I started usin ubuntu 10.4 only a week ago. I use reliance MG880+ for internet connection. The problem is that the modem sometimes connects and most of the times( usually when i put the system in hibernation and switch it back on or something like that) it doesn't.

My flatmates are all able to connect. However, I am able to connect from work both wirelessly and through an ethernet cable.

I've just installed last version of Ubuntu and then connect monitor. After connecting monitor nothing happened (my laptop LCD doesn't get blinked and it doesn't try to use the monitor as a second one). So I went to Monitors configuration, where I saw "Mirror screens". I've unchecked "Same image in all monitors" and applied, also nothing happened. The monitor is still just black. Is there any application which would make this stuff easier for me? I have HP ProBook 5320m with some Intel HD graphic card inside and 21.5" LG W2240T-PN monitor.

I'm sure I will have to do a complete install of windows and all my stuff, but I wanted to get the pc working to the point where I could move files off one drive to another.
So, I started trying out various linux based rescue cd's, Avira, BitDefender, F-Secure, and all off them will not connect to the internet. I have a att two wire modem set to bridge mode and a linksys router. I'm using this set up to send this message with off my laptop wired to the router. Also, from my laptop I can view the shared folder on the infected pc. So, to me it seems that it should work.
I did have to replace the onboard lan with a pci lan card, but I did turn off the onboard lan and the (cheap) lan card shows up on slot 1 using irq 10 during post.

However, when attempting to connect from another machine on the internet, or even on the same LAN, the connection always fails. Port forwarding on the router is enabled.

My home network is has a Netcomm NB5 ADSL modem with a D-Link DI-524 wireless router (WEP encryption). While I can access the internet using the Vista partition, on the Ubuntu partition, I cannot access anything. Further investigating the problem, I have noticed that there is something wrong with the DNS on the Ubuntu partition. Pinging the IP address of a website (such as linuxquestions.org) loads up, yet, when I type in the Domain Name, there is an endless wait. I have already deleted and re-entered the contents of the resolv.conf file as well as try to change the settings but to no avail.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have the latest ubuntu and it seems to be all fine except I am trying to connect to my mshome XP network without any luck. I have installed Samba and in Network places it shows Workgroup and MSHome. Click on MSHome and I see my XP boxes.
Click on an XP box and I get.. You can stop this op etc' then I get the 'Unable to mount - Failed to retrieve share list from server' error. I have been on this for 3 days now and just about over it I'm sorry to say. The forums are thick with threads like mine without any definitive answers. I had a distro called MEPIS on before Ubuntu and with these same machines I was able to connect to the network without any problems so I am baffled why I can't now.
I'm new to slackware (and the forums) and I just installed it onto my laptop. I have previously used linux mint, and I like it but I feel that slackware might give me more experience with the terminal, and more original linux ideas. I have kde up and running as far as a window manager, and everything seems to work except connecting to the internet. I have a linksys router. I usually use wifi, but I even tried connecting through an ethernet cord and that didn't work either. I have searched many different threads, but either they didn't address my specific problem, or I couldn't understand what was going on. I tried to configure using "netconfig", but I didn't understand what many of the prompts wanted. I entered a name and a domain name, and selected DHCP, but this did nothing.

During the last few days of dying Fedora stopped being able to connect to my Linksys Wireless G router(I'm hard wired), or detect any connections. I just assumed this was the hard drives fault.
Now, I have a new WD hard drive with Fedora 14 on it and still cannot connect to the internet. I fear worst case scenario would be my ethernet port is dead but I wouldnt know how to detect that. I thought that it might be a problem of drivers also but couldnt find anything on this subject.

After configuring and reconfiguring and reinstallation, I finally got it installed the way I wanted, so I thought! Today, I decided to give Debian a try. Read many posts concerning its stability, etc. D/L and installed. No problem, First I was met with permission denied error when trying to perform a simple 'cp' command. Jumped back to the forum and searched found a solution type 'su and enter password that worked perfectly I type some things in the smb.conf file (according to other instructions) then return to my XP machine to try connecting again. I know this isn't exactly 'rocket scientist' stuff, but WTH is going on? When the login screen appears in XP, I provide the proper credentials and still can't connect!! Also, how can I grant myself permissions other than using 'su -'?
