General :: Record PDF Slideshow To Video With Voiceover?
Feb 24, 2011
I am looking for a linux-based solution that will let me record a PDF slideshow to a video file with a voiceover. Google searching mostly revealed PPT -> movie export and/or <other> -> PDF, but I am planning on creating my slideshows with LaTeX Beamer, and would then like to record a video of my slides with my speech in voiceover. Furthermore, I am planning on posting these online and would really like to be able to embed hyperlinks, if possible, into the videos as they reference each other and/or external references.

I have done this in the past with little effort using a easy to use GUI picture editor. Now I can seem to find the function in any program I have installed. I have digikam, fspot and gthumb image viewer. I am now not sure if I lost the program that I had been using in an update or if I am just looking in the wrong place.
In short, can someone suggest a simple way to group together jeps as a video with audio in the background. I want to be able to upload these to ......

For those not familiar with the "motion" project it monitors your camera and when enough motion is detected in the video field of view it records that to a video file. The project website is here What I'm looking for is something like that but for audio, does anyone know of any Linux apps that can accomplish this?

For some reason, I cannot record video with cheese. I cannot record video and audio on ....., just video. I can record audio on sound recorder. Why can't I get both? I have an e-machines (acer)em-250, 2g ram, 2ghz intel atom processor. Using Moon Os 4 neak (ubuntu 10.10 variant). I have downloaded and installed ffmpeg, and all other codecs. I can also get video on google voice and video, but no audio. Obviously I have a built-in webcam and mic. I've had this problem with every ubuntu distro I've tried since Oct. of 2010. This netbook came with Win. xp, and I had no problems with this issue then. I would just REALLY like to be able to use my webcam and be able to record video and audio.

I'm having a problem using cheese to record video from my webcam. The image is extremely slow to update. Especially when there is lots of movement it sometimes freezes for about a second.
When I use the webcam in Skype it works fine. Does anybody have a clue what might cause this and better yet, how to fix it.

Just wiped Windows on a Dell Inspiron 8000 and installed Ubuntu. Most things going well but ran GIMP today and noticed the dissolve very slow. Think I might need more memory? I typed $ free -m and got this:
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 497 483 14 0 15 215
-/+ buffers/cache: 251 245
Swap: 839 43 796
I take this to mean I have 500MB of memory but most of it is used up on something? Does this explain why opening new windows incurs a lag of a few seconds and my GIMP slideshow runs very slowly? I was a pretty good Windows user but know very little about Linux.

I have an idea to install a video-camera to record 24/7 the place in the yard where the car will be kept. Can not say that I'll configure such a system for sure, but I have an interest to it. On the other hand I've never worked with such systems and I don't know what cameras are better, should they be IP-based or the USB-webcam will be OK, I also do not know much about the software. I've found that gphoto is a good software for such a purppose, and some photo-cameras can be managed remotely through console, I mean that we can take pictures/?video?
Remotely, if the camera is connected to the Linix-box via USB. Another soft, which I googled, which (as I understood) is de-facto and which is powerful, is ZoneMinder. Today a friend of mine told me that many IP-cameras have everything inside them (a webserver, many tools for capturing video/photo and so on), so I just need to create some directory on the PC, where it will store all photos/videos. So, as you see, I know practically nothing about all this. That's why I decided to listen to you, what software and photo/video cameras would you recommend me.

Have a television card on the computer. Works perfectly well and it would be nice to use the computer as a television program recorder. Buggering about with a DVD recorder is a lot of trouble. How is it possible to do this - surely pretty basic - job? Buggered if I know. It is important to compress the thing into *.avi format or something like that. Otherwise it takes up a huge amount of space.

Need a Linux solution for looped slideshow from pictures in some folder. Pictures may be deleted and added, so it's a bonus if it doesn't stop/crash if currently shown picture is deleted.

I need to be able to schedule and automate the recording process, to record DV with audio directly to the hard drive. Can anyone tell me if this is possible with linux? Can anyone suggest hardware/applications that would work to accomplish this? This is not for security purposes. This is to record classes that will be made available online.

In the KDE 3.5 desktop wallpaper settings, I would like to use a slideshow. But the pictures I want are on another partition on my HD, and KDE says "You can only select local files." That sounds stupid to me, because as far as I'm concerned, those files are local; is it that hard to access the other partition? Is there any way I can get around this besides moving the files to my home folder (I don't want to)?

I'm seeking a program to effectively create a slideshow/movie of pictures with the possibility of adding audio tracks to the slideshow. The reason I call this slideshow is that I will entirely use static pictures instead of video.Transition effects would be cool and subtitling, too, but not a must.

A good app that would allow me to select some pics (like of the Christchurch earthquake) that would make up a slideshow for a desktop background, instead of a static pic? I know Mac's have the ability to do this, and am curious as to what is available for Ubuntu.

I'm looking for a script to automatically open and play a PDF slideshow. The slideshow is saved in PDF format using powerpoint. Are there any good programs out there that I can use to play a pdf slideshow.
We tried to implement this while in its original PPT format but there are just too many issues. Here is the original script I wrote to open the PPT file using pptviewer
Code:
#!/bin/bash
echo "OK, starting now..."
export DISPLAY=:0.0
[Code]...
Then using cron, the scripts are run at the appropriate times. Basically I am just looking for a program that will play a PDF as a slideshow. I will use OpenOffice if I can but I would rather not because we have had problems with it. Plus im not sure how to run it from terminal.

Just got back from holiday and want to create something special on DVD.
I used to use Nero with all its add-ons which gave me a nice menu and slideshow DVD for everyone to watch. But that was back in my windows days.
Now I am wondering what can offer is that way? I would like it to have the menus, slideshow, movies etc etc compatibility.

I was asked to make a slideshow of a series of JPEGs; I found the programme "imagination" that is available as an .rpm and I installed it with YaST;it worked well and I produced a couple of straightforward .vob files that could be started from a DVD player connected to a TV; (the intention);I would need to restart YaST to check; but I guess imagination is on packman It has a GU interface and worked well for me.
