Need a Linux solution for looped slideshow from pictures in some folder. Pictures may be deleted and added, so it's a bonus if it doesn't stop/crash if currently shown picture is deleted.

I have digikam, fspot and gthumb image viewer. I am now not sure if I lost the program that I had been using in an update or if I am just looking in the wrong place.

How would i go about copying all .jpg or .JPG files from a folder and all its subfolders to my /usr/name/pictures folder? I'm guessing I'd have to use some sort of .[jJ][pP][gG] to get all the pictures from other examples i've seen, but really not sure how to use that in a recursive cp.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two Ubuntu 10.4 machines (and Ubuntu continues to hide more and more xorg.conf config such that I no longer know where to find it). One is a laptop running dual headed - DP1 is the internal screen, and VGA1 is an external monitor; both are running at 1600x900. The other machine is a desktop running both VGA1 and HDMI1 (which is actually a display port with a DVI adapter) at 1600x900. So in both instances my desktop is 3200x900. I run a VNC server on the laptop and connect to it (via SSH tunnel) from the desktop - when I press the full screen hot key, I get a 1600x900 view of the remote machine on one monitor, and half of my local desktop on the other monitor - the "full screen" only expands to fill one local monitor.
Normally this is exactly what you want when you full screen a web browser, email client, or other application. I'm sure there's some X magic to make it clear what a full screen actually entails, and the vnc client application is just dutifully accepting what it's told. While I would like to keep the normal full screen behavior for regular applications, but when I'm VNCing to another 3200x900 machine, I'd really like full screen to stretch across both local displays. Resizing the window to be "close" isn't quite good enough since I still have local panels at the top and bottom of one display (though I can set them to autohide), plus the VNC client application window border (since it doesn't appear to respect -notitle).
Is there any good way to have X lie to a single application about the "full screen" size? Can I get it to lie to all applications? xrandr --noprimary appears to have no effect.
I'm running a fullscreen display app which shows a 3D scene in OpenGL. The app runs continiously throughout the day unattended.
Here's the sequence of events in how it's loaded:
1) The computer is turned on, and boots into F11 (x86_64)
2) A non-privileged user is automatically logged on
3) The gnome startup applications list contains an entry for a loading script
4) The loading script waits for the network interface (eth0) to ccome up, then starts the display program
This all works just fine, except that about 30 minutes after the computer is turned on and the app starts running, the screen blanks out. Attaching a mouse to the system and moving it around a bit brings the screen back to life. Likewise, SSHing into the machine and killing / restarting the application works as well. Once either of these fixes has been performed, it runs flawlessly for the rest of the day.
I have turned off the screen saver, and set the power settings for monitor shutdown to 'never'.
I've imported my pictures into Shotwell, but not all of them are showing up. For instance, I have an event (White Water Rafting) where 25 of the 48 pictures got imported correctly. The rest of them were placed in this 2008/12/28 folder and this folder is not visible in Shotwell so I cannot move them into the album.
I can manually move the pictures to their proper dates, but how do I add them to the database? One caveat, the pictures are stored in an accessible /home/SHARE/Pictures/Photo directory so my wife and I can both import into the same place and have access (while the kids have read-only access). I placed the .shotwell directory with all of the database information in /home/SHARE/Pictures/.Shotwell and linked our local .shotwell directory in our home folders to this shared location version.
I am wondering if there is a way to:Force the inclusion of these pictures that are not showing up? Force the database to re-create the thumbnails/scan for particular dates or should I remove (rename) the database, move the files to where they should be and re-import the entire structure (minus the "copy to ... " option)
when I installed it through the terminal I got Emesene 2.0.Since I had empathy set up with Yahoo and GTalk, I decided to add MSN to the list and it says it can do video.Anyway, one thing I noticed is kinda bugging me. On Yahoo I have a friend who is showing his display picture, and there was one person on MSN with a display picture but the rest of my list show without display pictures, and I know for a fact they have one.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using Ubuntu 10.10. I want to copy all the pictures from various folders in my Documents to a single folder. So in Nautilus, I clicked on Places > Search for Files. Then chose the Documents folder and typed *.jpg in the search criteria. It found all of my pictures just fine. However it would not let me copy and paste them into a folder I put on my desktop. Copy is not on the "right" click menu and Ctrl C did not work for the highlighted search results. This is so simple in Windows but it does not seem to work in Ubuntu.

If I'm watching a flash video in fullscreen (via firefox) and hit "esc" to leave full screen, about 20-40% of the time it will screw up the monitor's display of everything. The entire screen gets weird white and colored pixels randomply all over the screen (see the attached picture). Restarting is the only thing that fixes this. I tried logging out and back in but the issue remains. I have two questions:
1. How do I fix this without a restart?
2. What could be causing this?

I am working on a gym class display screen which was built by others. It is operated under Ubuntu. Everytime I click on Firefox, the page goes to fullscreen, but the problem is that the gym class display is not zoomed to full screen (which is what we need). there are black blank parts on both the right and the bottom of the screen.There is no shortcut key working under firefox either, which means I can't zoom the screen or even enter url for any websites.I checked the gym class website on my computer, everything looks perfect. I think there must be some setting wrong on the operating machine.

Recently upgraded from Lucid 32bit to Maverick 64bit Xubuntu.Now when I run nxclient in fullscreen mode, if I minimize the window (or just log out) my local display does not return.I'm left with just the background colour. The windows are still there but not visible. For example I can:* randomly right-click and a menu pertaining to the invisible window appears;* press alt-tab and cycle through the windows but activating one does not display it (it remains invisible);* press ALT-F and bring up the current active (but invisible) application file menu;Basically I press ALT-F and ALT-TAB and close everything and then log out and log back in to restore the windows/panels.

However, in SLES11, "mount" now displays the loop device rather than the filename:

This is somewhat less than useful. Is there any way to display the filename rather than the loop device?

Running Ubuntu 10.10 along side Windows7 on a 64-bit HP Pavilion dv7 Laptop. Everything works in Windows. Everything works in Ubuntu, except for 2 things.1) I can live with not being able to enable/disable wifi.) I cannot read photos from an SD card plugged into the laptops SD card reader. When I open the SD card in Ubuntu, I can see the file name, but the thumbnails show messed up pictures. Usually, the bottom half of the photo is solid green, and there are usually lines running through the photo, or it is divided into quadrants with one quadrant being ok, but the rest having the green and/or lines.I assume the driver for the card reader is not correct. Card reader works fine in Windows. So I have to reboot into windows, copy pictures from reader to a folder, then reboot into Ubuntu and I can see and open the photos just fine. Just cannot read and copy them from the card while in Ubuntu.

I take this to mean I have 500MB of memory but most of it is used up on something? Does this explain why opening new windows incurs a lag of a few seconds and my GIMP slideshow runs very slowly? I was a pretty good Windows user but know very little about Linux.
In the KDE 3.5 desktop wallpaper settings, I would like to use a slideshow. But the pictures I want are on another partition on my HD, and KDE says "You can only select local files." That sounds stupid to me, because as far as I'm concerned, those files are local; is it that hard to access the other partition? Is there any way I can get around this besides moving the files to my home folder (I don't want to)?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a WebDAV server at home with at folder that I want to mount on my Ubuntu computer at work over the Internet. Everything works fine if I just use dav://user@server:port in Nautilus so I tried adding it to fstab (using davfs2) and managed to get it to mount fine.
The problem is that when mounted using fstab Nautilus thinks that it is a lokal folder and downloads images and movies to create thumbnails/previews, something that it doesn't do when just using dav://. This uses a lot of bandwith everytime I'm trying to access a folder with any media. I'm wondering if there is any way to exclude my entire /media/nas folder from showing thumbnails?
After many years using linux, I decided to buy a mac. Now my main problem is: how do I synchronize pictures within my linux machines and the mac?
I have been using digikam in linux, and I like it because I can just browse the pictures directly from my directories (and it is easy for me to keep directories synchronized within mac and linux).
I have been testing iphoto and aperture, which are quite nice but if use them, my understanding is that I have to import all the pictures into these softwares, and this doesn't seem to be the ideal solution for me. I tried picasa, but I don't find it as good as iphoto and aperture. On the other hand it allows me to browse directories, without having two copies of the same pictures.
I used GnomeBaker to burn photos from my digital camera onto a CD. I have a ThinkPad R51e with Ubuntu 8.04 installed as the only operating system. I do think that I will be able to use GnomeBaker to put photos on the CDs but I was wondering if there wasn't something that would be better.

When I log into my myspace account, and I choose to upload photos and I click browse, it links me to my desktop but when I open up my photo album, all I get is an empty box. View 3 Replies View RelatedI was messing around with fed 12 yesterday (only on a test installation) and i've hit a snag. I installed openbox and tint2, nitrogen, obconf etc so i could have a #!-style session at startup. It all worked fine until i installed pcmanfm and removed nautilus. The problem is that i can't display files in my home directory, either using pcmanfm, a reinstalled nautilus, or in terminals. Every time i try to point a file brower there it just seems to get stuck searching forever, until i kill it. Weirdly in terminator i can do an 'ls' to see visible files, but 'ls -la' causes the problem again.
ps i thought permissions might have something to do with it, so i did a 'chmod -R 777' as root. it changed permissions for quite a lot of the files but then froze again, and now the problem persists.
