View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to switch to Ubuntu 9.10 but the computer always freezes 30 to 45 seconds after entering the graphical mode. This includes the 64bit installer, the 64bit live CD version and I even installed the 32bit version with the alternate install CD (text-mode). In all 3, I can use the system (e.g. log in, click Next) just fine for half a minute, then it crashes. It even crashes if I don't do anything.
Here are my hardware specs:
MB: Biostar TF560 A2+
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5000+
RAM: DDR2 800 Dual 128 bit, 2T (4GB)
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 3870
The sound and network cards are integrated but I've tried disabling them from BIOS as well as removing all hard drives and the problem persists. I have also verified the CD successfully. Note that right now I'm using SLAX from a CD as I formatted my hard drive (so at least some Linux works).
I was using win-7. I tried to install RHEL 6 today. [dual boot]/ = 40000 MB and /boot = 1000 MBThe installation completed successfully.The problem is that it is not showing the graphical mode. Only the terminal mode is available. I tried chvt 1-7but I am unable to go to the graphical mode. It is not appearing.What should I do? View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been using Redhat/Fedora for 11 years. I don't understand why Fedora 11, can't even do a vga graphical install, when Windows can.
I tried many parameters, including xdriver=vesa, and it cannot used graphical install.
So, I tried text install, which I have done many times in the past.
However, F11 seems crippled, in that it will NOT do the same install achievable from a graphical install.
It will NOT allow the use of fdisk, and it will NOT allow any selection of any packages.
What is the point of this option?
Even after trying all of this, for a dual boot install, and F11 claims to have installed, there is no grub or equivalent, and the computer just boots windows, just like Fedora 11 did absolutely nothing.
What are the options now? Why is text install so crippled and incomplete? Why is standard VGA mode so hard?
Can you give me a step by step screenshot procedure in installing Fedora Version 8 64bit?

I'm very new to Fedora, though I had Ubuntu installed recently but removed it because Fedora seemed a little more interesting to me. I'm on an HP Pavilion dv2807nr laptop if that helps.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI tried installing Fedora 11 on my i386 using the 6 CD set that I downloaded. Since my system has only 128M of RAM, the text install mode was used. The 1st CD installation seemed to work OK. After 181 out of 181 packages were installed, the system rebooted and did not ask for me to insert the other CDs. now when my system comes up, it is always in text mode.
Q. Is there a command I can use to have the remaining CD's installed so I can install the graphics system?
I made a clean installation of F15 on my laptop, is a Qosmio x505, it has an nvidia M360, so I download the nvidia drivers and intall it separatly.To install the nvidia drivers I change the runlevel with the commandln -sf /lib/systemd/system/multi-user.target /etc/systemd/system/default.targetAnd then, change it again to the graphical mode with the commandln -sf /lib/systemd/system/graphical.target /etc/systemd/system/default.targetEverything seems ok, but the system only boot in text mode. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have downloaded ubuntu 10.10 64bit and have also burned it to good disk at 4x speed. when i boot it from cd everything goes simple and fine till it comes to a mixed orange colour screen and then nothing goes further, it just halts there with this full blank screen. so i have to do a hard shutdown. then i tried wubi.it went good. after rebooting it asks for installation options. there are five of them. in the normal mode the same thing gets repeated again. but in safe graphics mode ubuntu gets installed but few errors are shown after installation. there is no graphical screen and only this text screen comes again and again.

So I use text mode.I would like to have a very small installation with very few installed packages, so at package selection I uncheck everything. In text mode installation there is no option to customize installed packages down to package names. I can only check main themes.So I uncheck everything and installation starts. This method results over 400 packages to bo installed... Ubuntu starts with some screen but then it converts to text mode and just sit there. I have checked md5sum of the iso file I got , before burning it on the CD. After burning the image, I also checked the directory structure on the iso file and the CD. They are fine. Currently I am writing this from XP. How do I use Ubuntu Live CD.
For burning, I used infrarecorder with 'Burn Image' option. I had installed debian and win xp with the same CD , so I can't see the problem with the CD. Anyway, I tried doing this with different CD and the same problem appears.

And I don't get the ubuntu boot screen at all. Some screen with ubuntu symbol appears and then text mode with some information about the hardware and it hangs there.
I'm some what new to ubuntu and i would really like to start using it as my main operating system and get rid of windows. The first problem i face here is that I am unable to install Ubuntu using the normal gui mode.As soon as i select the option to install ubuntu the files starts loading and then the screen goes blank.. but the monitor is still live. So i installed ubuntu using the text based installer.. everything went fine, i installed the system and at boot loader i selected my Os but still the old demon comes in "Blank screen". I've tried all the related forums and tried all the options best to my knowledge, but its still the same.. I am not even able to get a command prompt/terminal. I know that this is a problem with my ATI (i can hear the sighs!!!!!) video card. Now I know that Ubuntu is being loaded cause i can hear the welcome sound of Ubuntu(drums sound).
