I'm looking for a MSN/WLM client which supports the protocol used for Video Chat in the 2011 version. I have tried aMSN a couple of months back but it doesn't seem to work with the new protocol, has this issue been fixed? Or is there an alternate program to use?

I'd like to know if I could update my installation via another pc if I backup my sfs and 2fs files and load it from another pc. I wonder if Puppy includes driver files specific for the pc upon creation of the sfs and 2fs files.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi've been using Linux for a couple of years it's always been Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Mint environments which i can just about find my way arround in.Because i wanted to try something new and was unhappy with the last development in Ubuntu i've looked arround and decided to try my luck with a KDE based distro, Pardus came accross well in the reviews.So, i'm now in Pardus but can't find my "trusted newsreader (binaries/nzb's)" PAN in the repo's.To be honest i can't find an awefull lot in the repo's, i have tried adding a couple of German based repositories but dissapointingly still no Pan.
Google, normally a mine of information has let me down aswell, so now i'm asking the Linux community for a little shared wisdom.If anyone could shed a little light for me, i'd be really gratefull - especially if you'd be kind enough point out how to install Pan if it can be found.Pretty shamefull when you realise just how little you really know when stepping out of the comfort zone.
I have Ubuntu Karmic 64-bit dual boot with Windows 7. On Windows 7 i have microsoft security essentials for antivirus/antispyware. Recently I noticed GRUB boot failures after having booted to windows but couldn't see why. Just to be clear, I am using GRUB2. Anyway, the failure is as follows:
PC is powered on, goes on towards displaying GRUB menu but it only shows GRUB Loading and restarts, so the list doesn't show.and the restart keeps happening.Now the workaround so far is to boot using a live cd and fix GRUB according to the instructions posted here:
https:[url]....And after fixing GRUB2, i either have to boot into the desktop or recovery mode, to update GRUB2 menu once again using

Now coming to what i think is the cause of the problem. Everytime MSE (microsoft security essentials) is updated be it standalone, or over internet, including failed updates, the boot failure happens.I've googled microsoft and ubuntu forums but couldn't find a fix.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just booted to Puppy (for the first time in my life) on a 6 y/o amd type with a 40Gb HD, Ram: 512.I would like to make a permanent install of puppy onto the HD, I have read various pieces on how to install, defraging, repartitioning, differing file systems. However, i am a bit lost. The computer will be used for e-mail, web browsing, and watching the odd film (films installed on the drive) - I am unsure as to the best combination of file types and partition in order to keep puppy happy and keep some compatibility with the world outside of linux.
For instance, could i have a small partition with the puppy install and setting, and the rest on a format that would be compatible with windows/mac/linux? Booted puppy 4.12 off usb many many times have i booted puppy and other distros this has never happened I get to part where you choose xorg or xvesa I chose xvesa, as usual my monitor makes a "click" noise as if its been turned off but it doesn't turn off default puppy xvesa is 800x600 so i changed it to 1024x768 as usual after messing around I reboot into my ubuntu-9.04 install and my desktop is 800x600! I reboot into my SalixOS install and my desktop is 800x600! every system I boot into is this way! even live cd's! the PC is a Emachines with everything Nvidia mx4000 geforce and old 15inch vga monitor how do I output graphics card and monitor info?

View 1 Replies View RelatedBackground: I'm a 20+ year Mac user, switched four years ago to Linux.I have NO experience with Windows to speak of. Whenever I've gotten a new box, it's either been home-built or a Mac.Now I have a new Acer Aspire AS7551 laptop, and although I have not yet booted into Windows, it comes with a Windows 7 Home Premium license. I've been running it with Ubuntu 10.04 off a flash drive and everything works perfectly.
What I want to do: I want to wipe the disk, install Lucid, and run Windows in Virtualbox (for the sole purpose of watching some Netflix and learning a little bit about Windows 7). For the purpose of this question, please accept that I DO NOT want to dual boot.The problem: From what I can find, I can't use the "recovery discs" that came with my laptop to create a virtual machine. This is confusing, because it seems like I paid for a legitimate Windows license for use with this laptop.
Questions:
1. Would MS exchange my recovery discs for a regular install disc to go with my license code if I explained this to them?
2. If not, is there a source for Windows ISOs that I can safely use with my license? (I am aware that the legitimacy of that approach is questionable, but I am quite comfortable with the ethics since I paid for Windows 7, own the license, and only want to use it on the same computer.
3.If not,is there any way in heck I can use my recovery disc to create something Virtualbox can work with?
4. If not, how are all of you people getting your Windows virtual machines going??
(I have read that Acer is a major hassle to get a refund from for the "Windows tax" so I might as well be able to use it--this is MS' chance to win over a fan if only they will let me!)
I am new to Linux and I am trying to install puppy on an old IBM thinkpad 600X (10gb hd, 196mb ram) When installing puppy from a cd, it loads up and does the kernel stuff before "Searching for Puppy files in computer disk drives" - this takes about 10 minutes before saying "pup_421.sfs not found. Dropping out to initial ramdisk console" then it goes to "/bin/sh can't access tty; jon control turned off". then it stays like that and doesn't continue.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am certainly a Linux Newbie..I have a business with a network of PCs that need not get client files corrupted by viruses & other bad things from the internet...YET I would like to let my employees(who are way worse newbies than me..om Windows even...& stand good chance to mess up computers) use internet at times if they wish. My first thought was just separate side by side PCs, one to get on for Clients/business network etc, & the other to get trashed by the internet.
What I am thinking is a better alternative (& I need to know from yall who I'm sure are way beyond this newbie whether this thinking is correct) is to put something like Puppy Linux 5.0 on small memory USB flash drives & let them each have one to use for internet, simple application functions etc. Can I safely believe that running internet browsing on the flash drive with Puppy Linux booted & running as the OS is NOT going to potentially infect my windows XP business PCs with viruses etc?
I've updated everything and if I could just get some audio it would make my birthday a ton better
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to install Ubuntu Lucid Lynx using Live CD on this machine, a compaq Presario SR5010NX, with Celeron D 3.46Ghz CPU. Bios Version American Megatrends, Inc. 5.18, 2007; 2 gigs of RAM with approx. 140 gigs of hard disk space total useable. Has Realtek High Definition audio, graphic chipset Intel 82945G family; Soft data fax modem with smart CP (internal modem). It is connected to my DSL modem/router, Netgear DGN2000, with ethernet cable (as are my other two computers).
I start the installation. Finally the desktop shows up. As soon as I start trying to navigate, my mouse freezes and that's as far as I can go.
Just out of curiosity, I also tried to use my Mint 8 CD. It did the same thing. Gets the desktop up, then freezes. I am so frustrated because I really want Ubuntu on this machine. I planned on wiping out Vista Home Basic and giving the whole thing to Ubuntu.
I need to build openSuSE with the bare essentials + X. I want no-fluff + KDE 3.5-Desktop (no extras).
Is there a way to do this manually ? Any other options ? Widdling away at RPMs just got me a broken VM so I'll skip trying that again.
I have ubuntu lucid as the primary os on our main computer here at home. Due to some compatibility issues (wife), I need to install Windows xp instead of lucid as the primary os on this computer. I do plan to put ubuntu back on it as dual boot, beings that I don't particularly care for windows for what I use this computer for.I'm usually fairly competent when it comes to installing operating systems and whatnot, but for some reason this computer will not boot from my xp boot cd, irregardless of whether or not I select boot from cd.. It just boots straight to ubuntu.
