I'm using 9.10. Most of my contacts on line use MSN for voice calls. Is there any messenger that supports voice for Ubuntu? aMsn and Empathy does not work. aMsn says that it's due to a protocol change in Live Messenger. Lately I've found out that voice through msn live messenger is real good in clarity and it hardly breaks up. Any way to connect with Live messenger for voice chat.

I'm looking for a MSN/WLM client which supports the protocol used for Video Chat in the 2011 version. I have tried aMSN a couple of months back but it doesn't seem to work with the new protocol, has this issue been fixed? Or is there an alternate program to use?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm currently running Ubuntu 10.10 and wish to do a clean installation since it has become very cluttered with programs (I had the ooh, that looks like a cool free program I can download and then never use it again syndrome for a while). Since I've been doing some sound stuff with my computer, I decided to try Ubuntu Studio. Anyway, I am at college and do not have any cds available to be able to burn the image on. Is there a way to install Ubuntu onto my current partition (yes, I want to back everything up and erase what is on this partition) without burning the .iso to a disk. I have a Ubuntu 10.04 live disk and a Windows 7 partition on my hard drive. Is this possible with what I have and can anyone give me instructions or link me to something showing how? (I googled for a bit, but must have been missing the magic keywords if it's out there.)
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been using Ubuntu 10.10 for a few weeks now (have been using Ubuntu/Linux on and off for quite a while). I had to work around some things for a while to get it correctly partitioned with Windows 7 and what not which led to me formatting and reinstalling a few times to get it just right. Along the way, I was able to upgrade my Empathy messenger from 2.32.1 to 2.32.2. I loved the upgrade as it has the notification icon for me installed which is much nicer than the colored envelope when someone sends me a message. I have tried to upgrade to it recently and it is not allowing me to do so. Can anyone help me upgrade back to 2.32.2 from 2.32.1?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two hard drives in my laptop, they are NOT raid configured. I installed 32-bit Ubuntu on the second HD, third partition: Sdb3. I then installed 64-bit Windows 7 on the same hard drive, first partition: Sdb1 (Sdb2 is formatted NTFSd willusedasstorage).Windows installed fine. Then I installed Windows in 32-bit on the first hard drive, first partion: Sda1. Sda2 will again be used as storage. When I boot up, Windows boot manager gives me the option of the two windows OS's to install (but not Ubuntu of course).I wanted to boot into the Live CD, where I would reinstall grub, assuming it would recognize my two Windows, and I could boot into any of the three OS's upon start-up.The Ubuntu Live CD, will act as though it is going to boot, bringing me up to the loading screen, then it cuts out to "busy box" and I am not sure what to do. Buys box is almost like a command prompt, but I don't understand the commands.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to use GParted Live CD to shrink my Windows XP partition and allocate this space to /home.
On GParted I shrank my /dev/sda1 (Windows) from 36GB to 26 GB. Then I had 10 GB of unallocated space. I didn't know how I could use this unallocated space to increase the size of /dev/sda7 (/home). How do you do this?
I've put openSUSE several times in USB flash drives. I've used the old method with dd ... and the new one with dd_rescue ..., shown in SDB:Live USB stick - openSUSE This way a partition is created (sdb1 or sdc1 or ...), with the Linux file system (ID: 83). One of the problems of this system is that all the data of the pendrive is deleted. Another problem is that sometimes openSUSE doesn't load completely and I cannot use it. And another of the problems is that even if I create another partition (for example to make the Live USB persistent and "remember" the configuration of my computer) and I put some of my photos, songs, films there when I plug the pendrive in a computer running Windows XP I cannot access the data. (What about Vista and 7?)
Other Linux distros can be put in pendrives using the FAT file system (for example W95 FAT32 (LBA), ID: c). This way my personal data or files (photos, documents, ...) can be opened from a computer running Windows XP (and the personal data is not erased when putting the Linux in the pendrive). So I would like to know how to create a Live USB drive with personal files that are avaiable for many Operating Systems, including Windows XP. Perhaps the solution is to put openSUSE in a FAT file system, or put it in Linux file system but create another partition with FAT file system (for this openSUSE should avoid the 1st partition, sdX1, that should be for the personal data, so Windows XP can access it).
I'm new to Debian, but have used Ubuntu so I'm relatively familiar with APT. Ubuntu doesn't have backports, though, and I can't figure this out. I've checked the documentation for the answer, and I'm hoping that I'm just overlooking something simple.
I'm running lenny, and I want to install the Empathy instant messenger that's in lenny-backports (v. 2.26.2-1). I already have the stable package installed, and here's what happens when I try to upgrade:
michael@archimedes:~$ sudo apt-get -t lenny-backports install empathy
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
empathy is already the newest version.

How can I change or erase windows XP password from Ubuntu Live (11.04) booted on the PC in question? I reckon it should be possible, at least it is possible to do so to another Ubuntu installation, but I never knew how to do it to XP.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI want to set up my USB memory stick(s) (4gb) so that I have a partition (3gb?) for personal data storage and another hidden (1gb?) for booting/installing Ubuntu live from the 'stick' on friends' and colleagues' computers.I have a number of queries:
1) If I flag the boot partition 'hidden' in Gparted, it does what I want in Ubuntu but not in Windows; in Windows you can see the hidden partition, 'Wubi', and not the storage one. Does it simply depend on the physical position of the partitions on the memory stick?
2) I am using Unetbootin and Gparted (both GUIs). Should I prepare the live boot partition before or after partitioning the memory stick?
3) How much memory should I allow for the live boot partition?
4) Is there anyone who has asked similar questions or tried to achieve the same results before? Please let me know if I'm doing it all wrong.
I have a friend of mines computer that is hosed and gets the BSOD. He has pictures of his grandson on there that her really needs before I fix it. I would like to be able to use Yahoo Messenger in Fedora 13. Has anyone been able to do this.
BTW. Fedora 13 is the best OS yet. I only needs a couple more programs to really rock.
1: A DVD Player
2: A MP3 Player
I would use it as my main OS if I could watch DVDs and play MP3s
