View 5 Replies View RelatedI just switched from Windows to Linux. I've been using EditPlus for many years mainly because of it's ability to save locally, and then send the file via FTP, with easy keyboard shortcuts (ctrl-s to save, ctrl-alt-s to ftp).
I also need syntax highlighting and basic code editing features. Is there anything for Linux that can do this? I don't want to run EditPlus via Wine
I need to save locally and remotely simultaneously, or at least with a few keystrokes. I already know of plenty of ways to edit remote files.
I had edited the bashsr file wrongly in my ubuntu while trying to put a "export" command in bashsr for javac. Next when i am writing sudo , its saying :
Command 'sudo' is available in '/usr/bin/sudo'
The command could not be located because '/usr/bin' is not included in the PATH environment variable. sudo: command not found
I try to name a file in the editor with this and nothing happens...(creating a conky_start.sh file under home directory and add it to start up)$cd && touch conky_start.sh && chmod +x conky_start.sh && gedit conky_start.shAnd add these lines to that file and save it :
#!/bin/bash
sleep 30 &&
exec conky -d -c ~/.conkyrc &

I've looked at tutorials but can't find out how to save a cron job in nano text editor.
I open crontab with
Quote:
crontab -e
The cron job I want to save is
Quote:
wget --output-document=dwr_$(date +\%Y\%m\%d\%H\%M).gif http://imd.gov.in/section/dwr/img/caz_chn.gif
So now I've got this in nano text editor
Quote:
# m h dom mon dow command
wget --output-document=dwr_$(date +\%Y\%m\%d\%H\%M).gif http://imd.gov.in/section/dwr/img/caz_chn.gif
What exactly do I do now to save the cron job? File doesn't have a Save As option,;just Open Terminal, Open Tab and New Profile.
I unpacked a .zip file, and it gave me two directories. Which file must I edit, and how do I integrate the two dir into the edited file?
View 3 Replies View RelatedLast week I attempted to install some software on my computer (on ubuntu) and I edited a couple of files now I can't update ubuntu. I get 2 error messages:
1. Not all updates can be installed.
- I select partial update
2.Could not calculate the upgrade
An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade:
E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.
This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
This is most likely a transient problem, please try again later.
How can I resolve this issue. I don't remember what files I edited to reverse the damage.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using Ubuntu and looking for a good editor to edit a file that is > 4GB. I just need to put content at the end and beginning of the file. I suppose I could use something like
cat "text to add" >> huge_file
To append to the file. Is that the route to go? What about prepending? In general, what is the best route if I wanted to edit somewhere in the middle?
I've tried VIM and it fails miserably. I assume emacs and nano would be even worse. What else is there? I assume to accomplish what I am looking for, the editor would have to be specifically designed for this by not keeping the entirety of the file's contents in memory.
I'm running Linux lnx3-228 2.6.18-164.el5 #1 SMP Tue Aug 18 15:51:48 EDT 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

When I try to install ctags for vim editor, it gives me the following error. error while loading shared libraries: libldap.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
When I look into the /usr/lib folder, the file is naturally missing. I have this file.
When I tried to rename the soft link to libldap.so.2 it gave me a segmentation fault.
Where do I install the packages from ?
How can I save a file in /usr/local/lib/cnet? I'm trying to save a GIF image in the CNET resource folder to use for a simulation. It says permission denied, and when I try to chmod the folder it gives me the error "not permitted".

View 6 Replies View Relatedjust started with Linux and I'm trying to create new files for each line of my input file. So I have file with 637 lines of data:
2 4 6
2 8 5
3 0 5
etc
and want to create a new file from each line. With
cat name.txt | awk '{ line = $0
print line
}'
I nicely see all lines, but what rests is to save each line separately into new file. I tried While read line command in combination with output >> $.txt, but didn't work well..

user@unknown:~$ sudo command -option > log
to save the results of "command" to the file "log", but I'd like to also get the result on the terminal, is this possible?

For example, I run a program called "luck" and it outputs a sentence like "good luck". I am using Xfce as the desktop enviroment and Mozilla Firefox as the webrowser. Within the webrowser window, I do File>Save Page As. I save it, and the result is almost always foo.html and directory foo_files. But I think under KDE I could choose the format, one of them being something like "Single page" (only one file; the colecction of .png, etc is embedded into that file). And this is the format I want Xfce (or Firefox) to use when downloading to hdd.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi have custom programs written in Basis pro5. Standard output to a pdf virtual printer works fine. Using pdftk to overlay on to a form is hit or miss.... There are products out there like Unform that are just too expensive for my company. i have purchased another product from a company that prints the forms to the laser perfectly but i am incapable of capturing them and saving them as pdf's for archiving/emailing/faxing and i don't much care for this company.
