Ubuntu :: 9.10 - Voice Chat With Windows Live Messenger
Mar 20, 2010
I'm using 9.10. Most of my contacts on line use MSN for voice calls. Is there any messenger that supports voice for Ubuntu? aMsn and Empathy does not work. aMsn says that it's due to a protocol change in Live Messenger. Lately I've found out that voice through msn live messenger is real good in clarity and it hardly breaks up. Any way to connect with Live messenger for voice chat.
I'm after a replacement program for when I make the jump from Windows on my main machine. I'm looking for a MSN/WLM client which supports the protocol used for Video Chat in the 2011 version. I have tried aMSN a couple of months back but it doesn't seem to work with the new protocol, has this issue been fixed? Or is there an alternate program to use?
I just installed ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop. Everything works well, but I have problem with sound. Output is OK as I can hear any sound from the computer; but there is no input sound from the mic. I am unable to record any voice or talk in voice chat.
for those who want to install Windows Live Messenger, using wine
[Code]...
and select "Add application" then go to ".wine/drive_c/Program Files/Windows Live/Messenger" and select "msnmsgr.exe" then set the windows version for "msnmsgr.exe" to win2000 then click OK. run as NON root:
Code: wineboot or else,, go to kde-menu > search for wine, and select Live Messenger Version 8.5.1302.1018 has been installed
I've been looking for a messenger with voice call... but I'm still not able to find one :/ I tried: emesene, aMSN, pidgin, Empathy and some others, but I can't find the option I need.
I am trying to get Skype set up for voice chat. I tested my laptop's built-in mic by messaging echo123...
The test where I called the bot worked fine. However, when I had the bot call me, the playback was silent. What could be the cause of this? I have searched extensively and cannot find a solution.
I am brand new to Linux (Ubuntu 10.10 is what I use), and always used Yahoo Messenger back when I had Windows. Why are there no programs that allow for Voice calls to individual users? (not chat rooms, as I greatly despise them, but calls from one user to another) I was told Gyachi has that, but everything I tried does not work. Pidgin doesn't allow for voice chatting either, and the only version of Yahoo messenger that is available for Unix is extremely old and outdated.
I'm using finch as my main chat client but I have some issues, While on Lubuntu 10.10 I get the message "segmentation fault" when I try to engage /call, I also tried starting voice chat In pidgin and pidgin also crashes. this does not occur under Ubuntu 10.10.I have the voice/video plugin installed for pidgin and from what I have been able to derive from the documentation both finch and pidgin uses the same lib.and pls no referring to use other programs, I want to fix this specific Issue with finch.
I have Ubuntu 9.10 trying to get yahoo voice chat to work. Thing I have tried is Gyache now everything works but I cant talk. I can hear but not talk. When I hit the talk button the program goes grey. I have wine installed with Yahelite but when I open up YahVox I get the box open and no one is in there. Ycabby does not work for so I download the three cabs and extracted the files and copped the files to the system32 folder. I tried to the mighty google but I get a whole lot of nothingness.
I have installed empathy, pidgin, telepathy and gstreamer plugins. How can I enable voice chat?I have already Skype runing, but I would like to set up at least one Linux client, and use google talk (gmail account) and even MSN, if it would be allowed.
Currently I'm using Arch Linux. I'm more used to Linux now, but for communication, I still have some problems:
My main software which I use on Windows is Skype and TeamViewer to share screen / voice chat to do pair programming with my friends. imo.im is too simple and it doesn't help much with only chat.

camorama application giving error "could not connect to video device (dev/video0) check connections".I am using Ubuntu 10.1 and intel webcam CS110. Also the webcam is not working on facebook/meebo live chat applications.
Ladies and Gents, I am new on this forum. I have installed Ubuntu on my box and have been using it for over 2 weeks now. I have been trying to setup G-mail chat or Facebook chat and it just keeps on saying "connecting - Disconnecting" without anything happening.
i have a lan network in my school that doesnt allow conection to the Internet. looking for a chat program that would let me (ubuntu10.10) contact other windows users on the network, i found that Pidgin and Bonjour do the trick.
however i could not find a way to chat with several people at a time (eg. create a chat-room). is this a fault of bonjour? is there a different program that can do this?
Does anyone know of a commercial program that will run on openSUSE?I need something that is fairly user friendly, identifies individual voices, and does not require Wine. The machine is to be completely controlled by voice and would be programmed to issue vocals in response to vocal requests for what is in the various databases and I/O software, such as motion control and other sensor subsystems. In other words, a program that lends itself to AI robotics.I do not have the time to develop CMSphinx, and I am willing to pay. I have been on a few sites but they are cryptic as far as the technicals, which I do not fully understand anyway.
I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 on my PC and I would like to video chat with my parents, which are using Windows. I have read all the solutions given to problems similar to mine, but none of them work. I have tried Skype, Ekiga, Pidgin plugins, Gmail chat... none of them allow me to share the video.
