I've tried iptables save, iptables-save and iptables save active.
"iptables save" and "iptables save active" give me an invalid argument error. "iptables-save" isn't a valid command. "iptables --help" gives me a list of valid switches, none of which have to do with saving.
I have Ubuntu 9.10 dual booting with Windows7.My ext3 /home is mounted as F: in windows.I share a firefox profile between them so that when i am in Windows my firefox uses the same profile as it does when in Ubuntu. It all worked great until recently. I am unable to save files by right clicking and save as. In the config i am unable to set a directory to save to. It neer asks me where to save to. Just nothing happens. some off my book marks are all messed up as well, my rss feeds have the same post on some random website every time i log on and i have to manually refresh to get the correct feeds back. I am unable to delete the random bookmark.

Config a CentOS iptables.I issued some iptables rules.the rules were effective at once. Then, I came with a "iptables-save", but the "/etc/sysconfig/iptables" file hasn't been updated, it still loads the defaults rules with CentOS after reboot.

I just finished working on my teacher's paper, which is due to her an hour ago... For 2 hours I've been trying to find my paper anywhere on ubuntu, or my windows installation. It is nowhere, anymore. The paper took me 4 hours to type up, and I JUST saved it onto my windows installation. The desktop of my user profile, to be exact. I restarted to windows to print it off, but it wasn't on my desktop. First reaction: FFUUU, wait backup. SO I went to my backup directory of linux. Guess what: Nothing there.... Any way of gettin my work back without retyping all 8 pages?
What standard do you adhere to when saving and you're the only user of the server(root)? Take downloaded files for instance:In my experience I often find people putting downloaded files in /opt, /usr/src/, /usr/local/ etc.I would like to know if ther is a standard like would have in Windows. Everyone knows where the Download directory is in windows
My old computer ran xubuntu and I haven't recently remembered the password. When I go to recovery mode, I see no recovery menu that would lend me to changing my password.I have also tried burning xubuntu, edubuntu , and a few other linux distributions , but they have all failed in the burning process. I have used three iso burners and they have all failed to burn.
I've been having some PC troubles since yesterday after downloading VistaOSx onto my computer. (I don't know why I downloaded it, I was bored.) Well now I have a virus on my computer that wont let windows start. Every time I go to turn on my computer, I get a black screen with just my mouse pointer.
So, I went looking for the disk that the guys at FRY'S gave me after they worked on my computer, and it was an MSI disk, and I booted from it, and now I'm in some OS called Winki 3 which is linux based and I don't know what I'm doing, to my surprise, I'm online.
I need to be able to get my computer working again, and I don't want to loose any of my files if I have to reinstall windows. I have a few questions before I start getting into this and try to get my computer to work but only mess it up worse.
1) What in the world is Winki 3? I've never heard of it.
2) How can I execute a .exe file? I'm trying to see if I can run my virus scan to get rid of whatever it is that is screwing with my computer.
3) I can see all my program files and everything, so I need to save some stuff on my USB's in case I do need to reinstall windows so that way I don't loose anything. How do I do that?
4) I know this isn't a place to ask windows questions, but I must. I don't have a restore disk, or a reboot disk or whatever, just this MSI disk that brought me to this Winki 3. How can I restore my computer without the restore disk, and without taking it to some place that's going to charge me an arm and a leg? There has to be some way, I mean I have this Winki 3 running, I should be able to do something that will restore the computer back to the default factory settings after I save all my files onto my USB's, right?
I've recently lost my window options, had to somehow manipulate my way to Xchat and ask some people how do I get it back (it was metacity --replace, and after I decided to stop the command and run it in background the X was completely useless so I had to do killall -u user). And that was after the internet connection stopped working for some reason (might've been the ISP).
The thing is, after using linux a long time, I still get the feeling that on dire situations, I don't know the good tricks (stuff like metacity --replace). I feel like a really need like a "rescue" cheatsheet for things like: how to save the X no matter what without pressing reset how to reset the system to "normal state" how to connect to the internet through the command line how to monitor what the X is doing (using ubuntu linux 10.04 btw)
I am doing a Linux installation. I installed the system fine and am trying to change the vi /etc/hosts file. I have edited the file but am not sure how to save it. I have --INSERT-- showing at the bottom.
I'm using ArchLinux and I have an IP tables rule that I know works (from my other server), and it's in /etc/iptables/iptables.rules, it's the only rule set in that directory. I run, /etc/rc.d/iptables save, then /etc/rc.d/iptables/restart, but when I do "iptables --list", I get ACCEPTs on INPUT,FORWARD & OUTPUT.

is there any way to specify the destination directory for each download in apt -get command to save all the downloaded packages in a custom directory instead of archive directory for offline use.If yes then how to use this custom directory to reinstall application ?
I run Elyssa and have a symbol of a padlock at the bottom right side. This is for updates on software. It tells me that I have 351 updates available. when I open this the updates are shown and each have a number.Mainly 2's and 3's. when I do press the install update button, it gives me the following message: warning you are about to install software that can not be authenticated.... This message worries me so I have not done any updates for a loooooong time. What shall I do? How can I tell what is malicious and what is not? does anyone out there know?
Is there a way to keep the application sources after being installed by Software Manager(using Linux Mint)? ex, i install opera browser via the software manager and maybe i try to re-install the linux in a month and i don't wanna download all the softwares again. is there a executable file like EXE or DMG which i can keep after downloaded?
How can I save a file in /usr/local/lib/cnet? I'm trying to save a GIF image in the CNET resource folder to use for a simulation. It says permission denied, and when I try to chmod the folder it gives me the error "not permitted".
How do I set ls so that when I type ls it actually runs ls -l. This Sounds minor but I'm trying to save keystrokes wherever I can. This is on Ubuntu 10.10.
We have several HP Thin-Clients of type t5545 in use. We redirect USB-Media to the terminalserver. Because the t5545 runs a debian customized by hp, we can treat it like a debian in some way.First, I'll explain how usb-redirection is configured: automatically mount it to /tmp/tmpfs/media /tmp/tmpfs/media is redirected as disk "Z" via rdesktop-parameter -r disk:sharename=path in case of removed usb-media udev will run a script to umount -l the device and delete the mountpointThe environment:
Thin-Clients run linux: root@mac-addr:/tmp/tmpfs/media# uname -a Linux mac-addr 2.6.26-2-686 1 SMP Wed Nov 4 20:45:37 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux Terminalserver runs Windows Server 2008 R2
I have copied some vides from my camcorder and the size seems a bit excessive - 140mb for 3 mins! Is there a program I can use to save the .mp2 file as .mpg and reduce the size?
I am trying to figure out a way to make my own cd script.. i thought that prompting the user to type in her destination then saving that input to PATH system variable will get it done! but it does'nt work here what i made (i think it's not that smart!)
I have just installed KDE 4.4 on Fedora 12 in addition to GNOME. The default Display resolution is the highest available. I changed it to a lower resolution. However, when I reboot, the resolution switches back to the default setting.
I want to save a xgraph derived by performance comparison of reactive and proactive protocols in MANET.. For doing this, I clicked the hardcopy button and select the device/file to save the file... but nothing happens... and 1 more query is that i have searched the whole Internet to find why the packets are not transferring in Tora...But I could not find it.
When I change the display resolution and refresh rate in system settings, those values will be reset to default every time I restart the computer. Is there a way to save the values, so that I don't have to change them again every time? I use Kubuntu 10.4. Another problem I have is that when I choose Leave / Sleep (Suspend to RAM), the computer will sometimes be locked, so that it never wakes up again. I can hear when this occurs, because then the cooling fan(s) will stay on. Normally, when Sleep works, the fans are turned off, because the computer goes into energy saving mode. i noticed the occasional sleep problem already in Kubuntu 9.10.
just started with Linux and I'm trying to create new files for each line of my input file. So I have file with 637 lines of data:
2 4 6 2 8 5 3 0 5 etc
and want to create a new file from each line. With
cat name.txt | awk '{ line = $0 print line }'
I nicely see all lines, but what rests is to save each line separately into new file. I tried While read line command in combination with output >> $.txt, but didn't work well..
