Fedora Hardware :: Logged Out After *second* Wakeup?

Jul 12, 2010

I'm experiencing a strange behavior with wakeup after suspend/hibernate: the first time the system wakes up, it works ok. Then it can suspend ok, but on each wake up I get the login window (my session has been forced logged out). I have to reboot to get one good wake up. It's 100% reproductible on both suspend-to-disk and suspend-to-ram.

/var/log/pm-suspend.log doesn't give much info:
Mon Jul 12 16:20:24 CEST 2010: performing suspend
Mon Jul 12 17:45:16 CEST 2010: Awake.

Ubuntu :: I/O Frenzy On Wakeup From Suspend

May 17, 2010

When I suspend the computer it is more or less idle. When waking up, the harddrive is maxed out with i/o activity. The drive led is more or less fully on. I am not able to log in to gnome. I can however switch to VT1 and log in there, although it takes ages.

top shows no process activity, but IO Wait is at about 87%. df -h reports several GB free. free -m shows there is over 2GB free RAM.

I installed iotop, which took about two hours. I have attached it's output as it's rather special. In short just about every app is reading as much as it can from disk, including iotop itself!

As seen in the log throughput is not very high, but the disk i/o still puts the system to a crawl.

I killed process after process until it suddenly stopped. Unfortunately I didn't pay attention to when, but the i/o hammering stopped when killing one of the following (incomplete process names):

PC specs:
Ubuntu 10.04 x86_64
Acer aspire 5740, 4GB RAM, Intel Core i530 dualcore. AMD mobility radeon 5650 1GB.
I use fglrx and compiz is enabled with 'normal' profile.

Ubuntu :: Mount USB-HDD On Wakeup From Sleep (10.04)

Aug 31, 2010

because of a bug that changes the device of an USB-HDD from /dev/sdb to /dev/sdc after wakeup I need to re-mount my external usb-hdd on wakeup. As far I found out this could be done with an script in /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d I placed a script there and made it executalbe, the contents are:

Code:

#!/bin/sh
sudo mount -a
echo "working" /home/max/Desktop/test.txt
exit 0

If I execute the script from shell the HDD gets mounted, when waking from sleep/standby the script writes "working" in the specified file but the hdd won't get mounted. As I plan using the HDD as a NAS it's important it gets mounted again because otherwise the samashares are invalid

General :: Wake On Lan Stopped Working?

Jan 3, 2011

I have a laptop running Ubuntu 10.04 w/ wireless connection to desktop running Windows 7. I had it set up so I could execute a script to send a wakeonlan to the desktop. It worked fine for several weeks, but all of a sudden it stopped working. I've checked my script and it still looks good as far as I can tell. (I'm not that adept at script writing, so I wouldn't necessarily recognize a problem.) I've also checked the Windows machine to make sure the network adapter still is set to allow wake-on-lan.

BTW: my wake up script is as follows:
#!/bin/bash
wakeonlan xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx

Where the x's replace my actual MAC address.

Fedora :: System Goes To Sleep (auto) After Trying To Wakeup?

Aug 9, 2009

I am trying to figure out what is causing my system to go to sleep as soon as I wake it up.

- Every time I put my notebook to sleep by pressing (Fn+F1)...

- When I wake it up by hitting the power button or opening the lid,

- The system starts wakening, but then it just sleeps again.

- By this time I just hit the power button or open the lid again, and is ok then.

I been trying to read about ACPI & HAL, but I haven't notice anything suspicious.

I have a Dell M1330 with Nvidia (manufacturer drivers) running FC11.

General :: Automatically Wake Up Notebooks Not On The Ethernet?

Mar 24, 2010

I am looking for an automated backup system and I like bacula. I have 3 Notebooks and a Desktop computer that need regular backup. Now I don't want to let them run all night just to do the backuping, so I was thinking I could use wake-on-lan to have bacula wake up the machines, then do the backups, and shut them down afterswards. While this may work with devices on the ethernet, it won't work with the Notebooks on the wifi. So is it possible to have the Notebooks schedules to automatically wake up from suspend or shutdown ?

Or is it possible to interject a shutdown command if it is after a certain hour and call the bacula director to start the backup now?

General :: System Laptop Slow Startup / Reason Of This?

Oct 21, 2010

Just got this Dell M4400 with Redhat EL5 installed.
After I setup the xorg.conf for dual monitor, the startup became extremely slow. Once I type in the user name and password, it just blacks out with the mouse curser still visible. This remains for about 3-4 minutes and then I'm in.

I thought it was my X file, so I overwrote the xorg.conf with my original file and restarted my X. Sadly, it still does that.

What could be causing it? Do I have to reinstall video driver or something?

General :: Ubuntu 9.04 Can't Connect To Visible Open Wifi Ap (reason 6) / Fix It?

Jun 14, 2010

I'm travelling currently so the last network i connected successfully to was my home wpa-psk network. I hadn't tried anything until i got to my accommodation that is an open network (that I'm on now on the Win7 partition on my laptop).

The network (and a similar archetypical 'linksys' open network, aswell as some protected local networks are correctly displayed in network-manager and upon selection, it happily spins around to its hearts content for a while before saying 'no chance boy'.

/var/log/syslog spills out the usual combination of wpa_supplicant and kernel messages, the most interesting of are that the kernel deauthentication reason 6 response. 6 apparently means class2FrameFromNonAuthStation...Client attempted to transfer data before it was authenticated.

Anyone seen anything like this? I've already tried going closer to the router to no avail. I don't remember seeing this any other time I've connected to a open AP, even if that AP is far away. (Signal strength for this AP is good, kismet says its around -57dBm, well above the threshold of -80dBm, and I've tried all the suggestions from the 'Related Questions' code...

General :: Wake From Screensaver Directly To The Login Screen In Ubuntu?

Mar 16, 2010

I've got Ubuntu 9.10 with a user account for my wife, and one for myself. "Wake-from-screensaver" should result in "choose user" without having to enter any password. I know how to do that in Windows, but I'm not good with Linux (yet). get past the login screen without passwords (after booting, and after choosing "switch user"), but once the screensaver kicks in and I wake it up again, the system does not present the "choose user" screen. Instead, it either turns off the screensaver and presents the desktop of the most recent user, or (if the screensaver is set to lock the screen) prompt for the user's password (which can be handily surpassed by clicking the "switch user" button and choosing the same user again). So, the login ("choose user") screen has been dealt with. How do I make the (any) screensaver return to the login screen at wake, rather than to the current user's desktop? Windows can do this, I'm sure Linux can too - but how?
