Mar 25, 2010When i connect windows server 2003 from ubuntu these error displayed .When i installing the tsclient, by executing these following command from a Terminal window:
sudo apt-get install tsclient
When i run these command the following error displayed.
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?

Aug 4, 2010I am looking for some advice on how best to lock down our office network to keep our employee's from wasting time on sites like facebook and ...... This will be my first time setting up a server as a gateway in a production environment so I thought I should get some suggestions on what the best packages would be to do this.
I essentially need to lock down our network so that i can monitor what everyone is doing on the Internet and block it if needed. it doesn't have to be web based or have a bunch of gui's, im fine with command line, configs and log files, but it would be nice.
I'm interested in commercial products as well as long as they are linux based.

Dec 3, 2009I have set up a 389 DS server and a kdc. However there is not a howto or any document concerning setting up the DS as a Kerberos database back-end. Nor is there a 389 DS forum, so I am asking here and hopefully some of you could possibly help or throw in some light as to this kind of setup.I have read the 389 DS features page and the Redhat documents but there is no reference to this feature.

* Checking for corrupt, not cleanly closed and upgrade needing tables.
So because of this in the roundcube configuration its giving the error message that MYSQL is not installed. So Kindly give me a idea how to solve this.

Mar 5, 2011i've set a server Fedora 11 using Vsftpd + database berkley + ssl 'certificate) he works perfectly. So i wanted to set a new one on Fedora 14, there is the problem..On my fedora 14, i tryed to use the configuration file that i've made on the F11 but withtout success. It seems that when i activate the SSL option on the server it does not want to start anymore... and i have no errors messages. I notice that when i desactivate the SSL "ssl_enable=NO" my server on F14 can start normaly.

Jul 8, 2011I recently moved into a new place and when I hooked up my webserver, I wasn't able to bring up my page, even from localhost. With some digging, it seems that I can't access the database that housed my posts (wordpress installation). I looked for the datadir in MySQL and that directory shows the wordpress directory that should be holding the database and all the files are still there. 1) why the database no longer shows up 2) how to restore the database from the files?

Aug 19, 2010I want to set up Ubuntu Server 10.04 on a computer I have lying around, set up a database for storing information, and a website for accessing it, which is only avaliable on my local network (it would just have an IP address on my local network). How would I do something like this?
I want to set it up on probably a Dell, and I want to be able to have multiple fields on the website that people see when they go to that IP address where they can enter information to be recorded in the database, and then be able to easily access it with a login, which different people would have different ones, so they can see just the information they entered..

I would like to pull data from google finance or something similar. Also, I subscribe to data from AAII, American Asso. of Individual Investors, and would like to add that data into the database. and be able to have a nice gui to run queries on. My interests are finding if there are various different arbitrage opportunities and fundamental value investments.
Very low budget. Want to run it on ubuntu. I was looking at Postgre SQL as the database, but really have no idea what is optimal. Not to sure on the gui or how to pull the data. If anyone is interested in the topic and would like to help me set up and run algorithms let me know too.

Mar 31, 2010I'm currently running a small server using 9.10 and I wondered if using groups was a possible route in order to keep users away from the bulk of the file system and keep them in locked their home directories.
What I planned to do is use a group named 'allowsystemfiles' to be added to admin accounts, then to set parts of the file system to that group, along with the permissions 0760 to keep non-admin users out.
Is is a good idea or will this hose my system?
Ubuntu Servers :: Shutdown Command Results In Lock Up
May 2, 2011When I shutdown my server it seems to lock up. I use ssh for a headless unit and I can reboot fine, but I told it to shutdown and disconnected me and stopped logging (as far as I can tell) and then nothing. The lights stayed on and I had to press the power button. Is there a way to keep the logger running or to look someplace other then messages. I'm not great with logs.

And I guess it dosen't start when the computer starts so I have to manually start it with "sudo /etc/init.d/mysql start" This returns fail so i went to '/var/run/mysqld/' and the folder was empty. Aug 15, 2010We started our project (it's a website "employee performance appraisal system") in windows by starting with some html forms and then slowlyadded php ,javascript and other stuff in windows we had no issues of insertion and retrieval of data from thedatabase.Now,we decided to shift the entire stuff to drupal the html forms along with those php files but we had 2 issues with this1. the first one was ..we created "page" for each html form and copied the html code into "page" but we didn't find where our pages are getting stored (do they get stored in mysql database that we create for drupal siter do they remain as html pages somwhere?)2.second problem was ...for admin in drupal I gave the username "root" and a password ..similarly for mysql also I gave a password.
now I used phpmyadmin and created another database called "appraisal" which is supposed to hold the data of our website.when I try to insert data into one of the tables of this database (attendance table) ,the following error occured "Attempt to connect failed access denied for user 'root'@'localhost'(using password:NO) cannot run querry insert intoattendance values('x','y')" Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (usingpassword:NO)Also I'm unable to access mysql as a normal user only super user can access and can we unset the password that's required to reach mysqlprompt?

Jun 5, 2011Does anybody know if it is possible to hide certain databases from the root user in MySQL?
It may sound stupid, since the root is the root and all that, and it may feel strange but it kind of adds a level of abstraction which I want to give the "root user", and I want to avoid going down the route of creating a new mysql instance on the server.
I had wondered if there is some kind of 'hide' parameter for a database or whether it is possible to change the root username to something else (e.g. 'realroot') and then create a new user 'root' with all the same privileges (except those on the hidden databases).

Jan 29, 2010I'm having trouble ssh tunneling through two servers to get to my database. Server3 is restricted to all except from server2 and I'm at server1. So on server2 i do ssh -L1434:server2:1435 -l user server2 - this works i'm able to connect to the db on server3 from server2. But on server3 i'm trying to ssh -L1433:server2:1434 -l user server2
- and I get 'connection refused'. I tried telnet server2 1434 from server3 and i get 'connnection refused'. I checked the firewall is open on server 2 - firestarter confirms that port 1434 is open to everyone. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I have a hunch that maybe firestarter on server2 is not working correctly, because it also shows that port 22 is open to everyone and I can telnet server2 22 and I'm able to connect.

Jul 24, 2011Is there any somewhat straightforward way of lock the drive letters to certain drives at boot?
I have searched a lot on this and the only thing that have come up is a rather long and complicated way using scripts etc.
A simple fstab example on how to make an uuid to boot at say sda1 everytime and not like now totally random even though I have the same drives in the same places with no portable devices and only a std setup with /boot, /, /home, /swap. +some storage drives.
This uuid creates a havoc on my Truecrypt favorites mounting that relies on labels.
If this is not possible how far back do I have to go get rid of uuid?
I know that 10.04 LTS was working fine at first, is it in the kernel version that it is decided?
