General :: Debian E-mail Client Download E-mail Messages
Aug 7, 2011
I need help in setting up the native e-mail client included in Debian Squeeze. My ultimate goal is to have the Debian e-mail client download e-mail messages and process attachments automatically.
I have set up postfix and dovecot as per the Ubuntu anual and appear to have a functioning mail server.Using the sendmail command I can send mail and I receive mail in ~/Maildir. Using Thunderbird I can read any mails received but I can't send any mail from Thunderbird. I have tried with both STARTTLS and SSL/TLS and whilst I get the prompt for a password I keep getting the message my password for my server is wrong.I have ports 25, 465, 587 and 993. Is that all the right ports? When I ping my domain name it resolves to my router name whereas I believe it should resolve to my IP. Could there be a problem with my host file? I've had a play but to no avail. Here's the error in mail.log.
i have redhat linux 5 (2.6.18-53.el5) and i am trying to install davmail as mail client for MS exchange mail system. i am trying to install davmail latest i.e 3.6.6-1032 x86 version. i installed java 1.6. and excuted java -version. it showed me correct version. i.e java 1.6. but when i ran ./davmail.sh it gave me following message it opened port 389 and the next message was DEBUG (checkrelease) davmail: unable to get released version what could be the problem
I am running Fedora 10, Postfix and Dovecot I recently changed the password of a user using the 'passwd' command. The problem is that the user can no longer receive their email messages in Thunderbird (Authentication Error). However, they can still login using SquirrelMail and get their mail.
Ubuntu 10.04. I want to change the startup sound and the mail alert sound (incoming mail) for Evolution Mail Client. I go to System > Preferences > Sound, and all I get are themes preset. I do not have option to browse to wav files. I also do not see a browse option in Email Settings. Do I have to change an actual file?
How do I make a local mail server that itself is a client to a WAN mail server.I want the local mail server to query new mail every 30 minutes from the WAN server.
On my Seagate DockStar torrent box running Debian Squeeze, I want to send email when a torrent download is done. What email client is good if I want to send e-mail via gmail server?
Whenever Debian is installed, a mail client is also installed. I don't have the faintest idea what is happening below the surface, but if something happens with the system, like a failed cronjob, a mail is sent to my account on that computer. I can't recall it exactly, but I think during Debian installation I had to specify where system mail has to go to. In my case I am installing as jlinkels, so all mail directed to root goes to jlinkels. I am not sure if that redirection is still asked, on older versions I know it was, but I can't remember I had to tell that while installing newer versions. Anyway, on all boxes, automatically a folder /home/jlinkels/Maildir is created and within that the subfolders new cur and tmp. Whenever I log in in such a box mail is checked, and when I run mail I get a listing and can read the mail.
However, now I am running a server for which it is extremely important that I get the mail if there is something exceptional, and this mail does not function. That is, I don't have the ~/Maildir/new ~/Maildir/cur etc, but for some reason I do have ~/new, ~/cur etc. Now when something happens, root receives a mail. This mail is placed in ~/new. But when I run mail I see that there is no new mail for me. Still there is new and unread mail in ~/new. Installed Debian Lenny on this box and did nothing unusual. I have installed tens of Lenny boxes and run thru the installation procedure almost with my eyes closed so I am pretty sure I did not do anything out of the ordinary on this box. Still the mail is screwed up.
A few observations: - the system (programs like cron) know they should send mail to root. This happens. I see in the header the mail is sent to root. - the mail system (whatever that is) knows that mail to root should be sent to jlinkels - the mail system even knows where to find the mailboxes of jlinkels - the mail client does not know where to find new mail for jlinkels I have seen that exim4 is running on the box. Is exim4 responsible for forwarding and dropping the mail in ~/new? How this mail is produced, how it is dropped in my mailbox, and how the mail client can find this.
I cannot get exim4 to actually deliver any "local delivery only; not on a network".But whatever I do in the config, all mail gets frozen with entries in the log file like:"root@empty R=nonlocal: Mailing to remote domains not supported"Maybe the problem is that there is no fqdn for the computer (and will never be). How can I enable local mail delivery?
The question is pretty much the same as the subject. I have a bunch of debian servers - most of them running exim4 default installations configured as internet site using dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config. It can send mails fine from php scripts and some other applications, but I can't seem to find a way to forward all root mail to some external address. I have tried adding "root: someaddress@example.com" to /etc/aliases and run newaliases command, but it doesn't seem to work.
i basically had this system installed for our mail system. The setup is as follows:
1. Operating system installed is Debian ver. 5.0.3
2. Roundcube is installed as a webmail(if its right for me to say that)
3. The server is hosted right here at our offices
4.The server uses relay system to send mail i.e. relays all our mails to our ISP
That all i can say about the configurations becuase thats as much as i understand it.The problem now is that we are not able to send or recieve emails from both internal and external.I tried to send mail to a collegue in the office who is on our local LAN,Roundcube says sent successfully but the person does not recieve the mail.i tried to send to my yahoo address but nothing.I dont know where these mails have been trapped.
I've installed Postfix and have the server running. On installation, it asked me which domain the service will be for. I entered "test.com". The service will be used for multiple domains. Can Postfix service multiple domains? If so, how can it be done? How does one create a user account? I have read the user account is a UNIX user account. My UNIX user name is "n", so would that mean my e-mail would be "n@test.com"?Is it true mail will be stored in /var/mail by default?I read on Wikipedia that Postfix does not support IMAP, so how does one access mail remotely, or even locally?
I have a post on [URL].. with "how to configure mutt mail client for mail server other that gmail" subject and it has no good result and at the end the person who answered me said it may be a mutt bug that I had to report it ,but I thing mutt is old enough to not to has this such a big bug. My problem is when I configure mutt with gmail it works fine but when I configure it with mine it returne segmentation fault error.and don not want to use other mail client in place of mutt. why mutt mail client get such this error with my configuration?
I am able to reieve message but not able to send message on evolution from my mail client. evolution gives the error as: PHP Code: Cannot get message 1285571362.20345.mail312.opentransfer.com,S=1928: Input/output error
Kernel 2.6.21.5, Slackware 12.0Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0.4I have just typed, using a GUI mail client (or the graphical front end of a mail client) the text of a letter and am about to send it. Before I do so, I'd like to see how the letter will look to the recipient. But I can't find anything similar to a 'Preview' button. The client I use is Thunderbird. What do users of mail clients (graphical) do in a similar situation? I mean "to preview", when writing. Form among all mail clients, many must share the same features.
I have got a nagios server running on my network, The configuration seems to be okay but each time there is a service alert notification, and an e-mail is sent to the contact group, Nagios continuously sends e-mail over and over again. Do anyone know of a way to set Nagios directives to only send one e-mail per alert without it flooding mail boxes.
I had configured sendmail on linux 5.2, Iam using public ip and my domain is registered[linuxforfreshers.info]. I am facing a issue that when I mail with the user sumit@linuxforfreshers.info then I am able to do it. But if somebody tries to send mail to the same user then it bounce backs. I had made the entry of domain in /etc/mail/local-host-name and also I put ok in /etc/mail/access.The mails are working properly with in LAN. But not able to work on WAN only I can send mail but not able to recieve mail. What else I need to do.
How can I split my local mail box into an individual files for each mail. The senario of mine is I fetch some emails from a mail server into my local linux box with fetchmail command but I want each fetched mail in a different indivitual file for easy file processing and manipulation for example sending those email through sms and so on
I have a question about viewing HTML emails in the Evolution mail client. Basically, I am receiving some emails that look lovely in Thunderbird but not in Evolution because the HTML rendering of Evolution isn't as advanced. Here is a screenshot of the difference: how to improve the HTML rendering of Evolution? e.g. a plugin, tip, code patch, etc. The closest I've got is to right-click the email, "Save As...", save as a html file, then open in Firefox. Not exactly streamline! What emails can't it display well? We use the subversion revision control system which is set up to send an email whenever someone commits via svnnotify all nicely coloured via the --handler HTML::ColorDiff -d parameter. When Evolution fails to use the colours, I find it very hard to read the raw diff.
I'm following [URL] to build a mail server running postfix virtual. The server is now running able to send and receive mails. But remote mail client 'Evolution' can't login the server to send/receive mails. # tail /var/log/mail.log
Code: Nov 17 09:00:32 xen05 postfix/smtpd[6601]: warning: xen0.satimis.com[192.168.0.110]: SASL PLAIN authentication failed: authentication failure Nov 17 09:00:48 xen05 postfix/smtpd[6601]: warning: SASL authentication problem: unable to open Berkeley db /etc/sasldb2: No such file or directory Nov 17 09:00:48 xen05 last message repeated 3 times Nov 17 09:00:48 xen05 postfix/smtpd[6601]: warning: SASL authentication failure: Password verification failed .....
Still fail: "Login authentication" and "plain authentication" same result.
I just want to know is it possible to extract a single mail from the mail path i.e. /var/mail/root.
for ex. i am having this mail in /var/mail/root.
From root@localhost.localdomain Thu Mar 10 21:47:47 2011 Return-Path: <root@localhost.localdomain> Received: from localhost.localdomain (localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1]) by localhost.localdomain (8.13.8/8.13.8) with ESMTP id p2AGHlx4004190 for <root@localhost.localdomain>; Thu, 10 Mar 2011 21:47:47 +0530 [Code]....
I have configured fetchmail, sendmail/postfix and mutt to act as a relay to receive mail. I can receive mail fine but I cannot send mail. Its working fine on my one box but on the one acting as a nat I am having issues. This is my mail log from the nat box.
Is there an open source application that can download e-mails from a generic POP mail server, keep a copy of the mails locally and then deliver copies to multiple accounts on a LAN? I have a friend who uses a group e-mail account, and more than one person is always hooked onto that account. The problem is they cannot leave e-mail on the server, as it eats out their webhosting space, but if someone downloads a message in Outlook, the other users do not see that message.
I had a problem with my OpenSUSE with Tumbleweed repository enabled that required me to do a hard power off of my ASUS N61JV-X2 notebook PC. I had Evolution running at the time. When I did a cold boot of my laptop and I ran Evolution again, it does not display my e-mail messages anymore. In fact, I had to install Mozilla Thunderbird with the Enigmail extension so that I can read and write e-mail messages.
How do I fix Evolution so that it will retrieve and display my e-mail messages and I can write new ones using this software package?
I always use ubuntu and have lots of important files in there..What happened before?I was working on the comp...pop messages were getting downloaded on evolution mail...pidgin was running...google chrome was running..My version: 9.10Found this somewhere:https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Grub2https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu...uestion/107653https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...4?comments=allWhen i select ubuntu from dual boot screen..It dosen't do the usual thing of asking me some options second one would be recovery mode..It takes me to some Grub loader beta4 (don't remember name)I get to type something as..sh:grub> (type here)something like that.
I had been using Evolution with no issues though until I installed Ubuntu 10.04 after which I could no longer send outgoing messages. I use a hotmail live account with Evolution. I have also just installed Evolution 2.30 from 2.28 to see if that would solve the issue, but it did not.
