General :: Ubuntu 10.04 - Access VNC On A Server Without Having Been Logged In To The Machine First?

Possible Duplicate: Automatically start VNC server on startup I have a Linux server at home, and by default no-one is logged in to that box. I'd like to establish a remote desktop connection to it with VNC but this fails, unless I log in first physically. It's strange to me that VNC Viewer doesn't even ask for credentials, it just displays a "connection refused" error message. What's the best way to do this? I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 on the server.

Whenever I put ssh into remote machine am getting the following messages. Write Failed: Broken Pipe (After logged into that machine ) Read Socket Failed: Connection reset by peer (While trying to log in ) Also known_hosts file is changed frequently.

I need to access a Windows Server 2000 machine using a Linux machine via KDE, but that will migrate to Gnome. The Linux user to connect to Windows machine, you should open an application 'XYZ' automatically, and only this, denying any unauthorized access. When you close the application 'XYZ' communications (RDP?) Should be terminated. Do I need a log of accesses and possible attempts to circumvent the system and access other application.

I need to deploy Windows Server 2008 R2 onto a server that is currently running Linux. Effectively, I want to restore a Windows disk image onto the Linux system hard disk.I don't have physical access to the machine, so I need to find a way to do everything remotely, using SSH (no KVM). And the Linux machine only has one hard disk - the one containing the OS. However, I might be able to create a partition in free space at the end of the hard disk to store the image (I might need some help with the Linux commands). Or perhaps the image file can be pulled via FTP.
I tried Acronis but was disappointed to find that it doesn't seem to allow me to overwrite the system partition (unlike the Windows version of Acronis, which is capable of doing this with a restart).

When I'm logged on to another host (e.g via ssh), how do I connect to the XServer of that machine (same user is logged in and is running a desktop (gnome))?
You may ask way I wish to do that: There are commands that don't open an X-Window, e.g. xinput, xhost, etc.. and there are situations where you want to run them from remote.

I have a weird issue where all of the machines in my office can all connect to our web server, either via DNS or using the server IP directly. However, on my machine, which is using the same network IP as the rest of the office and I know it's not being blacklisted, I can't access the server at all via SSH or web or mail. I'm the only machine running Linux, I've flushed the network cache using nscd, but this made no difference. Can anyone think of what might be going on here?

I have set up a 5.5 installation on a Virtual box VM. The Virtualbox (not for the VM) network preferences have DHCP Server disabled and IPV address and the network mask I believe are valid for my home network. My VM is up and running and it has gotten an IP address from my home router and everything seems fine. From any machine in my house I can ssh into my centos installation. I went ahead and started up the httpd service and the website is up. IOW, I can see it from my centos box - when I navigate to http://localhost However, I cannot see it from any other machine on the net. The IP address of the centos bos is 192.168.0.141. From the centos I can do a ttp://192.168.0.141 and see the Apache 2 test Page. I can see that from anywhere else. Although I can ssh to that machine.

Im having trouble setting my SAMBA server correctly. I have two Win machines, one with WIN7 and one with XP. I have one Ubuntu machine and Ubuntu Server 10.04. My problem is that I can only acess files from the Win 7 Machine. When I try to map out the shared dirs on my serverI get asked for user and password, when I enter my creditensials it dosent help.. After a battle with Ubuntu, Django, Apache and wsgi i could reach the website i set up from another computer via ip-adress (10.37.129.6). i then restarted the server and after booting tried to access the website from outside - permission to / denied with the usual 403 error. trying to fix that, i logged in to the server and suddenly the website was available again. typed logout on the server - no access wt. 403. logged in - website can be accessed.i somehow suspect this is some strange permission problem, but i don't have a clue where to start searching. errorlogs just contain information that a / access request has been denied.

I try to access my ubuntu machine via my Windows Machine (Samba Server on Ubuntu Machine). Anytime I try to access the machine it asks me for my password...I enter it but it says it is invalid....is there anyway to reset it? I have already tried to remove and purge everything Samba related and then tried reinstalling, but that still didn't do anything

I want to backup some data on my Fedora box to a external Hard Disk (USB). I mounted the external HD on my box. I wrote a bash script to do that and I scheduled a cronjob to execute the script. When I am online the script executes as planned. However when I am logged out the copy does not work. I also tested this with a cifs mount (via fstab) and that does not work either. I set the script to generate some output at the end and that is OK so the script does run when I am offline. I suppose the mounted locations are not reachable while logged out, is that correct? Is there a workaround so I can reach the mounted locations while logged out?

I've run into a weird problem. Two of my linux machines (A and B, both running CentOS 5.5) are connected to the same wall ethernet socket via a hub. Bothf them are configured for static IPs. The trouble is that when machine B goes offline or hits a kernel panic, machine 1 goes offline too. This is the set up I have: PC downstairs by a tv, with 3TB of storage containing my media, connected to the tv too. HTPC upstairs by another tv and connected to it. A few laptops and other desktops around the house which are windows based
I want the downstairs pc to act as a file server and to run my torrent client, it is running Ubuntu desktop version and has xbmc installed too for use with the tv. The upstairs htpc has xbmc live on and will access the media from the file server. What I am looking to do is to be able to log into my ubuntu machine remotely from a laptop running windows so I can manage the files and add torrents for download etc, but for this to be a complete remote session, rather than taking control over what is already being shown on the downstairs pc, like VNC does in windows.
I have two user accounts set up on the main ubuntu machine, the admin account and a media user account which is set to go straight to xbmc after log in. Also how can I make sure that the media drives are automatically mounted to allow access if the admin user is not logged in?
