General :: Get Itunes Going In Unbuntu 11.04 - Gtkpod - Kept Crashing When Trying To Update Database

Been trying to get itunes going in unbuntu 11.04. Tried gtkpod and it kept crashing when trying to update database. Looked into itunes thru wine. I think I could load it in wine but all my mp3's are on a linux box - ext4. From what I understand, wine will look to a windows partition for the mp3's. I know windows cannot read ext4. All I need itunes for is to load and delete songs on a shuffle ipod. Don't need itunes store, etc so I don't care if that part works or not. Before I go to the trouble of itunes on wine: Is this assumption correct?

This may come across as a bit of an isolated and complex problem, but I haven't been able to get my iPod Nano 5th Generation to have any sort of compatibility with any iPod management programs (except with using Nautilus I guess). This includes gtkpod, Banshee and Rhythmbox.With Rythmbox, my iPod shows up in the pane, but I cannot interact in anyway except ejecting it. There aren't any msgbox errors.Banshee cannot read the iTunes database or something and insists that I rebuild the database on the ipod so I can use it with banshee. I did and gained full access to Banshee's iPod management with all the features it carries. I moved my music library on to the ipod but the thing states that I have zero songs whilst banshee states otherwise.
iTunes on my Windows PC will show that I have x number of GB of "other" information after using Banshee to move music. It seems that it is transferring data sufficiently but is not recognising it as "audio" gtkpod wont let me manage the iPod before or after Banshee's tampering.

I've been having issues with yum for a while now. It won't install anything or update without crashing. When I tried to do 'yum update' after doing 'yum clean all' I got the following error:

It updates the first two "momonga" and "momonga/primary_db", but then it crashes with the error.
I am not sure if I should uninstall/reinstall yum, or fix the repo files individually. I don't even know where to start really since I'm so new at using Linux. I'm using Momonga(fedora core) Linux. I've been able to install programs through the GUI add/remove programs, but not yum. I really want to install Wine, but it doesn't show up in the GUI, so I need to install it manually via yum I guess.

i have installed unbuntu 9.10 and i have even successfully installed ns2 2.33 in it , but i am not able to excute it as it is showing me this error bash: 2.33/tcl8.4.18-3/unix:/home/sangamesh/ns-allinone-2.33/tk8.4.18/unix: No such file or directory as in this version of ubuntu we have tk8.4.19 only but it needs tk8.4.18 , even the tcl8.4.19 also same problem.

I'm trying to get some insight on how to move forward. I have a bit of a problem. I am just starting out in unbuntu and I have no experience working with 2 os on my computer (coming from windows). I have a lot of files (music, pictures, movies) in windows, but I want to use them on unbuntu. Is there a way for me to have both os access those files, or better yet, is there a way to send all my files to unbuntu, so I can start deleting all my stuff in windows?At the moment, I'm planning to burn all my files to dvds (in windows), then just drop them off in unbuntu, but I'd love it if there was a way which didn't involve me burning tons of dvds...Oh yea, and programs too... can I transfer them, or do I need to just reinstall them on unbuntu (like stepmania, guildwars, dvd shrink, kmplayer, etc

I've had this unbuntu for over a year, and have never been able to get ANY of the drives to work. ie; the DVD-r, CD-r, or USB. I've installed all the 'restricted' extras it said it needed. if I open places,then computer, their icons show. but, as soon as I put in a disk or USB device--- their icon disappears, then nothing?? everything did work fine when I had WinXP installed. I've just been using unbuntu for the internet and I'm happy its working great. but, I really wish I could use all the other neat stuff. I really miss using my drives, and having fun with all the other stuff unbuntu offers.

I have installed Ubuntu 9.10 Server on a machine primarily as a LAMP & File server. I also have installed Webmin with this.
The problem is oviously I need a browser to do this. I am having issues trying to install firefox 3.5 and the open correctly from terminal to access Webmin. I am very new to this especially commands wise to open Firefox. Idont know if I need to change directories to open it. A few guides I looked at said type in ~firefox/firefox. Which didn't work.
Also I saw something about profile which I haven't setup yet. Would I need to do this?

at first with a single boot system(ubuntu) everything were fine with everything include second monitor ,then i installed vista too,now i have a dual boot system & i am very happy to get rid of crappy junk microsoft's software as much as i can,unbuntu performance is really wonderful to me,just i have one problem,my second monitor show very weird colors ,almost like a negative print,then i boot with vista & there everything are fine with my second monitor,then i guess i don't have any hardware or driver problem,any help or suggestion?I changed my visual setting from extra to non,in case if this problem is because of not enough memory or els,but iy didn't work. my loptop is a vaio vgn,4 gb ram,intel centrino 2- 2.66 ghz-ati radeon graphic card.

I'm looking for the best iTunes alternative that has almost these features:
- being able to edit the track's name/album (songs in the iPod)
- adjusting volume of tracks
I'm currently using Rhythmbox. I have tried Exaile and Amarok just doesn't work for me. I can't recall what made me turn away from Banshee, too. I'm not really into Wine so installing iTunes itself is not viable.

I just got a new iphone (yay me) but later realised that as I have Ubuntu, it is very difficult to get itunes installed on it.
Having said that, I've got Wine installed and attempted to download itunes 7.something and even though the whole process worked, it appears that when I try to access itunes the whole screen goes black and then if I scroll across the screen with my mouse it lights up various bits of what's behind the black screen and then after a while it tells me that it cannot access itunes at all...
So I thought, perhaps I should uninstall itunes, but in doing that it still appeared in my wine folder, so I uninstalled wine, which still appeared in my Applications list, so I edited my applications list and then tried to re-install wine from scratch (I know I sound dumb already - but I was desperate ok!!!). So now wine is installed on my computer somewhere but it now doesn't show up in my Applications list at all and I can't seem to get it back on there - any suggestions there would also help...
But my main objective is to try and uninstall itunes properly (maybe from the terminal window - but I don't know how to even do that) and attempt to re-install it to see if it works again.
I need to do this in order to sync my iphone. Cannot seem to do it with Amarok as I don't have Installer.Apps on my iphone, and cannot get THAT without syncing it with itunes to begin with....

Ubuntu 10.04 recognizes my iPod Touch because when I connect it an icon pops up on the desktop and I can also play the files from rhythmbox. I installed gtkpod and tried to access the iPod but it doesn't see it.

am using zabbix open source solution for systems monitoring. I am facing a problem and discussed it on zabbix forum. my post was as "My zabbix server is behaving abnormally, approximately daily from 9 to 12, the server stop accumulating logs. I observed that the server report is RUNNING but it did not accumulate log values and also the machine have no extra load. I've been trying to get my ipod to work under floola,gtkpod or rythmbox.I'm currently running Crunchbang.Is there any other way I can add songs to my iPod?Do I need to reformat my iPod?Since I'm completely new to Linux.I'll read whatever needs to be read and will take suggestions of any kind regarding learning Unix and whatever else is out there.

i had just installed an update which had alot to do with firefox via Ubuntu update manager. Every time I browse the web and i want to go forward a page or back Firefox freezes every time. Ive tried restarting my comp with no luck.Has anyone had this yet and is there a way round it other that reinstalling.

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10. It's the only OS I have on my laptop. I hadn't updated it for over two months, and one day I started the update. I downloaded about 300 MB of updates and then started installing. While it was doing its job applying all the updates it had downloaded I had some 2 or 3 PDF files open, Amarok and a folder. Suddenly the computer crashed; mouse was dead, so was the keyboard. The computer stopped completely; I wasn't able to reboot it even with "sys rq + R + E + I + S + U + B", to give an idea. I had to kill the power to shut the PC down. But then, when I tried to turn it back on, it started booting up and then the following text showed up (shown in-between quotes):

All I need is the log-on screen back on; a great deal of valuable information in the computer.

But doing so, ubuntu software center does not launch and update manager gives the following error: An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.
report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:
'E:Type 'n' is not known on line 3 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/gwibber-daily-ppa-maverick.list'

Can't seem to update without the Profiles wizard crashing.Will try again later this week to update the packages.I want to package most of the svn as I can.I would update the packages as much as I have time for. This wouldn't be for creating a distro from as it would have bugs.Also I'll be moving in a few months so there will be a month or more without updates.

After a recent update a week back or so, the nautilus is crashing very often.I have noticed it mostly happens while closing a nautilus window or maybe sometimes while trying rename a folder, etc.The kernel log says:Feb 11 12:25:58 PC kernel: [113047.344460] nautilus[31254]: segfault at 506 ip 00cba0d0 sp bfb895e0 4 in libgobject-.0.so.0.2600.0[c91000+40000]The nautilus is restarted after the crash. I have partitiond my hard drive on one side I run Kubuntu (and when I finish downloading; Ubuntu) on the other windows 7. However I dont know how to co run (and set-up) so I can swap between KDE GNOME and how to make Back track (I have on live C.D.) run with bash or KDE. Cuting this way to long story short, i am hoping one of you amazing peeps can tell me how to run backtrack, kunbuntu and Ubuntu on the same side of the hard drive??!!

I ran an update last night just before I went to bed and shutdown my laptop.This morning, I turned on the computer and clicked on a link in an email. Firefox started but crashed almost immediatly. The same happened with Epiphany and Chrome. The only working browser I had left, was Opera.I started Firefox from the terminal, and saw this:

I'm having problems with my coding. Here is the problem: I have a database with a list of products. I can list all the products OK At the side of each product I have an EDIT and DELETE button. The delete button works fine and deletes the item. The EDIT button displays a form with all the details from the database. I can then edit this form and click on UPDATE. This is the code that I have to update the database:

I always install the Ubuntu Updates that automatically pop up every few days.
Today I installed the update and it wiped out my entire Evolution database.
The Evolution e-mails and e-mail history are still there, but not a single Contact.
Is there any way to 'uninstall' today's update or go back to a time before it was implemented?
Is anyone else having this problem? I do have a database backup, but its about a month old. So I don't want to import it unless there is no way to get the current version back.

IIRC, database users have nothing to do with Linux system users - but I just need to clarify that.So can an app launched to run as user 'foo', connect to a database as user 'foobar'?
