General :: Everything Is Going Great \ Mail.log Is Empty?

OS: DebianMail Server : PostFixAV: ClamAVI have a newly created SMTP mail server and so far, everything is going great. Over 300 mails are being sent a day and no major issue has come up since then.However, the thing is that every morning I'm rotating my logs so that mail.log becomes mail.log.0 and so on.Its working fine but this morning, mail.log after having been empty and rotated, is empty and nothing is being logged anymore in it.The strange thing is that mail.info is but not mail.log. Mail server is still working well, syslog shows nothing strange, mail.err either, everything is working smoothly as its always been since I started everything, but my mail.log is being kept empty
I cannot get exim4 to actually deliver any "local delivery only; not on a network".But whatever I do in the config, all mail gets frozen with entries in the log file like:"root@empty R=nonlocal: Mailing to remote domains not supported"Maybe the problem is that there is no fqdn for the computer (and will never be). How can I enable local mail delivery?
I haven't logged on to Fedora for a few days, but I did this morning and opened claws mail and clicked 'get mail' and it proceeded to download new messages. However, when I clicked on the inbox folder, the email count changed to zero! No email. I checked and found the folderlist.xml has the correct Mail folder location, and when I went to that location, (on a shared data partition) indeed the 'inbox' folder was EMPTY. No files at all. I'd had a similar issue once, but the email #MH location wasn't correct, so when I fixed it, the email appeared. I did a web search and a search of the claws bugzilla.
The closest I came was a message about the cache not keeping accurate information. There was a claws-mail update at the end of May, but it had been working fine since then up until now. And, it's possible it's some sort of Fedora issue (?), because I had opened my 'home' folder on my desktop to check the claws folder, and now I see that there's a gaping hole on my desktop where that folder should be. I can get there by clicking 'places' and 'Home Folder'. Any other reports of disappearing folders and email?
I've been switched to a new department at work and am totally clueless when it comes to scripting in bash. When I told them I was a fast learner, I didn't think they'd throw me into the deep end of the pool so fast. So to make a long story short. What is a great book to start learning scripting in bash? My supervisor already gave me a simple task to do. Conceptually it sounds quite easy in my head, but actually writing out a script is a bit more daunting and complexed than I first thought.

I have got a nagios server running on my network, The configuration seems to be okay but each time there is a service alert notification, and an e-mail is sent to the contact group, Nagios continuously sends e-mail over and over again. Do anyone know of a way to set Nagios directives to only send one e-mail per alert without it flooding mail boxes.
I had configured sendmail on linux 5.2, Iam using public ip and my domain is registered[linuxforfreshers.info]. I am facing a issue that when I mail with the user sumit@linuxforfreshers.info then I am able to do it. But if somebody tries to send mail to the same user then it bounce backs. I had made the entry of domain in /etc/mail/local-host-name and also I put ok in /etc/mail/access.The mails are working properly with in LAN. But not able to work on WAN only I can send mail but not able to recieve mail.What else I need to do.
How can I split my local mail box into an individual files for each mail. The senario of mine is I fetch some emails from a mail server into my local linux box with fetchmail command but I want each fetched mail in a different indivitual file for easy file processing and manipulation for example sending those email through sms and so on

I have configured fetchmail, sendmail/postfix and mutt to act as a relay to receive mail. I can receive mail fine but I cannot send mail. Its working fine on my one box but on the one acting as a nat I am having issues. This is my mail log from the nat box.
my cpu usage goes way up. Top doesn't show anything using the cpu to any great extent. I did a "ps -ax" and statred doing process kills. I kiilled a dbus pre-fork first, which brought, which stopped the cpu hogging. This is the process line:
I am not a programmer or a game developer. I would even use the term "computer geek" very loosely cause any problems I have I google and usually find the solution here. That being said I am not sure the proper location for this discussion and I am not an expert on the subject but I ran across an article by a game developer who ported to Linux and commented as to why more developers don't. Before all sorts of flaming responses get written i would like to say that Linux (A) does need more games (B) developers obviously have a reason for not porting (C) If you ever want that to happen we need to turn reasons against into reasons for.
I know I am not a programmer and don't know a whole lot about Linux but I read programmer's talking about problems with too many distro's and too many different window systems etc., a lot. would it be possible to create a front-end that would act like a router for games, like the game puts out audio and the front end sends it to alsa it puts out video and the front end sends it to the nvidia driver. something where how it talks to gnome or kde or any other window manager and any other distro is different but how it talks to the game is always the same. If the answer to what I have said is no how could this problem be solved how could a developer create software that could be installed no problems on various platforms without them creating 100's of different versions of the game. One package one installer no mess. Linux is so incredibly stable there must be a way for it to be easier to write a game for Linux then for windows.
Cheese seems to work great OOB on my HP probook 4510s using the internal webcam and OpenSuSE11.1 (11.2/11.3.6 don't install). Anyway - I would really like to have a simple way to send either the video stream or periodic snapshots out over the internet, either to a website or a chat client or? I am going to be doing a field experiment and will want folks to be able to see what I'm doing. I have set up servers before and it can get way too complicated for the amount of time I have left to get this going..
i'm running ubuntu 8.04 with firefox 3.6.6 and the add-on shockwave flash 9.0 r277. my video works great at sites like videos, abcnews.com, and cbsnews.com. but it does not work at msnbc.com. i just get a blank, black panel with the label "msnbc.com video player" at the top.
the problem appears unique to the msnbc.com web site. any idea what it could be? i've used other machines running different versions of ubuntu and ff and have had no problems viewing msnbc.com video.
I was doing some testing on my CR-48 notebook, which seemed to be very slow wirelessly when running Ubuntu 11.04. I cracked it open and decided to swap out the wireless cards with an Intel Wifi Link 1000 card I had in my other laptop, which is a Dell Latitude. I then began to do some speed testing, using speedtest.net. I tested each laptop 5 times for each card, so I did 20 tests total.

The results I think speak for themselves. While the Atheros card no doubt *works*, it doesn't work as efficiently as the Intel card I tried. I also noticed if I shut off my wireless security, my speeds drastically improved on the Atheros card. On my router (WRT54G) I used both mixed mode, G-only mode, WPA, WPA2 and a mixture of TKIP, AES, and TKIP+AES encryption. My results were the same across the board unless I took off security.

Ok, so eth0 is up and working great. eth1, however, comes up with a link light, however the packet counters in ifconfig remain at 0. Appears that eth1 isn't working.
Here's my setup:
-Dell latitude CPi laptop with 2 PCMCIA network cards and no built-in ethernet. -Slackware v11 -eth0 is connected inside my router on my 192 network. Static address with good connectivity -eth1 is connected on the other side of my router in promiscuous mode in order to listen to the traffic coming into my network.
Troubleshooting so far: I have switched the pcmcia cards between slots and regardless of which card is in eth0 or eth1, eth0 works and eth1 does not. I have also switched the card dongle between cards as well as the ethernet cabling between the cards. With any of the combinations eth0 works like a champ but eth1 does not, so I think I've ruled out hardware problems.
The problem I have is when I install 10.10 I get no wired connection my wifi works great, just no wired connection. I don't have WiFi where I am right now. It works fine when I run off the dvd , but when I install it i get nothing. I have tried static ip, reinstalling, reinstalling drivers. Don't know what else to do. I have a Dell Inspiron 1720. The ethernet is a broadcom 440x.
No Bootup just a Black Screen with a frozen cursor after install, but LIVE CD works in 1024x768 mode? Well, I have a Sony Bravia 32xTV with HDMI input coming out of a ZOTAC nvidia type of card. The live CD will recognize the HDMI graphics card and Sony TV/monitor and thus works like Ubuntu normally does. But when I go to install to a hard drive and try to boot up I get just a Black Screen with a frozen cursor. I even have another Ubuntu 8.04 version running on the Sony Bravia TV , so no problem with TV end of things. what do I do now, oh great Ubuntu gurus out there in cyberland? what could I possibly do , what do I read, where do I go , what, where, who, how, when ,which way?

I have been using a ARM device with 512MB ram and flash to send messages via Bluetooth to everyone in the proximity. I am doing this with OpenProximity (Python) and it worked for the last week, it did stop for two times but since I didn't have time to find the cause, I just rebooted it (Windows style ) and it worked again, but suddenly it stopped working again last Saturday. When I did /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart it did not say it failed or something, but when I did /etc/init.d/bluetooth status it said "bluetooth is not running ... failed!". This is what I got in the syslog:

You'll probably note that the first message is version 4.60 and the second one 4.63, this is because I tried to upgrade, but that did not work completely, but the error above is the same as first before the upgrade.
Don't know if it matters, but I am using Debian Squeeze and the output of uname -a is: Linux debian 2.6.32.2 #1 PREEMPT Fri Dec 18 22:54:28 MST 2009 armv5tel GNU/Linux. Hope someone know how this could happen suddenly, and even better, knows how to fix it
EDIT: Forgot to say, I am using a SENA Parani UD100 Bluetooth USB Adapter which uses the Toshiba Bluetooth stack.
UPDATE: It won't crash until the Bluetooth stick is inserted, so it should be a driver problem?
I have two servers relavant here: mail.domain.com (1.1.1.1) - which is the nameserver and the mail server for domain.com. www.domain.com (2.2.2.2) - which is the www subdomain for domain.com domain.com (cname www.domain.com) - an alias for www.
The zone file for domain.com lists mail.domain.com as the MX server for domain.com. 2.2.2.2 is actually being served web pages as a virtual host. It's real hostname is www.anotherdomain.com. Mail for domain.com works pretty well, in general. However, if I attempt to send mail from www.domain.com (or its alias domain.com), I get "mail for domain.com loops back to myself" in the postfix logs. On 2.2.2.2 /etc/postfix/mail.cf has mydestination = www.anotherdomain.com, localhost. How do I tell postfix on 2.2.2.2 that mail for domain.com needs to be delivered to mail.domain.com?
Using Lucid Lynx 10.04. Is your software center/ synaptic package manager working properly for you?
I just got Lucid installed after some minor troubles last night, but with the help of great people, I have it installed now (thank you!) and it all *ok, most* works beautifully!
However, I have been downloading/installing "Ubuntu restricted extras" , for the last 20 minutes now, and it is only at 12% .
In karmic koala, these things happened pretty quickly, but now it is just soooper slooooowww.
Before I started the restricted extras.. I installed VLC player, and that took about 15 minutes just for that. and now it is nowhere to be found!
It does not show in USC under installed software, nor does it show in synaptic..and it is in no menu, anywhere.
Speaking of synaptic...I cant get VLC, or Ubuntu restricted extras to show up, it does not 'find' them when I type their name into the search bar..it acts as if they don't exist.
I havent attempted to find, or install anything else that I had on my karmic box yet...only these 2 things, vlc and restricted extras....and both have been ..well.....painfully slow..... and vlc doesnt even seem to have installed, after it took 15-20 minutes, and said it was finished.
If this was "back to normal"...this would definitely be the best OS i have ever seen/used.
I have a Gateway ML6721 laptop that uses a Realtek RTL8187B for wireless comms. I am very new to Ubuntu and Linux. I am trying out linux using a usb stick, 16Gb with a 4Gb persistence. If I stay in the same room as the router there is no problem. If I walk too far, I get disconnected. Works fine in windows throughout the whole house. Is there a setting I can change or do I need to use a different driver?
I looked through google but can't find an answer for this..... say I have a directory called "files"; this directory contains several other directories..... what I wanna do is delete ALL the files within the subdirectories, but NOT delete the subdirectory. Can this be done easily without having to run a command for each subdirectory?
