Google searching mostly revealed PPT -> movie export and/or <other> -> PDF, but I am planning on creating my slideshows with LaTeX Beamer, and would then like to record a video of my slides with my speech in voiceover. Furthermore, I am planning on posting these online and would really like to be able to embed hyperlinks, if possible, into the videos as they reference each other and/or external references.

now Pitivi comes standard with the newest install of ubuntu, but it sucks, sorry, its has nothing, or im missing something, and for LiVES I just cant seem to get it to do what I want, its very confusing, I just want something with a simple UI like WMM or something along those lines, it doenst have to be linux based, but if your going to give me something that doenst work fresh install,

The problem with this is that each image is then stretched to fit on one page, whereas I would like to keep the original dimensions of the images and put as many as possible on one page in the PDF file before moving on to another page.

Sep 21, 2009I am just spent half an hour hunting for a thing that should be totally available already:USB install images of Ubuntu, knoppix and all the others.And, the only good way are so far complicated tutorials where you extract the stuff from an CD image. Why??Hasn't everybody notices that CDs/DVDs are vanishing big time? That more and more systems don't have the readers anymore? Instead of following a 10 point instruction list, it would be nice to just be able to download a Ubuntu 8.10 or whatever USB image and be able to beam that DIRECTLY to a USB stick with a dd command.
Or am a missing something here? Does this exist?It should by no means be mariginal, considering how important USB stick in specific and flash memory in general have become.

Oct 23, 2010I want to create a video dvd to run same on my dvd player. I used Avidemux to open my desired video and saved(k) on my desktop. Options chosen at that time were:
Video --> MPEG-2 requant
Audio --> Copy
Format--> MPEG-PS(A+V)
These two files were were saved on my desktop naming "k" and "k.idx".Now , i don't know how to use "k3b" to make my video DVD.
General :: Enough Memory - GIMP Slideshow Runs Very Slowly
Jan 2, 2010Just wiped Windows on a Dell Inspiron 8000 and installed Ubuntu. Most things going well but ran GIMP today and noticed the dissolve very slow. Think I might need more memory? I typed $ free -m and got this:

I take this to mean I have 500MB of memory but most of it is used up on something? Does this explain why opening new windows incurs a lag of a few seconds and my GIMP slideshow runs very slowly? I was a pretty good Windows user but know very little about Linux.

Dec 6, 2010I have a very big image directory: One image per minute, whole a year, captured from a webcam. Now I want to make a video (15 or 24FPS) with all the webcam captures, to see how it changed during this period. I've tried automotion, but it makes a very low quality video, besides it blocks with lots of images. I've also tried dvd-slideshow, but it's not possible to make a more-than-1FPS video.
I also need to change the date in each webcam's images, because they are wrong, so it needed to overlay a little layout with the right date for each image, is that possible to manage within some application? Preferibly shell applications which supports lots of Gb of information (anyway I always could make little videos and then glue them)
Ubuntu :: Different Video Effects In KDE And Firefox Using Flash?
Apr 19, 2011since some time I notice a real disturbing video effect: I use Firefox 4 and Adobe Flash 10 (current version). When opening a web page which contains a flash video this video keeps part of the screen on both (!) desktops. (see attached pictures) Closing or minimizing all programs the video window is invisible. The video window will appear each time a program - any program! - window does appear above the area where this video windows is placed. I open Kate or OpenOffice or any other program and video window will appear again - see pic #1.
No matter if the video was started or not, the effect does happen everytime. No matter if the FF tab or the entire browser was closed or not, the effect will stay until X-Server restart. Even if I switch to the second desktop, the effect will appear. For example I launched Virtualbox on the 2nd desktop, open a Win XP system - the entire desktop background is blue. I opened Chrome and the video window from desktop #1 appears within the Chrome window. (see pic 2) The effect will not appear into screendumps, so I used my smartphone cam for both pictures:
#1: after opening www.tagesschau.de I closed firefox and re-opened FF with another web page. You can see the video screen from tagessschau.de within the heise.de page.
#2: then I switched to desktop #2, run WinXP into a Virtualbox window and launched Chrome.

As I do remember this effect happens since Flash 10. Unfortunately it is nearly unimpossible to use Internet without an installed Adobe Flash 10. If it would be possible I would remove Flash immidiately from any computer.

it is working fine. but the screen is very small and it is in middle, How to make that full screen and the letters which is in terminal is also coming along with the video.

I have never actually used photolapse but it seems to be the software I am looking for, only problem is that it's for windows. So I've installed Wine and downloaded the photolapse.exe anyway but it won't open with wine so I don't know if that because it's not compatible? Or because I've done something wrong? I'd really appreciate it if someone could recommend a programme similar to photolapse that works in ubuntu or if someone could help me get photolapse working through wine.

Jun 3, 2010I have played around a bit with the Open Shot Video Editor and just download Kdenlive. I am trying to teach myself how to create and edit videos by inserting music, transitions, etc. However, I want to add special effects such as fireworks, explosions, get text to light up, blur, etc, and add sparkle type effects. I know Open Shot won't do this and it does not look likve Kdenlive will either. Trying to find something that will jazz my videos and almost give them a semi professional quality to them. Is there any other Open Source video editor type program that can do special effects like what I am looking for?

Jul 11, 2010I just installed linux Mint 9, although I was having the same exact problem with ubuntu 10.04. Just testing mint out for a bit. I am running on the 64 bit OS. When I got to select advanced visual effects, It goes to enable the drivers but then I get this message.
"SystemError: Failed to fetch [url] Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.45 80]"
It used to work before but then just stopped one day when I booted up. I use Docky, and it won't work without the drivers because it requires compositing to work properly. I am using a Nvidia GTX 260 video card if that has anything to do with it.

Jul 12, 2009how I can make desktop effects work on F11. it used to work on F10. Now I get the garbled screen every time I enable it on gnome.Google search said to disable the metacity composite manager using gconf-editor but I'm not sure I know how to do it. When I type in gconf-editor it just opens a blank configuration screen . It would be better if someone one can help me how to do it probably on the command line, also what is the equivalent of xorg.conf on F11.

Aug 1, 2010I recently install Ubuntu 10.04 on my computer and enabled the top effects option when choosing desktop background, screensavers etc. It worked fine for a couple of days then started to take about 3-5 seconds up maximize any program it ran - it minizes them instantly but takes ages the opposite way around.
My laptop has a core duo processor, 3gb of RAM, a ATI 3400 512mb graphics card, when I ran Vista on it, it could easily handle Vista built in effects and run Crysis well on low settings - I very much doubt the problem is that my computer isnt powerful enough. Is there anyway I can get Ubuntu's special effects to work properly again? Atm normal effects wont work either - I am having to use the No Effects option.

Jul 19, 2010Today I noticed that I cannot enable visual effects on my computer. When I try to enable them, the screen flickers, enables the effects for just a moment, then flickers back to the previous screen with a dialogue box that says "visual effects could not be enabled". This is very strange because I was able to enable them when I first installed Ubuntu (in fact, I ran the "extra" visual effects for a while until I decided that it slowed my computer down too much). I don't know if it is possible that this has something to do with the most recent updates?
I'm not sure exactly what graphics card I have, but it is an ATI Radeon of some sort.

Jun 18, 2009I have a Geforce 9300 GS installed in my machine I am using 64 bit Gnome with a 64 bit system I downloaded this: Now my video won't show any effects and the Nvidia card won't work? This doesn't make any sense. Frustration to the max. I should have stayed with Fedora 10 at least it worked with downloadable drivers.
