I couldn't connect my Micromax 300G modem in Debian Linux. From internet (in Windows Vista), I came across the information of USB_ModeSwitch and then I downloaded it. While going to install it, I came across the problem that TCL-interpreter is not available in Debian Linux. Then again I restarted my laptop in Windows Vista and connected my Micromax modem and from internet downloaded TCL8.5.10-src.tar.gz. But while going to install it, I came across the problem that " configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH " . Also as presently, I am unable to connect my modem therefore I am unable to issue the code:" apt-get update ".

I have Motorola Netopia DSL (NO router) and can't connect to the internet in ANY linux distro (openSUSE, fedora, slax, mandriva, simplymepis, mint, dreamlinux, ubuntu, ubuntu studio, artist linux). The only linux distro that works right away is backtrack linux 3. All other distro do not work including new back track linux 4 because in version 4 they switched to debian. My ISP is Bellsouth and they do not want to cooperate. I was told they do not support linux.
DSL shows internet and activity lights green but it does not connect.It seems to me problem is in eth0 because when I go to terminal and ifup eth0 it gives me can't assign requested address. I have dynamic DHCP and can't assign static address.I have 2 questions:

I run all linux distros from live CD/DVD from external DVD drive except fedora which is on C: drive.I did try to run already network devices, dsl configuration without any results If I can go to my modem thru browser address 192.168.1.254 I would be able to solve the problem but I always get message can't connect to server.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to connect to my corporate VPN using a laptop running Ubuntu 10.04. It's a company laptop but as I have chosen to run Linux rather than "a proper" OS, I'm mostly on-my-own as far as getting these things working. Normally that's OK because I am almost always successful - except this problem has had me stumped for several weeks now.
The problem is that I am unable to access the VPN from my home network. I am using the Gnome Network Manager interface to configure the PPTP connection but no matter what combination of options, domainusername formats, encryption options or authentication methods I select, I get the exact same behaviour, which is essentially a 10-second wait, and then a failure message. I checked /var/log/daemon.log:

the laptop is connecting to the Internet via a WiFi access point (bridge mode), then an ADSL router. PPTP pass-through is enabled on the ADSL router and Access Point. if I connect the laptop to the ADSL with an ethernet cable (to eliminate the WiFi), there is no improvement. another laptop (running Mac OSX) is able to connect to the VPN, via WiFi or cable. another client, Windows7, is able to connect to the VPN via cable. an iPhone is able to connect to the VPN via WiFi. this laptop is able to connect to the VPN from inside the corporate firewall.
So I've got three other devices that are able to connect to the target PPTP VPN, and a laptop that can't, except when I move the laptop inside the target network, it can connect. I've tried methodically selecting various VPN options with no change in result. I've also read several Ubuntu Forum posts suggesting turning off EAP and that doesn't help either. I'm now at a loss how to fix this, and what will happen next is I'll be told by Management "we told you so", drop Linux and switch to a "proper" OS like Windows instead, which I really don't want to do.

Squid sent the following FTP command:
PASS <yourpassword>and then received this reply User anonymous cannot log in.Your cache administrator is root.
I'm able to browse anonymous FTP sites like ftp://ftp.ea.com, but not any with authentication.

http_access allow ftp
but still can't connect. I also can't connect to secure port 443 for an application in th network.
when i connect the machines outside te SQUID i can use the ftp and secure ports.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Slackware 13. Apache has been configured and running. That is to say, I can access the server pages on my machine locally using the current DHCP IP address.
However I'm unable to access it from outside (say from a friends's house) using the same DHCP IP address. I read on the internet somewhere that some DSL providers disable port 80 to prevent individuals from hosting. I don't know if that's the case but I did try specifying different ports in httpd.conf and added the port number to the IP address URL but still didn't work.

I saw some LQ threads which said that the problem could be in the firewall. I don't think I have a firewall but I'm not sure. How do I know that?
I'm just trying some stuff without much concern for security at this point. I understand that a DHCP address can change but for now I don't mind entering the IP address explicitly.
On the server having live ip address, I have installed vnc server using:

On my local machine connected to internet via LAN, I have installed vnc viewer using: yum install vnc When I connect to the vnc server using vncviewer ipaddressofvncserver:1 it shows unable to connect to host. No route to host (113)

I have Cisco Switch 2960, and it has been configured with dhcp (from 192.168.43.31 to 192.168.43.) and all my client connected to It. I have a modem and Its IP is 192.168.1.1, I used Fedora Linux system in between Modem and Switch , and made IP forwarding (Only one ethernet port is avaliable in Fedora Linux System), so that I can use the Internet through out the LAN. But When I try to ping modem form client system, I get an message

I am unable to connect to the Internet using a wired connection. I was able to use the wired network yesterday. But I had problems with the flash player, so had to reinstall Ubuntu again. I am able to connect to Internet using wireless connection. But I need to connect to the wired connection. I am using Ubuntu 10. My wireless network is being detected but it refuses to connect to it. I am entering the accurate passcode and I have tried doing various commands for it to work, but it is being stubborn.

I was told by an experienced Linux user/IT professional that older Broadcom wireless cards had embedded code preventing access through non-Windows OS's. I was told that there were drivers that were basically "hacks" for skirting this issue. I've tried two different drivers and neither seems to be doing the trick. My current driver is the "Broadcom STA wireless driver".

I have got a netgear wireless PC Card WG511 made in Taiwan (not china). I have intalled it in windows w/acouple of ver. Settling on v1. I am first generation pc. maybe toold for Linux? I can't even figure out how to post in the Dam Small Linux website. But have read most of the posts in linux questions. I can't install a wireless card ;<( this is an old laptop and would be like usable if I get the *&^%$ wireless working. In fact, does anyone have a wireless card working with Dam Small Linux? I have the book but, it's not been much help. Other that telling me to add nodhcp in the boot startup. That didn't help either. I have learned alot through this misery of the wireless nic.

The Windows machine does not update or change, and I cannot imagine that I changed something myself at that machine...
I can still reach it using "smb://192.168.1.33/"
But when I try Remotedesktop Client with that IP it gives the message;

When I try using Terminal Server Client (I read in another thread that could solve the problem) I get the same response...
Where can I find out what the problem is?
