First I go to the following URL to download the latest version of VLC Player, which I greatly prefer to Totem or any other standard Linux video/audio player: http://www.fileguru.com/Movie-Player/download. After I click on the "Download" link, a new window appears which asks me if I want to 1) Open with Archive Manager (default) or 2) Save File. There is a drop down arrow next to the first choice which only gives "Other..." as the only other choice. Well, if I choose the first option, the download appears as an .exe file in the "Downloads" window.
A window with "Download Error" in its Title Bar appears with the following message in it: "/tmp/VLC_Player_Setup-3.exe could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences." I don't even know yet how to even open up an .exe file in Linux, despite repeated research.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop running on Windows 7, I just download the iso file for Fedora 14 desktop edition, the live media download, and burned it to a new CD-RW, I can't seem to locate the file I need to boot it.

download failed The Flash plugin is NOT installed. In that archive the file adobe-flashplugin_10.0.42.34.orig.tar.gz is missing, but there is a file for 10.0.45.2. I couldn't figure out how I can install this version (does not even show up when I select all software sources including backports).

I'm at a lost right now, I tried researching to find a possible reason, but I'm coming up short. I have a dual boot laptop with both fedora core 12 and windows7. Could there be a conflict between the two drives? I have the YUM extender on my linux drive performing the updates for me. E: The package adobe-flashplugin needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it.

Every time I close this window synaptic package manager also closes. When I try to download flash player directly from the adobe web page, synaptic refuses to cooperate. I am now stuck as I can't delete this or download anything else.Computer janitor won,t delete it either.Also when I go applications>ubuntu software centre, everything I try to download comes up with Not available in this critical data.I can see this is going to be a very steep learning curve.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been able to get a live Ustream broadcast going but the video is terrible. Ustream recommends using Adobe's Flash Media Encoder (FMLE) but there is no linux version. I was browsing around and found webcamstudio that is supposed to work for this but I cant seem to figure this out. My webcam is a Logitech HD Webcam Pro 9000 and is capable of the level of quality that I want. I and the audio I have works great. I am currently running Linux Mint.

Does this meet the required 4 ports mentioned for alike cameras in the forum posting. If not, I have one of these.. Is this what they are talking about. And then put it into another computer that has a user account by the same name. View 14 Replies View RelatedI've hit a wall here; I'm attempting to find some way by which to view files and cd into directories on a device mounted read-only. So I need the permissions to read, write, execute (and the same with directories), but chmodding is out of the question because I don't want to alter the drive one iota.
I guess what I could do--what I was thinking of initially--was to dupe the whole drive and then mess with permissions. This wouldn't affect the original (actually I'm working on a duplicate of the original, but I'm treating it as if it were the original) but I was hoping for something that would maintain data integrity. This is a forensic application and not altering the data is very important.
I am using ubuntu 8.04. I played an mp3 in totem & meanwhile moved that file to another location. Still I can move slider in totem to rewind or forward the song. Only after the song has been played completely I get message 'location not found'. Does that mean totem copies song into RAM so that it does not have to trouble hard disk for access during entire duration ?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI don't know why, but all of a sudden when I plug in a Corsair flash drive with a fat32 files system, it registers on the notifier, but when I try to open it in Dolphin, Dolphin opens in the /home/documents folder. Ditto when I try it as root. Media won't open to anything, and when I click on the Corsair listing in the folders on the left side of Dolphin, I get the error message: unknown file system 'vfat'. I have used this drive for over a year with no previous problems, and can access it in 11.3 on my laptop, so I suspect that a setting or something in my system has changed.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI think my 4GB Cruzer flash drive has got a bit corrupted as it suddenly has started mounting at /_"[ instead of something along the lines of /45C1-8FE6 (can't remember the actual number). See the gparted screenshot attached.
So I thought I'd delete the partition, reformat and relabel... but gparted won't let me do it. When it tries to unmount, I get an error message:

Actually, I just figured it out whilst writing this. I used a umount command in terminal with escape characters, specifically:

That unmounted it so that I could reformat and relabel.
my media flash player is not working on my computer a bunch of files was deleted by mistake & it won't let me listen to music play videos or any games online its telling me to manually install the sudo command I did what you said & it's saying command not found how do I restore my system back to how it was.
