Iwould like to install Proxy(Apache) server on linux.is it possible?
I would like to trace the user activities by proxy server. we are running many applications on that.How to trace that.is there any server better than Apcache?
I've taken a project to work upon tracing of runtime activities on unix system into a log file. Like, to implement a program which will show the log of everything happened in past, including many requirements, like applications i used (with the time of access), kind of files/directories i opened, closed, created, deleted(with the time), etc.

From one of the previous postings on this site it was stated that TraceEnable should be used for newer version of Apache (1.3.34+ or 2.0.22+). However, when I tried to use the man pages to get some information on how to use the command I got "No manual entry for TraceEnable". Can you tell me what version(s) of Apache supports this command?

One is Apache (port 80) from repository where I planning to configure proxy and second one is Apache integrated(port 8090) with KnowledgeTree software. The problem is that when I am trying to configure proxy reverse it simply doesn't work.

I have two servers, one running Postfix and SquirrelMail, and another i want to setup a wiki(already setup) and Photo Gallery.On my Second server(2)I have two virutal webservers, wiki.rmasonfamily.info and photo.rmasonfamily.info, both running on port 80.My first computer is running my mail server again as a virtual server, mail.rmasonfamily.info. Default server is not used in either one.
Server 1 will be my proxy server, and if I understand correctly, my reverse proxy. Ubuntu had Apache set with a configuration in etc/apache2 using sites-available with configuration for each Virtual Server with sites-enabled with links to configuration files in sites-available. My Virtual Server in Server 2 are working fine, along with my mail server in Server 1. this is the code I assume I must use to bypass to wiki.rmasonfamily.info. In server 1, under sites-available, in the file wiki.rmasonfamily.info this is the code I put

Here my setup of Apache :
I have two virtual hosts on separate IP and on both I am using port :80 one is main website domain.name and another webmail.domain.name. And to get full link path I am using index.html with redirection derectives. My question how I can setup each Vhost to he is own redirection directive to set two full link like:
when type webmail.domainname -----> redirect to webmail.domainname/horde/imp/file.php
and www.domainname ------> redirect to www.domainname/csr/
Right now working only one of this Vhosts, just problem to separate them when I type www.domainname -----> apache redirect to webmail.domainname.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to set up Apache and Webmin so that I can access Webmin by going to [URL]. I am using the direction at [URL] under the "Webmin In A Sub-Directory Via A Proxy" section. I had this setup working before, but I think an update of either Webmin or Apache broke it. Now, I can go the the webpage and I see the login screen. However, when I try to log in, I get an error.

A Linux (CentOS5.3) server is setup with apache reverse proxy. The reverse proxy server is opened to outside and an internal server is mapped to ProxyPass configuration. SSL certificate is also installed on the Apache reverse proxy server. The problem is, it is extremely slow in serving http requests through reverse proxy. There is no problem with server resources or bandwidth. When the internal server is directly accessed through Internet, there is no delay. The backend server and the reverse proxy server are also on the same switch (same subnet). When I searched the Net, there were recommendations to enable cache in Apache. I did so as follows in httpd.conf.

just a quick question. I was wondering if it is possible to do the following: suppose there is a www and it contains 3 pages: aboutus.php, index.php and contactus.php within each side there are 3 other pages you could say 1*.php,2*.php,3*.php, where * stands for any of {aboutus,index,contactus}. I was wondering how, if it is possible, to implement the following mechanism.
If users requires 2a.php go to aboutus/2aboutus.php or if it is 1i.php then go to index/1index.php. What this does it translates addresses that user requires into the original links that are stored at the server. Then, if I want to change the translation I just change the naming convention say 22a.php or 11i.php and updates my mapping mechanism. Is it possible to implement it with mod_proxy_http ? so that you could dynamically (at once, without restarting apache and without any delays) change this mapping to whatever you want ? maybe there is another module I should look at ? Or shall I implement it myself?
I have a question regarding the possibility of streaming video using an Apache web server configured as a reverse proxy. Suppose I have a local web server and areverse proxy that is abroad. I want users that are nearer the reverse proxy to be served by it and not my local web server. I know in general how to configure this and there is a lot of documentation. But can it be configured to support video file streaming without saving all the media content in the reverse proxy disk?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI migrated joomla to my new server and noticed that the script doesn't have the permission to edit it's own configuration file and write to the cache folder. All my files are owned by root, which I guess isn't a good idea.
As what user do the PHP scripts run? Or is this system specific? I don't want to chmod all files to 777 so I'd just like to change file and folder ownerships to the user that is executing that script.

I've got an old SuSE box that is a SVN server using apache for ldap authentication. The suers are not able to log on for some reason so I am trying to find out where this box is pointed to authenticate. I do not know SuSE or ldap well enough to know where to look to find out this info.

I tried to add apache user in the sudoers with a nopasswd but it's still a no go.
I'm trying to get Apache to run in a user's home directory. I changed the conf file so that Apache runs under the user and group "kiosk" and changed the DocumentRoot and Directory from the default to "/home/kiosk". Then I set Apache to start at boot (chkconfig --level 235 httpd on) and rebooted. When I checked, httpd is running as kiosk like it should (ps aux | grep httpd). However, when I try wget localhost, I get a 403 response back. If as root I call "httpd -k stop" and then "httpd -k start", then everything works exactly as it should (curiously, if I try using "-k restart", it still doesn't work). After this, httpd still shows as running as kiosk and if I check before calling start, it shows no httpd processes running as expected.
This only happens when I use httpd to stop and then start the web server. If I try to restart using apachectl I still get a 403 error. As an interesting aside, after I've used httpd, if I try using "apachectl restart" I get a "(13)Permission denied: Error retrieving pid file run/httpd.pid" error. This is all on a freshly installed CentOS 5.5 server. Why I'm seeing this very different behaviour from what I thought were just equivalent ways of starting Apache? And then what I could do to get it to start up and run properly on boot? One last item to mention is this isn't a permissions problem. I set the permissions to 777 to both the home and kiosk directories (and 666 to the web files) just to be sure that's not the problem.
I want my apache user (www-data) to be able to umount drives that are mounted with fuse. (i think it is the same as regular umount, but i'm not sure)

I will be relocating to a permanent residence sometime in the next year or two. I've recently begun thinking about the best way to implement a home-based network. It occurred to me that the most elegant solution might be the use of VM technology to eliminate as much hardware and wiring as possible.My thinking is this: Install a multi-core system and configure it to run several VMs, one each for a firewall, a caching proxy server, a mail server, a web server. Additionally, I would like to run 2-4 VMs as remote (RDP)workstations, using diskless workstations to boot the VMs over powerline ethernet.The latest powerline technology (available later this year) will allow multiple devices on a residential circuit operating at near gigabit speed, just like legacy wired networks.
In theory, the above would allow me to consolidate everything but the disklessworkstations on a single server and eliminate all wired (and wireless) connections except the broadband connection to the Internet and the cabling to the nearest power outlets. It appears technically possible, but I'm not sure about the various virtual connections among VMs. In theory, each VM should be able to communicate with the other as if it was on the same network via the server data bus, but what about setting up firewall zones? Any internal I/O bandwidth bottlenecks? Any other potential "gotchas", caveats, issues? (Other than the obvious requirement of having enough CPU and RAM).Any thoughts or observations welcome, especially if they are from real world experience in a VM environment. BTW--in case you're wondering why I'm posting here, it's because I run Debian on all my workstations/servers (running VirtualBox as a VM for Windows XP on one workstation).
I recently started using SVN with Apache for my web development, although I find it really annoying that I have to issue two SVN commands (one local, one remote) to update my web site. I have been looking into SVN post-commit hooks to solve this problem. The only problem is that apache does not have permission to modify files in my user directory... So here is how everything is setup. I am running Slackware 13 full install. There have been no installations overriding any of the default installs.

I have managed to setup the web page under /home/user1/public_html, now I wish to change the default web page of our server to /home/user1/public_html. i tried to modify httpd.conf, in which i changed the "/var/www/" to the above user directory, but didnot work. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a nagios server monitoring around a 1000 hosts in our office. To make things easier, i've integrated apache into Active Directory for the website authentication. This works perfectly, however the Nagios website uses alot of CGI scripts to display information I get the message below when trying to show CGI scripts with an AD user. Local users work fine. 403 Forbidden You don't have permission to access /nagios/cgi-bin/status.cgi on this server. I tried adding the AD users to the cgi.conf file within Nagios (which works for local accounts) but it doesn't seem to work even with this change.
