I've taken a project to work upon tracing of runtime activities on unix system into a log file. Like, to implement a program which will show the log of everything happened in past, including many requirements, like applications i used (with the time of access), kind of files/directories i opened, closed, created, deleted(with the time), etc.
OS :red hat 4.2 oracle EBS SUITE Applications:11.5.10
Iwould like to install Proxy(Apache) server on linux.is it possible?
I would like to trace the user activities by proxy server. we are running many applications on that. How to trace that.is there any server better than Apcache?
I am trying to install the Matlab 7.5 compiled runtime for 64-bit Linux (MCRInstaller.75.glnxa64.bin) and keep getting a "No Java Runtime Environment(JRE) was found on this system." error message.
I understand the JRE is bundled with MCRInstaller and will self-compile/install. However, I don't have admin access, could this be the source of the problem? If so, how could I fix it (not sure how to direct it to install locally without going into the source code)?
I got around this error before, but stupid me didn't write down what I did and I forgot.
1) sar -d gives: Requested activities not available I need to enable it, but can't find out how to do it. Can you please help? I am on Red Hat 5.6 sar -u works though as configured by systat in /etc/cron.d
2) Also, I have another system Red Hat 4 where it's working but I searched through all /etc/*cron* and couldn't find anyplace where it's enabled even though sar -d works
After installing Fedora 14 and being satisfied with the behaviour and the packages installed for it, i want to replicate the same installation in a few more PCs, so i installed Revisor to make with it an iso file that reflects my actual installation.
The problem is that if i run the software from Applications->System tools->Revisor, nothing happens after giving the user password.
Then i run it from a consele and this error is produced after giving my password: "Cannot find anaconda-runtime in /usr/lib/anaconda-runtime"
But anaconda is the environment used for installation, so it is installed from the very begining. Why this happens?
When I log into Mint8 ,for example, the bottom bar (task bar) shows activity I did not start eg, keyboard amongst others. System logs are suspicious:
an 9 22:23:24 patti-desktop dhclient: DHCPACK of 192.168.0.100 from 192.168.0.1 Jan 9 22:23:24 patti-desktop dhclient: bound to 192.168.0.100 -- renewal in 40777 seconds. Jan 9 22:23:24 patti-desktop NetworkManager: <info> DHCP: device eth0 state changed preinit -> bound

'patti-desktop' is not the user I'm trying to login to but its was and still exist a group (ops). Also having difficulty using sudo but that might be my error. Is there a program I can use see what is going wrong correct it.
I am trying to turn Trace off on Apache/2.0.52. From one of the previous postings on this site it was stated that TraceEnable should be used for newer version of Apache (1.3.34+ or 2.0.22+). However, when I tried to use the man pages to get some information on how to use the command I got "No manual entry for TraceEnable". Can you tell me what version(s) of Apache supports this command?
I'm having issues with the Linux rpath functionality. It seems the rpath provides the ability for a library to embed the location of other dependent libries within the shared object file.
I'm trying to disable this functionality. At my company we install libraries on NFS mounts, so they can be available on any machine. The problem I have is that my application runs on a few hundred machines. When my application is running, the NFS server can be overloaded with thousands of processes picking up library files. To get around this, I have installed the libraries locally, but I'm still picking up the shared object from NFS.
From my research, it seem the protocol for Linux is to first check the LD_LIBRARY_PATH, then check the rpath if it cannot find the library. However, on my system, it seems to do the opposite, and is only going to LD_LIBRARY_PATH if rpath fails.
Is there anyway to disable the rpath completely, and only use LD_LIBRARY_PATH? Keep in mind, I'm looking for a runtime solution. It's not feasible for me to re-link all the libraries with disable rpath flag.
I would like to set run time library path in my makefile, so that my exe should search run time libraries in that path when executed. How to set this in makefile?
I am trying to send a mail using sendmail, status says sent and quied for delivory but I am unable to find the message where it gone to or where it is.

I am using the package Quantum espresso to get electron phonon coefficients for monolayer graphene. While applying one of the executables, I got the error: "At line 356 of file q2r.f90 (Unit 51 "a2Fq2r.51") Traceback not availabel: compile with -ftrace=frame or -ftrace=full. I recently installed 4.7 on my laptop. I really like it. Part of what I like is the activity manager wich I did not see in 4.6. However, I do not seem to be able to delete any activities there.
I tried to run % mvdir earlier and it said command not found. I then ran a search for it and still not found. Is there a place I can download the script for the command, and is there any information I should know post-download to get it to work?
I wonder if the unix commands (cp, mv, grep, args etc) are the same for Mac and Ubuntu. Do they have the same parameter lists and so on or do they try to stay the same but are slightly different?
What Linux or Unix version underlies Mac OS, OS X 10.6? Is there a good documentation for that version, specifically regarding security, networks and similar topics?
I want to code some simple personal projects on the Unix-like partition while doing everything else on my XP partition. Can someone recommend the solution that takes up the smallest footprint in size and processing power that still delivers value? I want to learn how to code in a Unix environment.
I'm trying Cygwin but my first impression is its a bit clumsy. Would a dual boot with BeOS be better? And how would I do it? EDIT: I need to be able to run both OS'es at the same time. This is very important for me. my laptop is pretty crappy and that's why I ask for something that has a low CPU/RAM footprint.
I have an NCR UNIX hard disk I need to mount it on a Linux box The FS Type in fdisk on linux is '63' for the partition How can i mount on my linux box ? what is kernel module i needed ?
I have Solaris at my workplace. Currently Esm was configured. It's listing conflicting configurations against policy standards. Few of them are like usrid's/guid's of users are below 100 so I am planning to change it above 100. For eg. I have ops id for an operations team.If I change uid and group id of this particular user/group, do I have to just find files of that particular users/groups ownership and change it accordingly.Or else something elese I have to do. Will it affect any running applications owned by user/group whose ID I am going to change. Also there are few ids owned by applications whose secondary gid is 0, how do I proceed with those, as its very risky to change in prod environment.
i am now running Slitaz 2.0 and i would like to know how to run windows applications on my system. My OS didnt come with this wine ive been hearing about so i dont know what do do.
