sda1" from the shell, I get "mount: mount point /media/sda1 does not exist".
HOWTO: Sync Contacts between BlackBerry and Evolution on Fedora 10
1. Overview
Open source tools are available to sync a BlackBerry with Evolution but it appears these tools are not supported by Fedora 10. The main thing that seems to be missing is the Barry plugin for OpenSync. Maybe the reason that this package has not been created is that Barry requires OpenSync version 0.22, whereas F10 ships OpenSync version 0.36. This HOWTO explains how to build all of the required components from source code. If the required package becomes available, this HOWTO would then be redundant.
This entire build and installation is performed in the home directory of a non-root user to ensure that no system files are broken. Some of the commands in this HOWTO must be run as root, when this is the case it is stated explicitly and otherwise the commands in this document should be run under a non-root account. The username for the examples below is erik.
2. Be a Developer
When you install F10 you are prompted to specify the uses to which your computer will be put. Hopefully you selected software development, if not your machine will probably be missing many of the utilities required for this HOWTO.
3. Initialize Evolution
Open Evolution and click on all of the buttons at the left to ensure that the necessary databases are created.
how do i access the files on my blackberry's memory card? also is there a way to see ALL the files (like the system files and everything) on the phone?
i just recently got a new blackberry pearl 8230 smartphone thingy and iv been trying to find out how to load music onto it and i cant seem to do it, the disk it came with is for windows and i tried running the program through wine and it wouldn't work, so i was wondering how would i go about obtaining the programs to do this if there are any out there?
I was just wondering if Ubuntu developers were thinking now or in the future of introducing support for RIM BlackBerry devices?(I have previously read comments from Apple device users (iPods etc.) questioning why their devices were not supported so I suppose I am just evening things up a little for us BlackBerry users out there!
I have two MP3 Player device and 1 old Blackberry phone(they could be connect to PC with USB cable). All of them works fine with Windows 7. Now I want to connect them to my Ubuntu 10.04.
When connected,There is absolutely no information about my devices either by dmesg, lsusb, mount or fdisk -l, gvfs-mount -l,cat /var/log/messages.
I have tried following but not work: 1.logout and re-plug my device then login again; plugin my device and reboot; 2.modprobe uhci_hcd ehci_hcd usb-storage and re-plug my device 3.add uhci_hcd ehci_hcd usb-storage lines to /etc/modules . 4.install mtpfs mtp-tools packages and use it in rhythmbox. 5.remove any other USB devices and re-plug my device.
The strange thing is, my kindle reader is worked fine with 10.04, but either my MP3 players or my old Blackberry phone is not identified by 10.04. Maybe All of the un-identified devices is USB1.X, but I'm not sure, or if there is some problem with old USB support.
My MP3 player identified as two device with Windows 7, one is USB CDROM, another is USB Mass storage.
I have a USB hub with one usb mouse and one USB key board, both works well with 10.04.
I want to install ubuntu on my Blackberry 9500 Storm1 how do i do this? Also can i do dual boot?and before anyone ask i want to do this because i like ubuntu alot and prefer it to the BB software
I bought a micro sd card for my BB 9000 and having a lot of trouble with it. windows as it just doesn't work or maybe it is that the card i bought is faulty? Probably too late to get my money back from paypal now :0(. I did this
$ lsusb Bus 002 Device 006: ID 0e8f:0021 GreenAsia Inc. Bus 002 Device 005: ID 17a0:0001 Bus 002 Device 004: ID 04a9:2207 Canon, Inc. CanoScan 1220U
[Code]....
while the BB was connected. And you will see byt the attached pic that the sd card is not mounting. I can't see where the card is now. The file manager did list it but can't remember where. With all the other drives(i have 2 hard drives) but now i can't see it. There is some confusion as to wether the music that the BB software i used via windows put the music on the BB device or the card. Different things say different things. The filemanager on the BB suggests the files are on the card but when i go to add more files i get an error saying the device is full. The device can only hold 1gb of files including installed apps. I probably haven't mentioned everything here as this is doing my head in. I have been battling for weeks with it and i wish i had of known earlier that the card might be faulty so i could have got my money back.
It seems that I can see my BlackBerry Curve (Verizon) on Rhythm Box...but I can't (for the life of me) figure out how to sync the music on Rhythmbox to my BlackBerry...(see screenshot)
I have a .is_audio_player file in the root of the BlackBerry device as well...
Code: [christian@fedora-laptop 7713-989E]$ pwd /media/7713-989E [christian@fedora-laptop 7713-989E]$ ll -a total 160K
i was wondering if it is possible too use the DD command to make an image file of my blackberry 8330?i need it of the onboard memory and not the external memory card.
find and install modem driver for the Alcatel X200 USB modem?
I've been all over the internet trying to locate Linux drivers but no success. Alcatel's website says is not supported, only in Windows. I'm sure there's gotta be a way to use the X200 in Linux.
i'm running Kubuntu karmic and i've been using a 3G Huawei E1552 modem to connect to the internet, everything was going well when suddenly my modem stopped working. I've tried reconfiguring everything, i even reinstalled kubuntu from scratch with no success. Here's a part of my /var/log/debug

I have this USB modem P300U(SIM600 chip based) which works fine under wind@ws because it has it's own driver, but the clever seller told me that it worked under Linux as well. It was with Redhat 8 but I couldn't get redhat 8 to download. And until now absolutely false.
I have Debian with Kernel 2.6.32-5-686 I just want to send sms through this modem. It's not recognized as modem I'm frustrated because it's not useful for me if it doesn't work on Linux I looked for info but I can't make it work. What I get in my debian is:
lsusb: Bus 002 Device 003: ID 10c4:ea60 Cygnal Integrated Products, Inc. CP210x Composite Device

I managed to get my hylafax server nice and going, I also setup up AvantFax and Faxy to reach it from the web..What I still want to do it to send a mail from my blackberry device with a JPEG attachment, and have it forwarded as a FAX to the recipient fax machine...
I read and saw a few documentation here and there, but it is very confusing for me...
courier-faxmail seemed nice, but it conflicts with Hylafax..
Hylafax help support is unclear to me...
I'm not sure jpg attachments from blackberry are "standard" jpg, and, I have no idea how to forward this as a fax...
For what I understood, I need to have a running mail agent on my server, and a script to forward this to hylafax..
