I've just installed Arch linux over my old distro and I've just discovered that Flash has been discontinued for my x64 machine. Is anyone managing to live reasonably without it? I'm only really wanting it to play media of ....., bbc iplayer, and assorted other video sites. Arch recommended installing FlashBlock for my chromium browser so I can download flash content, but all these sites detect that I don't have flash and take me to a warning page.
I have had my laptop for over a year now and have still no idea how linux works, but the problem I have at the moment, is that i cannot download flash player 10, there is always something that comes up, whether it be asking for a root or just now able to get it, it is an Aspire one AOA 150 that I have.
Also I have all files it asks for installed including dostools..Btw I used usb creator, then went to gparted and did something. The system is fat 32 now but with same message, not including ext4 part. Just the mount point message, and something about dosftools and mtools, wihich also are installed.
I have a USB flash drive, which is bootable and I would like to copy the whole drive to a different drive. Can I just do a low level dd copy between both USB memory drives, or do I need to make an ISO of the source, and then put that ISO on the destination? I figured I could ask in less time than trying, and exhaustively testing to make sure I had it right...
I'm currently trying Ubuntu 11.04 Beta 2. Everything worked fine and I love it, but today after an update to flashplugin, flash just just stopped working. If I go to ..... I'll see: You need to upgrade your Adobe Flash Player to watch this video. Download it from Adobe. I tried to uninstall/reinstall the plugin but to no avail.
I have RHEL Enterprise Linux 4.5 64 bit WS os on my machine. i want to install flash player on that machine. i have download flash player 10.1 from adobe site and nsrapper from redhat site but when i trying to install these rpm on the machine so many dependencies error showing.
I have noticed an issue after upgrading to 11.4 with my sound. The sound works fine for the most part. The issue I have found is when playing a song in Amarok and then loading up a flash video, there is no sound on the flash video. If I pause amarok, then press play again on the flash video the sound will play in the video. Then if I go back to Amarok, the song won't play again until I close the firefox tab with the flash video. So naturally I figured it was an issue with my sound driver allowing multiple playback. However, I then went and loaded a video in VLC (an .avi) and the sound in vlc and amarok worked at the same time.
Since iBus replaced SCIM, I seem to be not able to typ any non-Latin text in any Flash app.For so far I'm using, it's Nicovideo.jp and LiveMocha.com.On Nicovideo.jp (aka, Nico Nico Douga), all the video, comments, and such are Flash based. And on LiveMocha, just the chat.Someone at MSN is able to typ Japanese, Chinees, Korean, etc. in Flash based things, using Microsoft IME.But can I also do this with iBus?
I am trying to make an iso boot from a 8GB SanDisk Cruzer USB drive through UNetBootin, and it's just not happening. I have tried several times, but always had the same disappointing result. It looks like when UNetBootin goes through the process of putting it on the flash drive, it completely skips aking it bootable. Any suggestions? Maybe it is just UNetBootin.
I am using Debian 5.0 (Lenny) upgraded from Debian 4.0 ( Etch). Being an upgraded install seems to make quite a difference in a number of areas as I am still running several applications which are no longer available due to lack of maintenance. I am running a number of applications that would simply not be available on a clean Debian 5.0 install.
I installed Adobe Flash 10 not from the Debian repository but using dpkg -i and the Ubuntu deb package from the Adobe website. The Flash version in the Debian repository was down level from the version I wanted installed. The install ran fine and the verification of flash in Iceweasel, Iceape, Chrome and the Gnome web browser all verified as version 10 on the Adobe web site.
Subsequently I discovered that Iceweasel was being misidentified as not running Flash 10 on a web site that required Flash 10. This was not happening with any of my other browsers. I looked in Tools/AddOns/Plugins in Iceweasel and found that Flash 9 and Flash 10 were both present. Disabling the Flash 9 plugin caused Flash verification to fail as if Flash were not on my system.
I did an apt-get remove flashplugin-nonfree which appears to have removed all traces of Flash 10. Now all of my browsers verify on the Adobe site as Flash 9 and work properly on all sites that require Flash 9 or lower. Looking in /usr/lib/iceweasel/plugins I see no flash plugin library at all. A Flash plugin library was in this folder until I did the above remove operation.
I do not understand how Flash 9 can be installed and operational and not have a library appear in the Iceweasel's plugins folder. Using dpkg -l as well as Synaptic I cannot seem to find a package to remove that would remove Flash 9.
Anyone know the name of a package I can remove to uninstall Flash 9?
Anyone know in what folder I might look for the Flash 9 library?
Anyone know if a fresh install of Iceweasel supports the automatic installation of Flash when visiting a web site that requires flash? This may well be how Flash was installed originally and part of the reason why I can find no reference to it in the expected folders.

I've just switched successfully from ubuntu to fedora today. Basically I am really happy with fedora, most problems I had I could solve (with the help of the Internet). However 2 major problem remain:
) I am unable to run .jar files. I've already installed the "Java" package from the repo, but it didn't help. When typing code...
worked without problems, however a quick test (.....) told me that flash isn't working. When I try downloading and installing flash manually from the adobe site I get a message that this package is already installed.
I'm using version 8.04 and have been prompted to upgrade to the latest version of flash, which I did, but although the new version is installed it's not being used by Firefox. I'm still getting the message to upgrade. The version of flash I have is 9.0 r262. Is this a bug? shouldn't Firefox automatically be using the latest version of flash?
My trash won't delete and it is causing me to not be able to use my flashdrive. When I tell my trash to empty it will either say it will but the files will still be there or it will say a can't b/c i didn't delete it from my trash(screenshot). I don't know what to do to get it to get rid of the files since I tried telling it to bypass the trash and that didn't do anything.
I'm getting 'File is broken' messages while trying to set up Ubuntu 10.04 on 4GB flash drive. Following instructions on [URL] I downloaded Ubuntu Desktop Edition - 32bit version. It shows up as:
ubuntu-10.04-desktop-i386.iso size on disk 542 MB (568,475,648 bytes)
I downloaded and ran the Universal USB Installer. It shows up as:
Universal-USB-Installer-v1.7.4.exe size on disk 816 KB (835,584 bytes)
I get 56 7-zip Diagnostic messages. A small sample shows:
0 C:Documents and SettingsMy Downloadsubuntu-10.04-desktop-i386.iso 1 Data error in '.diskcasper-uuid-generic'. File is broken

Should I download the iso file again, or have I missed something in the install? I'm running Windows XP sp3 on an IBM T60 Thinkpad
So here is my situation: I am unable to boot from a CD I am unable to boot from a Flash Drive I have Ubuntu installed with Wubi, and can boot into it successfully I have a Ubuntu Installation CD I have created a partition into which I'd like to install Ubuntu. Is it possible to boot into my current Wubi Ubuntu installation, and then launch the Ubuntu installer from the installation CD, and then direct this installation to the empty partition I have waiting?
Basically, I think my question is this: Does anybody know what file to run manually from the CD in order to launch the installer?
I've found some older threads with the same problem and read a few bug reports also. Nobody has a solution that has worked for me.How can I get Ubuntu 10.10 to be able to use something as basic as a usb drive?
I am trying to install ubuntu 11.04 from a bootable USB flash drive. As i couldnt create the USB using the inbuilt usb creator which came with the .iso file i had downloaded, i had used universal USB installer to create it. It took a lot of time to created the bootable pendrive.
I had copied the contents of the pendrive thus created to a folder on my hard disk and named it 'PENDRIVE'. Later i had formatted the pendrive and used it for other purposes.
Today, i wanted to install ubuntu on another computer, so i copied the contents of this folder to my pendrive (instead of creating a bootable usb drive using universal USB installer again) and renamed my pendrive as 'PENDRIVE'. But when i tried to boot from it (i had changed the boot order of my computer accordingly) i got this message, 'remove any removable cd or media and press any button to restart'. Until i removed the pendrive my system refused to start and i was unable to install ubuntu. Why did this happen?
Using Debian Lenny. I'm trying to label my usb flash drives. I checked on the Internet and found a page, but I can't get it to work: [URL]. I umounted the usb drive. I checked it with Debian:~# blkid /dev/sda1: UUID="B1CC-3C4F" TYPE="vfat"
But when I try to make a label I get this message: Debian:~# mlabel -i /dev/sda1 ::VFAT_DOC Can't open /dev/sda1: No such file or directory Cannot initialize '::' mlabel: Cannot initialize drive
If I try mlabel -i /dev/sda1 ::VFAT_DOC when the drive is mounted I get this output: Debian:~# mlabel -i /dev/sda1 ::VFAT_DOC Total number of sectors (7855032) not a multiple of sectors per track (62)! Add mtools_skip_check=1 to your .mtoolsrc file to skip this test but no label is attached to the drive.
I added this to /etc/mtools.conf: drive p: file=/dev/sdb1 and ran this command: mlabel p:VFAT_DOC and still can't get it to work Can't open /dev/sda1: No such file or directory Cannot initialize 'P:' mlabel: Cannot initialize drive
When I try: sudo apt-get purge flashplugin-installer I get: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done

Is there any way to force the removal of flashplugin-installer?
i recently installed fedora 12 freshly on my system. Later i installed firefox from fedora dvd. After it i install Adobe Flash 10.58 plugin to see videos or play games. But i m not able to do so. As firefox doesnt run video by flash player. I tried updating firefox. reinstalling firefox and adobe flash plugin but all in vain. Tell me frnds what should i do.
I do not seem to be able to install an updated Adobe flash.SUSE 11.0 Linux linux-3eb6 2.6.27.7-9-pae #1 SMP 2008-12-04 18:10:04 +0100 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux I have done an rpm --rebuilddb. The following seems incompatible.
# rpm --erase flash-plugin-10.0.45.2-release.i386.rpm error: package flash-plugin-10.0.45.2-release.i386.rpm is not installed # rpm --install flash-plugin-10.0.45.2-release.i386.rpm package flash-plugin-10.0.45.2-release is already installed
For some time now I have been unable to update flashplugin. I have been waiting the problem to fix itself, but no.
Here is what happens when I try to update flash:
Code: Select allrob@ace:~$ sudo update-flashplugin-nonfree --status Flash Player version installed on this system : 11.2.202.457 Flash Player version available on upstream site: 11.2.202.460 flash-mozilla.so - auto mode link currently points to /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so - priority 50
[Code] ....
The same thing happens on both my Debian Jessie machines..
Any way to force the update? Need to update their flashplugin on Jessie?
i recently installed fedora on my eeepc1000hd and im having problems installing simple programs. for example i download limewire or flash player for ..... and when they download they open up in the archive manager instead of opening up witht the install client.

i am running lubuntu and i have google chromium. i went to videos today, and i add to install adobe flash player, i tried downloading all type of ways (from the options list) but nothing work, how do i install adobe flash player on lubuntu?
I am relatively new to Fedora 15, but used 13 for a while with no issues. Yesterday a windows user put a flash drive into my computer for me to copy something on to. (This may be conincidental.) I then put the computer into suspend or hibernate or whatever and now it won't start up. At all. And I'm stuck as 'everything' I need is on that computer.
When system is playing a media ( e.g. sth.mp3 ) by a media player like Totem, then I open a browser and forward to a page that should play sounds, but everything is pretty normal except the sounds ( I mean there's no sound ).
When firstly open a browser to surf the pages. If there's sound played in the browser, I can't play a audio media in a standalone player ( e.g. Totem ) before I close the browser. But If there isn't any sound played in browser, the outside player will work normally.
The 2 situations happens between no matter Chrome or Firefox and a outside player. I guess there maybe a conflict between gstreamer and adobe flash player. But I am not sure what happened in my system.
I have recently installed Ubuntu 11.04 from the alternative installation CD; the installation was just the command line system. On top of this I have installed xorg and awesome window manager. The only problem I am having is with sound; I am unable to hear sound played through both browser-based Flash and locally stored files.
Is there something that I have to do before I can use sound? Edit: I have solved the original problem however I would like to know if I can remove pulseaudio as it seems that I am only using alsa.
