View 8 Replies View RelatedI recently tried to upgrade to 10.04 but during the upgrade my powerpack failed. Now 10.04 has been installed but I cannot access Synaptic through the drop down menu it says "Unable to get an exclusive lock". I've tried accessing it through Terminal which works but then the only option I have is to Partial Upgrade but then that freezes at the first stage saying the old database can't access the new (or something along those lines) then that screen just remains there. Also when I minimise any windows I have open they don't appear at the bottom of the screen I have to go to multi screen to find them.

I had a LiveUSB of CentOS 5.5, so I decided the install it.With no installer,I just copied the files to my hard drive.his was in a multi boot with Windows 7, Ubuntu 9.10, and FreeDOS.I updated GRUB2 and it detected CentOS. I loaded my entry and it failed to mount the root filesystem.I took the initrd0 file from the LiveUSB syslinux folder and added that ramdisk to the entry. Now it finds the root filesystem (/dev/sda9 as Ext3).But it fails shortly after loading /sbin/init. It talks about an init error where it says "File not found!!!".The previous lines involved umounting old filesystems, like /dev.

I just updated from 9.04 to 9.10 (it's a long story, and I still can't go beyond 2.30).The update got rid of WICD, which is what I used and installed network-manager. Network-manager was not working at all, so I uninstalled it again and installed WICD. I could connect perfectly and had no problems.However, now the computer hangs during boot, saying that init can't start network-manager. I assume that something went wrong during the uninstalling process, since it wasn't updated.
This is the message: init: Failed to spawn network-manager main process: unable to execute: No such file or directory.
So how do I update it or manually change it so it stops requesting network-manager?
My machine is dual booted with Fedora 14 and RHEL 6. (I have only installed Red Hat because I am studying for RHCE). Just now I tried to install the Banshee player on my Red Hat OS. I ran various scripts inside the directory to see what really happens and after I ran the 'Makefile.in' file my terminal froze. I've setup a CentOS apache web server, and loaded a site onto it. The site previously was functioning under windows xp (before I "stepped in") and wamp. What I did was copy the site in /var/www, reconfigure the httpd.conf (DocumentRoot /var/www/site, etc). I've used fetchmail for quite a while now and never had a problem, until (without having changed anything) today it suddenly quit working, giving me the error message:

Ubuntu 9.10 will not boot! System froze this morning, I restarted and it is now failing to boot. Starts loading grub and I get this message:

I booted with 9.04 LiveCD discovered the drive could not be mounted-ran fsck -ln and it told me the drive has no valid partition table. I have had intermittent problems mounting flash drives before this, so I'm kind of worried it might be a hardware issue.Also have files on that drive I would rather not lose, so reinstalling is hopefully a last resort.
I have been working with F13 since last summer and Kontact/Akonadi worked fine all this time. Two weeks ago, more or less, Akonadi started to crash every time I tried to start it. Therefore I can use Kmail but without geting access to my contacts, since I put them on a resource controlled by Akonadi.

during an "apt-get install" the filesystem of a virtual machine filled up and so it failed. I have now increased the file-system size but running the same "apt-get install" again results in this error: "E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem." However when I try to run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' I get this error: "dpkg: failed to write status database record about 'libxmuu1' to '/var/lob/dpkg/status': No space left on device" How can I recover from this situation?
